Yamaha pannier lock cylinder fell out

Same happened to me. To remove case - assuming the metal housing into which the barrel slots is still there - use the lock barrel from the other case (unscrew it, slot it in the case to be unlocked, screw it up). I couldn't get a key for the replacement barrel coded to the bike's ignition...

    Rekeying the Yamaha Factory Luggage

Dave, there is a part number for the lock barrels as a set and individually (check the accessories page @ Yamaha UK). New XT12s should indeed be supplied with a set of 3 barrels coded to the ignition key whether or not you buy the luggage, but I don't know if that's always the case in practice...

    Arggh Oil leak! and RUST!

I'm waiting on a replacement clutch cover: dealer changed the gasket and reckoned the dowels measured out OK, but it's still weeping (very slightly) at the same point. Re. corrosion, unimpressed with nickel plated spokes and I've noticed that the paint on that water pipe you mention has taken a...

    Cockpit mount

Roger, it sounds as if we have the same setup (GPS mount & screen). The fully-damped TT mount for the 550 is secure, and the unit is legible on the move, but it moves around too much on its "suspension" for my liking. You can adjust that out, to some extent, by fixing zip ties to limit the...

Stock screen vs. the Yamaha tall screen with the seat adjustment

Buffel, have you got any photos mate? I'm thinking of trying the MRA screen with my TT adjuster. Not sure sure whether to the go for the standard MRA touring screen or the MRA X-screen - which is even taller.

Black WaspWorks decals on the Silver Super Tenere!!!

Thanks Bundu, I'd guessed by looking at your photos that you must be searching for the right set up. I've mounted the TT bracket in its highest position and set the screen so it's high but perhaps a little more slanted than yours. It's the best compromise I've found so far (I'm about 1.86m...

Black WaspWorks decals on the Silver Super Tenere!!!

Hi Bundu, I notice from your pics that you have the same screen setup as me -- Yamaha touring screen, TT mount/adjuster, side deflectors. May I ask how tall you are? I've been struggling to get mine adjusted to an "ideal" position which dials out the worst of the buffeting. You seem to have...

    5th Gear Whine

Yes, I'd say there's some noticeable whine and I think the hypoid gear arrangement in the shaft is most likely responsible. I have seen mention of this elsewhere (can't recall where right now) and I don't think my bike is any different from the demo I tried in this respect.

    S10 Fuel Consumption Thread

Funny you should mention 49 miles on reserve Tontos. Rode back from Wales the other week, didn't want to stop and got into a game of 'dare' with the bike's range as 10, 20, 30 then 40 miles clocked past on the F trip meter. Made it home, put the bike away. Next day, fired her up but she died...

    best ALL around gps??

Gamin's Montana is due for release shortly and on paper appears to supply what many users say they want from a multipurpose outdoor GPS (routable street mapping, topo, big screen, 3 axis compass, 16-hour battery, etc). I'll be looking closely at it as a possible replacement for my Zumo 550...

Side stand foot extender - user comments?

Hi japako, part no. is 420.4531-12. In the Hepco & Becker catalogue but, as RogerJ says, branded up and sold by Wunderlich. So it comes in a bag which says "parts for BMW" on it... :)

Side stand foot extender - user comments?

Props to you for dropping them a line Swagger, but to be honest that reads like a canned response. As for them claiming ignorance of the problem.... ::)....the guy I spoke to was perfectly well clued in and immediately agreed the part just isn't up to the job. I suppose it's possible one or...

Nick Sanders Super Ténéré Pan American record attempt

Sanders's epic "double" of the full length of the Americas, on board a Super Ténéré, is underway and being tracked over on his website: http://www.nicksanders.com/2011/parallel_world.html Looks like he made good progress yesterday. Some progress reports also cropping up here...

    ::..Windshield "wings"..::

Could do with doing some careful with/ without tests, but at the moment I'm not convinced the "wings" are doing much - other than possibly exaggerating turbulence when following in the wake of larger vehicles...

Side stand foot extender - user comments?

Yep, Touratech know it's not right because when I contacted them about mine they said the same thing had happened with theirs. They refunded promptly, so credit to them for that. I've just put on a replacement ordered in from Hepco & Becker in Germany (through Motobins in the UK) which is one...

    well p155ed off

It's not a stumble as such, but there is a point between 3 and 4 k revs when the motor seems to be "gathering its skirts" as it were. I assume this a slight emissions-inspired dip in the power. Not noticed any unduly strange noises, though I suppose I'd normally knock it up out of first at...

    An Appalachain Spring

Good stuff, spklbuk. If you don't already have them, you might also dig the "Appalachia Waltz" and "Appalachian Journey" albums featuring Yo-Yo Ma, Edgar Meyer, Mark O'Connor (cello, bass, fiddle) among others.

Side stand foot extender - user comments?

Thanks titsken, that certainly looks as if it will do the job forever and a day! macca, noted re. the Cameltoe. I did wonder about the implications of the bolt heads being proud of the underside of the stand plate. Leaning towards the Altrider extender, but wouldn't mind hearing from an...

Side stand foot extender - user comments?

In light of my experience with the Touratech part (see http://www.yamahasupertenere.com/index.php?action=genericDB;sa=showEntry;entryId=31;cat=1), I am looking for an alternative. Anyone else have a side stand foot extender fitted to their bike? Any comments, good or bad?

Grrrr Naaarrrgghhhh ... new tools then!

Heh. I also thought I'd failed at the first hurdle when I noticed those security torx bolts. But, amazingly, I actually already had the correct bit in a socket set! Allow plenty of time for that job, though, unless you are super handy with the spanners. You've got to pretty much strip the...
