Back in my V-Strom days I did several rallies at the Iron Horse. http://ironhorsenc.com/ The facility is fantastic with a camp ground, cabins and great food on-site. The V-Strom group would book it in advance and we had groups of about 100. The area has some of the best paved roads in the eastern US. I'm sure there are great dirt options there, but I never got to try them.

I realize the east coast has never been in favor for the Tenere event, but still thought I'd throw it out there.

Check out videos from the Morrison Jeep Trail. Entrance from the west off of Beartooth isn't too difficult but as you travel east the road gets much rougher and is not big-bike friendly, especially the switchbacks near the Clarks Fork of the Yellowstone canyon.

The Iron Horse Lodge is legit, only 10 minutes from Robbinsville. There is a bike rental facility just across the road (NC 28) as you're driving in.

I wonder what kind of dirt is around there? Riding around Yellowstone is no fun in the summer. Too many people. We used to rent snow machines in West Yellowstone and ride around there in the winter until they closed us out.

I was locked and loaded for the 2016 UT rally, then ended up getting a job offer I couldn't refuse starting 2 weeks before the rally.

So now I'm looking West for Sept/Oct of 2017. If there's a Super Tenere rally out there, I'd likely plan my trip around it ... again... and hopefully actually get to go this time.

If there was something in the East, I'd be all over it, but it would be less epic for me.

When stuff starts being a day or more of driving/ riding to get to, it's orders of magnitude harder to pull off for me. A trip to UT costs me 4-6 LONG days of driving/ riding just to get there and back. If I can only swing a week off, that's somewhere between grueling and untenable.

I have been following this thread. I have been a Tenere owner for less than two years and a member of this forum for about the same amount of time.
I have never attended a rally put on by this group.

My question is what exactly goes into a "national" rally?
Are there tech sessions, seminars or published routes? -JEP-

hi Jim,

I went to the two rallies at The Hub in AR and they are not like a MSTA rally that you and I are familiar with. While there were some recommended routes, there were no seminars, tech sessions, etc. We did have an organized dinner on the last night along with some door prizes, but the primary attraction was getting to meet other S10 riders and enjoy some good riding, both on paved roads and off road. I had lots of fun at both of them.

It's largely a get-together to meet the people we get to know so well through the forum(s) in a nice location.

Meet some folks who like the kind of riding you like, be it more road or trail oriented, fast or slow, then tell tall tales around a camp fire. Some have routes when folks have experience in the area, and others don't. Obviously with a bunch of guys having similar bikes you can probably get any kind of tech question answered or maybe even looked at.

There are also a number of smaller get-togethers, such as our annual one in Romney WV the weekend before Mothers Day, which has gotten to the point that we have sub-groups for the VStroms, the 650 singles, and other bikes. Others have been put together in other areas too.

When I was on my first Iron Butt ride I ran into TwoLukes and he invited me to this rally. I intend to take him up on his invitation so I'm eagerly awaiting a decision on the location and dates so I can get to planning!! As a side note, you can't go wrong anywhere in Western CO the riding here is awesome for every single skill set. ::017::

I am willing to "host" a rally... There are quite a few options for camp/lodging that are centrally located among the many backroads and trails here on the western slope of CO. Having never even been to a rally I might need little help with some of the details but here is my offer of hosting none the less... What say the collective?? Western Slope Tenere rally??

I'd be in. For me it's a great ride just getting there.

I love riding out there! As a matter of fact June 11 through 15th I'll be in Colorado Springs, Co for the www.ridemsta.com's 2017 National Rally. So start the Tenere Rally right after/before that. I know of probably 5 - 6 MSTA members who ride Tenere and who would probably also attend this rally!
