I'm vaccinated and still wearing a mask in stores. I ask a nurse at the hospital yesterday if she had the shot. She said no. I ask her why not. She said it might be worse than the rona. Public here must be almost 100% vacc. I saw the biggest crawfish festival I've ever seen today. Thousands nuts to butts with no masks on. They were having a good old fun mini super spreader.

That meme is misleading because the Covid in India is just now starting to take off. As of today almost half of the new daily cases in the world are happening in India and India is accounting for 33% of the deaths world wide. For example, yesterday there were 12,153 Covid deaths in the world and 4090 of those deaths occurred in India while the UK had 7 deaths. India had 310,000 new cases yesterday and the UK had 2,000.

So, when the vaccine gets the final, full, non-emergency certification, or whatever they're going to call it. . . . what will peoples' excuse be then?

We need to take this Indian Covid Variant seriously. My neighbour caught it and has been in a korma for a week and he's only just buried his naan.
Apparently it affects the elderly and anyone who may have had a dodgy Tikka.
Prime Minister Boris Johnson has announced that due to the new Indian covid variant people will now be offered the Pun jab

India hasn't had the means to count their deaths, as most happen away from hospitals and the formal medical system.
Headlines in today's news about how many bodies are being found in the river mud flats and floating in the Ganges. Which people bath and wash in daily.

I would think that a lot of deaths go unrecorded. I witnessed an "Untouchable" caste woman dead on Howrah Station platform, back in 1998. She was covered with a cloth and the throngs of people were just wandering around her. Nobody seemed to take any notice and I assume that she remained there until another appropriate caste member dealt with the situation.

India has the advantage, if you can call it that at all, of having their wave arrive later than the US and some other countries. A lot has been learned about how to treat the disease since a year ago. This won’t reduce the incidence, but hopefully the mortality. There is of course also the vaccines now, but not sure about the vaccination stats in India.

I hope so.I haven't looked into the situation, but I read something about the hospitals being unable to cope and the usual govt coverup of incompetence.

Been in a number of places there and while they should benefit, they sadly won't.

It’s correct - the UK has the 17th worst death rate (USA 18th) but we’re doing better than Croatia, Poland, Italy, Slovenia, Belgium, Bulgaria and Hungary, amongst others. India has done extremely well as it’s 110th, so I’m not sure what all the fuss was a couple of weeks ago!

Texas has dropped below the 4% (3.9) positivity rate. Dallas has reported zero deaths for the first time in a year. (sometimes the weekend skews the results though) Media reports that 40% of Red will not receive the vaccine, nor will 40% of Evangelical Christians. I do understand not receiving the vaccine if you have legitimate concerns about side effects. I don't understand how red or blue factors in, and I only have a vague knowledge that some religions that have their beliefs about medicine/medical treatment.

Once again, trust it or not, the vaccine is working. . . . at least in the short term. I'll worry about the third arm when it happens.
