Nice box...but fit isnt the best, even after all the wait for the special Trax.

Though I will now turn my lid around, the turn signal will still hit during vibration, causing a possible hole in the signal.

The brackets are such that I cannot move it forward or backwards. And the forward mounting bracket to the bike hits the rack, so I cannot raise it out of the way.

My bigger concern is the box pressed up against the bolt for the racks.

I think a steel bolt will win over an aluminum plate. I will probably go out to find a smaller bolt, but not sure how much this will help, or even if the bolt will stay on. ::024::

Hey guys - thanks very much for the pics and feedback. I'm funneling all of this to DSBP for thoughts and ideas, including modified brackets to account for the larger turn signal housing. It's a bit of a balancing act but I'm confident they will identify a solution.

JonnyCinco, I can't tell exactly from the pics, but it looks like you may have the box brackets mounted behind the large washer and on the outside of the Trax mount. Moving it behind the Trax mount should give you additional lateral clearance, although you still may need a slightly shorter bolt. The pics posted by offcamber above show the clearance with it mounted this way, although the bolt that is interfering on your box also looks flush with the nut on his. Let me know if that helps?

I'll keep you updated as I hear more - thank you!

My box clears the rack bolts by quiet a bit not even close to being issue. The only issue I really have is the tail light. Mine doesn't hit at all with the door flipped and when not moving.I don't know what is happening when I'm underway. I'm going to keep an eye on it and see if there is any wear.

I really like the Toolbox but shipping is a bit steep to here in the UK. I might be more tempted if I could get it in black to match the frame of my bike. Is that a possibility?

A $3 rattle can of flat black should do the trick!

Jason, I'm a little late to the party, but wondering if the DS box will fit under Jesse racks. I've briefly looked through this thread but don't find any reference.

Thanks, Scott

Bit the bullet and ordered one. will supply some pics when I get it mounted behind my Touratech racks.

Depending on how it looks I may take a spray can to it. I will fit it first and see.

Mo, looking forward to seeing how it goes for you. I've still not managed to find a way to get it fitted properly with the supplied bracketry. They've sent me multiple brackets to fit it and have tried to help but none on the combinations have got it right to date. My surgery and work schedule have just not allowed me the time to go through the fabrication process. I'm planning on making this a focal point in my upcoming tech day. September in N. California if you're around.

Hi Scott - great question! I know the Jesse racks fit pretty tightly to the bike, so I'm not 100% certain if there would be space. If you can take a few pictures of the bike with the panniers off (top down, rear forward, side straight-on, etc.), I can bounce them off DSBP and get their feedback if one of the applications would work as-is or would require some new bracketry.

Thanks!

Yeah - the Jesses and the Holans fit very tightly. The advantage is a very narrow overall system width; the downside is there just isn't a lot of space to hide stuff in there.

I do have tool tubes available as an alternative solution if the toolbox won't fit up.

Thanks!

Hi FireFight911 - if you can shoot me a few pics or notes on where it's not fitting up optimally, I'd be happy to take a look and/or see if DSBP has any ideas. There's at least a few Touratech-equipped bikes running around with the toolboxes on there, but definitely want to make sure we get you fitted up!

Thanks...

My thoughts how to add more clearance for the mounted DS toolbox and make it fit with other panniers.
- The toolbox for the OEM side cases fits tight but it could be moved toward the tire a lot.
- There is almost 1.5" of clearance between a Michelin Anakee III and the inside of toolbox.
- The mounting bolt hole is .25" outside of the down bracket. Reversing the bracket bend should provide a .5" more clearance to the inside.
- The toolbox fits maybe .031" in front of the US turn signal. Should work very well on EU Tenere (LED turn signal).
- The toolbox mounting slots are not indexed properly. If they were indexed evenly there could be more lateral adjustment for the EU Tenere.
- The toolbox fits VERY close to the subframe but it does not make contact.
- The toolbox brackets are installed in the fully extended position and that is the only way they can be installed. Suggestion: remove a weak point, lessen the adjustment, and add strength to the brackets.
- Have not measured it but the rear brake caliper clearance should be .5" from the bottom of the toolbox.

VERY good communication between the User, Distributor, and Manufacturer is necessary to make the toolbox fit properly and I did not see this happening in the past.

Just my 2 cents.

It has just arrived. The reason it took so long was that I contacted DS Bike Protection directly in Spain to discuss having it coated in black. Apparently this was their first request for this so it took them a little longer. Although not as long Touratech are taking!! I ordered my rack on the 26/7/13 and because I wanted it in black rather than stainless steel I now have to wait till September!!

With the confirmation of delivery I was sent an email with pictures of how to fit the toolbox with a Touratech rack...Below. I received mine sticker free in black and will follow up with some pictures of that later.

So, what you're saying is Spain can tell us how to mount to Touratech racks (as has been asked here since hearing about the box stateside and people with Touratech racks buying them, me included) but the local distributor here can't. They've sent me two complete and different sets of mounts, of which none work on their own or combined.

Thanks for posting the pics of what they say will work. Now, maybe, I will go out and try, again, to make it work on mine. Of course, I have to go out and manufacturer the shown pieces myself.

<off rant>

Looking forward to seeing yours in black and THANK YOU for posting those pics.

Hi Phil - the pictures Mo posted are of the brand new Touratech mount that DSBP has just completed. I've been providing feedback to DSBP and they have done a nice job with the new design. I didn't receive the email with pictures of your install with the second set of brackets, but please resend to sales AT advmotorrad DOT com and we can get you setup.

DSBP is also sending me a few sets of the new Touratech brackets to update previous customers and I'd be happy to send you a set at no charge if you don't want to fabricate your own. I'm hoping to receive these with the next order due in from Spain in a few weeks, so please let me know and I can set aside a set for you.

Any other questions, please let me know!

Thanks....

Jason

...now, does this box work with NO pannier mounts?

Does the kit come with extended bolts to use in place of the stock bolts holding the passenger hand rails in place?

Hi sportsguy - the toolbox comes with specific brackets based on the pannier system you have installed - OEM/Happy Trail use the same kit, Touratech, and SW-Motech. The Touratech brackets have recently been updated (per pics posted earlier) which improves the fit. You can select which pannier system you have at checkout and we'll make sure you get the right kit!

The stock grab handle bolts are long enough that they are reused with the installation - no need for longer hardware.

Any other questions, please let me know.

Thanks!

Did you miss the part where I said NO pannier mounts? ;) (Could be my post was clear only to me, too.)

Because what I meant by that was I have no panniers, thus no mounts for panniers. Trying to understand if this box ONLY works WITH panniers, or if it'll work without panniers/mounts also...

...and if it does work without panniers/mounts, which option should I choose given the site forces a choice and no choice fits my scenario...?

Not trying to be a smart a$$ here, to be clear.

I'm guessing the box DOES work without panniers/mounts, but again, such an option isn't clear on the site when ordering...thus my questions.

It's not you, trust many of us who have dealt with him. See my frustration just to get what I have to work. It's a great concept. It's more of a do it yourself deal though for the most part as the parts between the box and the bike are not well developed. There's no reason to think a lack of panniers would be any more developed or understood.
