I just got a GoPro HD.... Ive been doing some reading and Ive seen many video's with the little camera. This thing is WAY cool.. Over the last few years I kinda thought it was an On-Off type simple unit.. I'm DUMB I guess.... This thing is just shy of a NASA computer in this little baby....

I'm still learning, if some of you got one chime in... FOR SURE, im gunna have a ton of VID's here shortly...... Wooooo - Hooooo

For the guys that have them..........
~What size SD do you use...

I'm using a 32GB card by Transcend that works just fine. Also I've got a second battery and a universal 12V charger so I can charge the second battery in my tank bag while riding. Here's what google Translate makes of the German website where I bought the charger:

http://translate.google.com/translate?sl=de&tl=en&js=n&prev=_t&hl=de&ie=UTF-8&layout=2&eotf=1&u=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.helmkamera-systeme.de%2Fproduct_info.php%2Finfo%2Fp230_universal-akku-ladegeraet-fuer-helmkameras.html&act=url

I think it's most important where you put the camera. I especially like the perspective you get when you strap the GoPro to your chest with their chest mount harness:

It's a bummer that the tank bag (which holds my Zoom H1 audio recorder in reach) always gets in the way:

My wife gave me one for my birthday and my oldest son gave me a chest strap for fathers day. Haven't had the time to try it yet let alone go for a ride lately. Can this thing use a remote mike?

That makes TWO. Just got one yesterday for a late fathers' day present. Tried it out today. Just using the helmet strap. I'm thinking the chesty strap or bar mount, are purchases in the future.

@tubebender: AFAIK there is no way to connect an external mic to the GoPro - yet. That's why I'm using a Zoom H1 audio recorder with an external lavalier mic, gaffa-taped on top of the rear fender.

@kevhunts: I've got a LeoVince Evo II with dB-killer:
http://www.leovince.com/en/catalog-yamaha/terminale_factory_omologato_evo_ii_passaggio_standard_xt_1200_z_super_t_n_r_i_e_2010/12655

@Tabasco: I have set my camera to PAL. I use "r2" (=1280x720px @ 25 fps) when the cam is in the chest mount. Then "r2" is good enough, because there are only few vibrations. That format yields videos small enough to upload them directly to Youtube without re-encoding.
When I install the camera directly to the bike (usually to the crash rail next to the headlights), I use "r3" with a higher framerate and bitrate, because then the engine's vibrations corrupt the video quality. Before uploading, I re-encode these videos because otherwise they are freakishly huge.
IMHO "r5" doesn't improve the image quality because it is merely upscaled. Also the field of view is narrower, which would make it a good setting if you're trying to film a buddy riding in front of you.

You can find all of my videos in my youtube channel: http://www.youtube.com/user/christophschm?feature=mhee

Now some of my favourites. I hope everyone knows how to view fullscreen and 720p HD (when the video is running, click on the "360p" below it and change it to "720p", then click the symbol with four arrows on the right).

Rossfeld panoramic street, close to Berchtesgaden (cam on bike, GoPro's audio):
Roßfeld-Panoramastraße

Lago Valvestino, Northern Italy (chest mount, Zoom H1 recording):
XT1200Z Lago di Valvestino - Navazzo

Passo Baremone, a rather adventurous mountain pass in Italy (chest mount, Zoom H1 recording):
XT1200Z Passo Baremone / del Marè

Grossglockner Alpine Road (chest mount, Zoom H1 recording):
XT1200Z Großglockner (2) Edelweißspitze - Hochtor - Franz-Josefs-Höhe

Passo di Giau, Italy. Scenery kicks in @ 8:00 min
XT1200Z Passo di Giau (1) North

Grödnerjoch, Italy. Check out the beginning and the pass's summit around 8:00
XT1200Z Grödnerjoch (Passo Gardena)

A nice little road in Southern Bavaria. I put the cam on a friend's
XT1200, so he's filming me (GoPro's audio):
XT1200Z x2 Rott - Diessen am Ammersee

Enjoy! I might not be around for questions, because tomorrow I'm leaving for a trip to Gibraltar/Spain ;D

P.S. If you watch the videos on Youtube, most of them habe descriptions where I filmed it. Just expand the video description ("Show more"...)

Chris, thanks for the info.
Next question. How do you sync up the sound to the video? Timestamp?

Really enjoy your films! Keep them coming!

I'm new the forums, and don't have a Tenere yet, but thought I'd share my GoPro video perspective.

I generally use two mounting positions -- either on top of my helmet or on my chest. I still want to try some other angles, but have messed with it much.

Here is a video of me on my track bike, camera on top of the helmet. I like this position because you can really see a good broad view of what's in front of me. It does tend to make big jumps, steep hills, etc., seem smaller or less agressive though.

Speedworld MX Park -- Last moto of the day

Here is a video of me on my trail bike, camera on my chest. I just sold this bike, I'm going to miss it. Sorry for the audio, I discovered later than my drinking tube from my water pack was slapping the camera. This angle is good for seeing what the bike is doing, but no so much for what is ahead of you. When you move from seated to standing, the camera perspective changes.

Rock Garden

Another one.

Hey guys,

Did my first GoPro today on the FJR.. It was a pretty boring 30 minutes to try it out. There is a really annoying "clicking" like something was tapping on the microphone when I was riding... Don't know what that is, or how to solve that this second.. I didnt post the VID because I dont have any editing software yet. Ive read on a few to check out, BoilSoft / MovieplusX3 / TrakAxPc Pro What do you guys use? Do you like it ? Very interested in learning, any info would be great ! Thanks ! When I get it cut down just a bit Ill post my first...

In addition, which model of the GoPro is everyone getting? Looks like the HD Hero 960 may be a good choice...........

Go HD... I've learned that you need the 4-10 speed SD card, but the brands tend to all work about the same. Just stick with a 'name brand'... This little camera is SO COOL ! ! ! Im going to be a GoPro nerd with two million Video's..... :D

sort of my thoughts as well Rod... you are going to need a bigger hard drive for all the video frames and then time to edit and up load...blaa, blaa, blaa... and they sure are cool to watch.

V.I.O. makes a pretty awesome pov hd system

They're good, they're very good I should get one. We use the VIO POV HD units strapped to our gear when we're out in the field but I've seen a lot of the embedded reporters that follow regular troops around use the GoPro ... must be good if they use 'em.

I think the deal with the GoPro is that they are less expensive. The V.I.O. looks to be extremely robust and has a bit more development history. And now that they have developed an HD model I think they might be the best out there. Swag, your comment about the military use just underlines the robust nature of the V.I.O. ;)
