No prob, Jeff. We all try to be patient, for sure. I've got the side panniers dialed in (MicaTech V2's, w/ SW racks), along with a Givi E36 top case set up. The AltRider guys are dialing in on their own designs. Crash bars and skid plate are going to be the most important, for me.

The Super Tenere appears to be a huge, technological leap forward . It's the bike many of us have been migrating towards, for decades.

I am not expecting "love", at first ride, but a bike that will log some big miles, take me to some cool places, hold its own in the twisty stuff, be my mule, and get me back home without drama.

My DL1000 is on the way to its new owner. I'm hoping and praying that the S10 is everything I think will be. I would never have sold my Strom, if I felt this new bike wasn't significantly better. Time will tell!

Hey, guys,

Jeff brings up a good point: ordering things ahead of time, and the problems that sometimes involves. All of us, at one point or another, have purchased something online and found out later it either wasn’t in stock or was going to take a lot longer to arrive than promised.

That’s one of the things we try hard to avoid. On our product pages, you’ll see ship dates (on the right hand side by the price) that we keep updated. If there isn’t a date, it’s because it’s still possible the date may change and we don’t to make you promises we can’t keep.

Some of you may have already noticed, but our product pages also tell you whether or not parts are in stock. The website is tied directly to our inventory database – which means if you order the last side stand foot for the Tenere that we have in our warehouse, the next person who visits that page will see we’re out of stock, and won’t purchase it under the impression we still have plenty of them to ship.

It’s true that right now, our website says several things are in production… that’s because they are actually being manufactured right now. We’re taking pre-orders so you can “get in line” and reserve your parts from the first production run, because want you to have a chance to get these parts. We already have inquiries from owners internationally, Yamaha reps, and our dealer network, but you guys have given us valuable feedback and we want to respect that.

Trust me, we are just as eager as you to have these parts in stock. That’s why we made a considerable investment in bringing an Australian Tenere to the States to study for prototype development. Because of that effort, we’ll have parts ready to ship in March.

Our planned shipping dates:

Crash bars in silver: March 3
Crash bars in black: March 8
Skid plate in silver: March 10
Skid plate in black: March 10
Exhaust heat shield: March 5
Universal joint guard: March 5
Luggage rack in silver: March 9
Luggage rack in black: March 9
Rear brake master cylinder guard: March 5

We’re excited for these parts to finally be available.

Jeremy, when you say the crash bars are available in silver, is that the bead blasted s.s., or are you actually going to paint them silver?

Jerermy, Sometimes it is hard buying something that you have not seen.. I do appreciate the effort you have put out and the changes you have made. Keep up the good work.
I decided I would order my parts from ALTrider today. I did not want to have my bike, and not have the parts I wanted. :'(

Jeremy, a while back on advrider you posted this sketch with the comment:

" I had our designer give me a few images to illustrate some of the changes we were able to dial in before beginning production."

Did this design make final production or did you stick with the original contour of the upper bar?

Thanks,

@Jakeboy: the silver crash bars are raw stainless. The black ones are stainless in a black powder coat.

@japako: thank you for your support, and glad we can help you. Look forward to seeing pictures of your bike!

@fredz43: we went into production with the modified lines of the bars, as shown in the image.

Jeremy, will the ABS switch you guys are developing work on the fly?

@Mellow: that is a part that we’ve been considering developing. Where would it make sense to you to have the lights mount? And do you have pictures of something specific that works well on the R 1200 GS?

@k woo: that’s what we’re aiming for, but until we have access to another bike, it’s difficult to say. We had limited time to test out only our earliest prototypes. We’ll continue development soon.

Our parts for the Super Tenere are now in production, and we’re excited they’ll soon be available. As is always the case with the prototyping process, the parts are refined and changed before going into production. You’ll see on our website when production parts are available that in a few cases the styling has been changed, or in the case of our crash bars, the lines better reflect those of the bike.

Our skid plate is another part that has undergone changes. The prototype coverage was great – we wanted to reach high on the left to protect the stator, as well as keep the headers safe on the right side. We were also happy with the bracket mounting system we developed, as it is key to protecting the sump and preventing the plate from swiveling upon impact. However, the overall weight of the skid plate system was a concern.

We evaluated different solutions about how to take off weight without compromising protection, and finally settled on constructing the plate of 3.175mm anodized aluminum instead of 4.75mm. This means that our plate is still the thickest available for the Tenere, and gains additional strength from the powder coated steel brackets that mount it.

It was important to us to communicate this change, although slight. We know some of you are planning to pre-order sight unseen because you’ve read the specs or seen a prototype at a motorcycle show, and we want to make sure you have the most up-to-date information possible when choosing to buy from AltRider.

Would you please post pics when the parts come off the line? Also did you determine if the rt side panel will come off without taking the entire crash bar off? Did you change the design of the crash plate or only the thickness?
Thanks

Jeremy,

If you are still planning on being at the Indy Dealer Show next weekend, I look forward to stopping at your booth and checking out your products.

@japako: yes, we will update with pictures when the production pieces are ready. The skid plate thickness changed, as did the mounting bracket material (from raw stainless to 1/8 inch powder coated steel). The design itself remains the same.

@fredz43: I'll be at booth #1744 at the Dealer Expo -- look forward to seeing you next weekend.

Jeremy, I can understand the change from 4.75mm to 3.175 thickness for the skid plate, but why change the bracket mounts from Stainless to powdercoated steel?

I know I would prefer to have what sets you apart from other designs, one of those being the stainless material. I thought your brackets looked great in stainless combined with the black skid plate and that is what I was going to order.
Is there some other factor that I am not thinking of? Thanks for your help.

I like the stainless steel brackets also. They where nice and beefy looking. If you using thiner metal for the skid plate is the price also going down?

When we go through the prototype process, we’re trying out our initial designs on the bike for fitment and aesthetic appeal, but we also look for ways that we can make it as strong as possible while keeping the price affordable. That’s what prompted the changes in the skid plate.

The skid plate itself will be a powder coated aluminum, which we think will look great with the powder coated brackets. When the production pieces are ready in our warehouse, I’ll post pictures so you can evaluate it for yourself. The aggressive styling, designed to complement the lines of the Tenere, is the same, and the plate itself is still the thickest available.

The price on this piece is $332.97, which is based upon the changes we made going into production.

Please don't take this the wrong way, but I just wanted to put my thoughts out here on the skidplate . . .

I've bought a few skidplates for other bikes I've had and have never had to pay more than $100. Yours is $220 more than the most expensive plate I've ever bought. I understand there is more to this one than your typical bent piece of aluminum with a couple mounting holes in it, but if I'm going to be paying that much more, I'd expect that much more. I have no issue with the thinner aluminum, but I am really questioning the move from stainless to mild steel. Stainless is much harder than mild steel and with the weight of this bike I'd think you'd want as much structural integrity as you can get. Of course being on the bottom of the bike it will be subject to a more corrosive environment than other parts of the bike, which would be another reason to use stainless.

That said, I am still looking at the ALTrider's skidplate as my first choice, but I won't be making my final decision until I get closer to actually having a bike to install it on.

Just my .02

Jeremy, does the current crash bar design allow for both sides to be removed without taking the bars off? Is there any chance for a future design, regardless of how far it sticks out, that will allow for both panels to be removed?

thanks
