There is a website called Fuelly that invites people to report their real world mileage on their vehicles. I've been tracking with it, on all my vehicles, since 2008. So far, I only see two S10s there, and neither have much data. But if members of this forum would join and track their bikes, we'd eventually have a better idea what to expect.

Supere Tenere page at Fuelly: http://www.fuelly.com/motorcycle/yamaha/xtz%20super%2010

Here are examples of badges you can put in a forum sig.

I've seen other folks with the Fuelly banners, but I never looked into it until just now. It doesn't look like they offer smartphone apps for entering your fill-up data. Any idea if they do? It would be nice to just punch in to an app before taking off rather than trying to mess with the web, especially if there is no signal.

EDIT: still looks like no offline app, but at least they have a mobile version of the site: http://www.fuelly.com/faq/11/Fuelly-Mobile

I have not done proper testing, but as far as I can tell touring mode does not seem to change fuel consumption. I rarely use it now although I think it can make heavy city driving a little less fatiguing.

I am in my second week commuting now and my average is standing at 5L/100km so far this week. 5.4L/100km actual. My long commute was a bit more energetic this week, 125 to 135 km/h indicated. My consumption was around. 5.4L/100km indicated for that section, 5.8 actual.
41 mpg US at a good pace, not bad.

I have logged just over 5000km's : Most in Touring mode and travelling around 130km/hr - 80% and Urban - 20%. This reflected a constant 5.1 L/100km. On dirt and switched to Sport mode, being a moderate hooligan, the consumption is around 5.8 L/100km.This with a combined mass of (270 + 95 + 7 ) 372 kg's ,which is remarkable.

Don't know if fuel consumption improves with warmer weather or if I have had some tailwinds recently, but my average fuel consumption has been better through May compared to April. Been getting around 5L/100km actual during my commuting lately. Also noted that if you are strict and keep the speeds legal (more or less) then ~50 US mpg is quite realistic.

There are a couple of Harley riders in our annual tour group. They like to ride right at 70 mph on the Interstate, so the range of the Super 10 should be excellent. 250 miles to a tank, easily! The best I could do with my V Strom was 220-230. It's nice to know you've got decent range on a tank.

Almost twice the CC's as my KLR and getting almost the same MPG. That’s great. 8)

I was not expecting that even with EFI. I should not be that surprised, I have an FJR and have got 44MPG with it, 2 up and loaded. That’s good for me because I can't go a tank full without going WFO with the right hand a time or two or three. Who's counting anyway. It’s all fun. :)

Spritmonitor.de is the German equivalent of Fuely. If you can be bothered to convert the units it's good info.

Here's my S10;

Lots of other S10's on there aswell;

Wow that's a pretty nifty website, thanks for the link TooTall

As a side note, based on my most likely flawed math you are paying $8.35 per gallon. Now I don't feel quite as bad paying $4

I have added my fuelly.com banner to my signature . Mind I am in the UK and our gallons are different from US gallons but the MPG is much better than for an FJR as I have just done 10 days riding with 3 FJRs in Scotland and they always put in more fuel than I did . The other Tenere on the tour was 2 up and his fuel consumption wasnt much different from mine . We both were using tour mode.

Perhaps someone can tell me what range they have got from their tank as so far I have done 49 miles after the F flag appears and havent been able to get more than 20.5 litres in and its supposed to have a 23 or 24 litre tank. The F seems to come up about 180 to 190 miles which means so far I have got about 229 in but not emptied the little devil yet.

Funny you should mention 49 miles on reserve Tontos. Rode back from Wales the other week, didn't want to stop and got into a game of 'dare' with the bike's range as 10, 20, 30 then 40 miles clocked past on the F trip meter. Made it home, put the bike away. Next day, fired her up but she died before I could turn a wheel. Yep, I'd run out of petrol. The trip mileage? 49 miles exactly....

The max. usable range for me, filling carefully to the bottom of the filler neck, is 220 miles 'spirited' riding and 240 if touring.

400km a tank is a reality, but I usually chicken out when I am 50 to 60 km into the reserve. The proverbial F. Never exceeded 21 liters on the refill.

As a gross average consumption over 16000km / 10000 miles I got 5.2l/100 = 45.2 US mpg = 54.2 UK mpg. On the autobahn at 150-160 km/h = 95-100 mph it's around 7l/100 km = 33.6 US mpg = 40.3 UK mpg.

The consumption went down a few percents since I started using the "S" mode exclusively. I assume that's because one tends to be more careful with the throttle when it responds more directly. There was another slight improvement by increasing (!) the exhaust gas volume from "0" to "10" as described in the service manual, p. 3-10. Also the engine seems to be more responsive now.

Tontos, I really like fuelly.com! It is a good source for real world info on what you can expect from a given vehicle. I've been using it since 2008 and at this point the Super10 has the second best stats with a lifetime average of 41.3, behind the NT with its lifetime average of 51.2. I have three vehicles currently getting tracked and a couple others that are "retired". The TDM is at 40.2, the DL1000 ended at 40.2, the VFR ended at 39.9, and the pickup truck ended at 13.8.

Based on my experience of tracking multiple vehicles over multiple years, I believe that any vehicle will get better mileage when it's used more. If you burn through a tank of fuel in a day or three, you'll see far better numbers, than if it takes you a month or more to run it out. This is not just the city vs highway thing, IMHO - I don't have the data in fuelly, but I did track it, and the TDM got far better mileage when it got out more, and when I take it out I ride into the country immediately, it's not just running errands. Also, every vehicle gets better mileage in the summer than in the winter. I predict that the NT's average mileage will decline since the Super10 has demoted it to occasional use. The Super10's average mileage will decline because we're heading into winter, but it'll pick up again next spring.
