I would not want to go after a large corp. but, if you use the correct filter and oil, or any other part, you are covered by this act.
The bugaboo is that word "correct". I think you can be reasonably sure Yamaha would say that Rotella diesel-engine oil and a Walmart car-engine oil filter does not meet their specs. My take is that if one were investing in an extended warranty, you'd want to keep maintenance (and the parts involved in maintenance) and mods pretty close to the vest.

(Again, nothing against the oil or the filters which, by all reports, seem to work quite well. But I won't be using either with my S10 until it is out of warranty.)

I say yes on the extended warranty. I had a Suzuki DL1000 and wasn't going to take it and my dealer talked me into it. After having it for 3 years my electrical system went. They replaced the Staider and Rectifier all under warranty. The DL was a proven bike in the states and very reliable but you never know. It saved me some money having it and piece of mind. As for the ST It might be a proven bike over seas but it is coming to the States for the first time. They have already changed the suspension for the states and who knows what else will me changed. I fell for a piece of mind it is worth the extra money to have the extended service plan.
Would you please tell us more on the suspension change? Also a link where it can be found..
Thanks

That's gotta be a typo ..... even if it isn't you're buying a Yamaha not a dodgy Suzuki. Anyway, if Yamaha's had Staiders they'd be far better quality and they'd never need to be replaced .... not never. ;D ;D

I can't find where I read it but I am sure someone in one of the other countries who have the bike already could verify. I was reading that over seas ST comes with Ohlin suspension on it and here in the states it is a regular Yami suspension.

hey Sorry Type it is Stator, it charges the battery. best way I can describe it. Yes ST has one but I bet it would be fine. It was a fluke thing that happened to the bike.

None come with Ohlins. I believe that Wasp in Australia put some Ohlins stickers on his stock suspension.

Same as what fredz43 said.. Also a person needs to be careful of what they say on the internet. I knew your comment was not correct, but someone may have taken that as gospel, then others would spread the gospel until it became the truth. ;)

Has anyone state side gotten a firm quote from their dealer regarding Y.E.S. pricing?

I will wait until the year is almost up then decide but most likely I won't purchase the YES. Yammi builds great bikes and the S10 will be no exception.

I thought you had to purchasse the YES warranty within 30 days of taking ownership.

For the price, I think it's worth it. It doesn't start until after the first 12 months expire.

I checked with South Seattle Yamaha, and they said $ 310.00 for 3 years additional.

I negotiated a 2 year extension in the original purchase. That will give me 3 years total, and I intend to put a BUNCH of miles on it in that time. I therefore think it was cheap insurance. The model is new--at least here--so it made sense to me.

I got quotes for the 5 year Y.E.S. (which is 4 years added onto included 1 year) a few different prices. Most said the MSRP was $690 for the 5 year. The prices I was told ranged from $400, a couple $465, and a couple $500.

By the way, there the TRIP benefit starts from the time of Y.E.S. purchase, even during the first year of factory warranty>

---------------------------
TRIP benefit.
Y.E.S. coverage automatically includes TRIP — Travel and Recreation Interruption Protection that's in effect from the date of Y.E.S. plan purchase, even during the factory warranty period. With TRIP, expenses related to a covered failure can be covered as well, up to $150 per occurrence. This means unexpected food or lodging expenses, transportation expenses, even a rental vehicle can be covered - and that's each time you have a covered warranty or Y.E.S. repair.

Wow! I got a quote of $999.00 for the 4 year plan. I was also told I could buy anytime before the 1 year warrenty expired.

I wonder if another dealer (cheaper) will sell me a plan of if I have to stick with my orignal dealer?
