I have never bought an extended warranty on anything. I have always figured it was just another way for a manufacturer to add a little more to a profit line. It is all about actuarials...odds of winning or loosing, sort of like Las Vegas.

But this time I may be in for it. I figure the bike will be ridden a lot, will have some hard miles on it, may get turned over in some water or mud, that I will be kept for a long time and it will ridden a lot far from home. So having that peace of mind that for the foreseeable future any Yamaha dealer anywhere I happen to be will take care of it no questions asked.

I'm a bit of a skeptic when it comes to warranties. I do plan on purchasing the YES plan, but for a dealer to fix something "no questions asked" is a bit of stretch. I expect I will be doing some bitching and moaning for the dealer to cover something when it comes to the warranty.

I haven't owned a Yamaha road bike with the YES plan. Have Yamaha Dealers been responsive in repairing stuff that should be covered under warranty?

I know there are several here with FJR's and remember reading years ago that Yamaha was giving people a hard time with the valve tick issue. I really wanted an fjr at the time, but the issue with warranty support scared me away. When the Tenere arrives and if I have any major issues with it, I will be going to the dealer and I will go in "gun's blazing". :)

I don't know if I would go in "guns blazing". People have a tendency to look at the problem in a much different way if a person has an attitude to begin with.
How the warranty issue is dealt with will depend on the dealer. Not all dealers are the same. You may want to ask about a dealers approach to warranty repairs before you use them..

Well, I'm typically very easy to work with if I feel that their putting an effort to resolve the issue, but if I sense they're just blowing me off with no re-course, you'll start seeing the little horns pop out of my head. >:D

The first Y.E.S. I ever bought was on my 06 FJR. Not one thing has gone wrong on that bike. Yam had a few recalls for a dashboard error, an ignition switch issue and a TPS issue, all taken care of quickly and courteously by my dealer at no charge to me. My Y.E.S. expires in April and appears to have been an unnecessary expense. I've heard some serious ranting and raving about the wiring harness "spider" (I don't do wiring) but mine has never given any indication of a problem. One guy says that this issue "will" happen to all FJR owners so maybe I'll take my bike in before it expires in April and see how my dealer and Yamaha respond to it. If it goes well, I may do it again on the Super Ten.

If you have the money, it can't hurt. That said, I've had many Yamahas that have run 100% trouble free for my entire term of ownership so if I'd bought it on all of them, I'd have wasted some money.

It's been said before in this thread.... you don't buy insurance because you're going to "make money on it" - you buy it for peace of mind. If it gives you that, it's never wasted. Personally speaking, worrying about whether a recreational toy in my garage is going to need a repair I'll have to pay for is so far down on my list of worries, it might as well not even be there. So I don't buy the insurance.

My first MX bike (TM250 suzuki), the dealer says, when you walk off the floor with this bike that is the end of the warranty. I just looked at the YZ450F, Yamaha offers with 30 day warranty.

Never had a minutes problem with the TM250, tho I did blow up a piston, but that was nearly 2 racing seasons and I ran that bike hard.

I expect the S10 will be fine with 1 year warranty considering the way I will ride.
