I rode a modified KTM 1290 and was not impressed, I believe the modifications were probably messed up by the installer, probably would have ran better without the modifications.

Ive ridden this bike with only a muffler... It was a total BEAST, if you wanted it to be... I think the KTM has the best off-road geometry period in my book. You give up some on the highway and 'road' use but it feels excellent. I also REALLY like the clutch feel and throttle spring, both of those are very nice.

ALL of these ADV bikes, from ALL the manufactures have pro's and con's.... It's ultimately really up to the rider for what they are doing, where they want to go, and possibly how far away these trips might be (how do they want to use the bike). All these bikes are NOT for every person. I kinda get sick and tired of the Ford VS Chevy idealism of what people should or should not buy because of weight, power, size or color................................. who cares.... we all enjoy the same thing, riding motorcycles !
(For most folks on the internet this is a slight joke, sometimes it gets deeper and goes to far on some forums)

Maybe its just me, if someone camped next to me with a Russian made bike, Harley, 300HP Hayabusa, 125cc Chinese bike, we would all have a blast and learn about each others bikes and have a great time. Why all the distain for something that doesn't fit your needs or ideas, but is great for someone else's wants / needs ? Don't get it?

I might just have to buy 100cc Amazon ADV bike as my new bike and then go ride every BDR in the US ! ................. LOLOLOLOLO

Have a great time out there, our time is limited !

It's the Super Adventure S. It would be wrong for me to do the 1290 R. Although the R is another fantastic Adventure bike.

I wanted a Husky dirt bike bad in the 70's. I worry about dealership network and availability of them around the nation.

It's 99% KTM... some have no issues, others have more issues........ I have no skin in the game, Im not buying, just thought the photo looked cool... I think this is some new long range, adventure, big tank, 901..... Good or bad, KTM comes out with new bikes about every other month. And the other brands under their umbrella they own, come out with new version almost just as often. Cool offerings of many models for the folks in the market !

This might have that new KTM parallel twin that is 140-145Hp...

Ha-Ha-Ha......... the other side of that coin is the Tenere hasn't changed in 13 years................. Ha-Ha-Ha.

Oh sorry, it added cruise control 10 years ago. LOLOLOLO

And the bike is solid as a rock.

I think the T700 should have come with the exhaust mounted like this photo as well.... Pretty smart for off road. Like the OLD-OLD KTM 990's

This is a huge advantage. The design can be subtly refined over time and well proven. In comparison in the same time period for big ADV bikes KTM has had the 990, 1090, 1190, 1290, and now things are coming full circle back to a 990 again (possibly made in China).

The R&D and initial production costs of all these different engines get foisted onto their customers, as do all the problems that arise from making so many different engines in such a short time period.

A new KLR, TW, or DS should pretty much have an MSRP of @ $25 bucks by now. :)

That's partially baked into the cake. For those bikes, the manufacturers likely plan for at least a ten year run, and they can amortize their setup costs over a far longer period compared to something like the KTM 1190 that only served for 3 years.

A really late 990 ADV isn't a bad bet. The nice ones I see for sale are at or over $10,000 and there are some new small ADV bikes similarly priced.
