I just got the Yamaha side deflectors and went to install them. Each side has three holes. The kit came with 8 well nuts and 6 screws. I was aggravated to find that the screws didn't fit the well nuts. They shipped the wrong size.
I went out and bought a kit with well nuts and screws. The well nuts match Yamaha's exactly, and the new screws are the right size. However, when I try to install them, the well nuts don't work at all. The rubber doesn't catch; it spins, binds, deforms and tears. This makes me think they included the wrong style of well nut, the kind with brass threads only on the end.
I've rarely been so frustrated by something that should be so trivial, and feel like just tossing it all in a bag and sending it back to Yamaha. And strangling whoever thought to use well nuts to attach windscreens instead of rubber washers.
Have any of you had a similar experience, or did your kit go on easily? I may try ordering 6 of the large grommet-style well nuts used for the windscreen mount. It could be those were originally intended.
(I also found out the Touratech adjustable windscreen mount is incompatible with side deflectors because it blocks the front mount holes.)
