Thanks. I don't pick it up until next weekend so there's going to be some sleepless nights for me this week.

I splurged for the Tech Pack, so it has all the goodies unlocked (even Rally Mode).
So...did you get it?

Yep! And crashed it already. 15 mph 90 degree turn, three blocks from my house, pavement temps in the 40's, and brand-spanking-new-slick-as-shit rear tire.......low-sided with absolutely no warning. Fortunately I was only doing @ 10 mph and had all my gear on.

Bent brake pedal and chewed up plastic tank guard (new parts already on the way). First road crash in 40 years, guess I'm good for another 40 now?

Not off to a flying start (no pun intended) with this orange thing.......hope the S10 didn't put a curse on her replacement.

Too much power or too little Traction Control? At one point I saw a video on MCRider, emphasizing the increased risk when you set foot on a new to you bike!

Glad you're okay. Sorry to hear of the mishap.

When I read what happened I instantly recalled the first right turn I made on the SAS I test rode this spring. It was a slow, cautious start, but the rear end stepped out as if on ice. It was shocking and unquestionably the slipperiest tire I ever encountered. Insane a tire manufacturer can deliver a tire that can surprise even riders with decades of experience.

I guess if you're safe for the next 40 years it's all for the good.

I am looking forward to happier reports in the near future.

I was coasting through the curve and leaned the bike over on a rear tire that has less then 2 miles on it.....simply a painful reminder to take it VERY easy on new tires until you get them scrubbed in a bit. ;-)

THIS^

Exactly! Like wet glare ice. One second I'm dipping into a sharp right-hander, next second I'm on my back and watching my bike sliding towards the opposite shoulder.....no warning at all.

Bike's good but now that the dust has cleared it's become apparent that my ribs are gonna be hurting pretty bad tomorrow.

Yes, after my slip I was extraordinary easy on scrubbing in the tire for my test. All good after that.

Heal up. Let us know when you get a chance to enjoy the bike.

Back in the days of when I got my FJ, Bridgestone was the OE tire de jour. I was told that it was because Dunlops were harder tires, and protected the rims while in transit. I don't about the "in transit" theory, but I do know that I did several burnouts and still got about 10k miles out of them.

Burn out or not...I've never seen anyone report getting close to 10K miles on a SAS tire. At this point I think it would actually raise questions if you got anywhere near that.

That was in '86. I know that tires are completely different now v. then. And I've never been able to get close to that mileage since . . . . with any brand. FWIW, I don't tell fish stories. My point was that two bikes, one manufacturer, similar new tire results.

Agreed on all points. I've never seen you as a fish story kinda guy. Plus I actually did get over 10k with the Tenere and the E-07. It can be done ... all it take is non-spirited riding. SAS doesn't do that.

So . . . . rereading my post about hard/slippery OE tires. For the life of me, I do not know why I typed Dunlop. They were Bridgestones. 'Cuz, I remember thinking that there might be something in the name; being hard as rock. Dunlops were what I switched to. o_O

I was watching a you tube video of somebody who just bought a new 1290 and was riding it home. Nice easy 90 degree right turn and it fell like someone pulled the tires out from under him. I have never seen a bike go down like that except on ice. It was crazy how slick those new tires were! It looked more like he lost the front and rear at the same time.

I still have my nuke bike. I'll keep it till I don't feel comfortable wrassling the big girl any longer. It has been a great bike.

I still have my FJR with it's lower saddle and lower CG. A replacement for the Super Tenere? I am a technology adopter (so called by one of the Millennial engineers I hired) and would say T7 hands down but I would miss the electronics. But it is still on the list. I would add MCCruise as a first farkle and it would suit me fine probably as long as I am able to ride.

Curious that it is always reported to the right. I had made three 90 degree turns to the left before reaching the stop sign. That first right turn was an eye opener. Sounds like I was lucky not to be returning a bent bike.

Yep, right hand turn. Love to see that video because that's exactly what happened to me.....completely unexpected. I remember thinking "What the actual fuck just happened?" as I lay in the road. Perfect description "like someone pulled the tires out from under him". I poked around at the scene of the crime today and there is no evidence of gravel, slick spots, tar snake, nothing...just perfectly smooth tarmac. I've searched forums and the interwebs for similar experience but didn't get any hits. (maybe people are too embarrassed to share?)

Anyhoo, makes me feel better knowing I'm not alone but right turns are going to freak me out for the next hundred or so miles. (of course the tire is pretty scrubbed now after skating across the road...)

What are they?
MITAS Terra (terrible) Force-R specifically designed for this bike.

I'm pretty tempted just to go out and film some epic burnout videos this weekend so I can ditch that widowmaker of a tire and put something on it that won't try to kill me. Stay tuned........

Hey DD, What are you running on yours?
