Cutting loose a super spreader that just came out of a high risk environment. Don't sound like a good idea. He'll probably go back to his homies and make another super spreader hitting on the pipe. But I see your point. Down here in the sticks where I live. They told a friend of mine. They have more vaccine than they can use. Sounds like the expected turn out may have been low. Nurse said some of it was gonna expire. They may as well give the leftovers to the crooks. Sadly prisons are the biggest employers around here.
Here is a chart on percentage of delivered vs used. The current administration, for its own benefit, is downplaying, and giving false information out in typical politics to make them look good, and the last administration bad. Although we have the supply now, and it is getting better, our problem is distribution. Sorry Biden, we are already giving out over 1 million shots a day.

I am not supporting any administration, this should not be political, but it is. And the best way to FU*K a system up, is to let politicians advise/run it. Perfect example is California. Why the hell can you not just treat this as one big group of people, instead of separating off race, religion..etc.

You need to deal with those who are most likely to clog up the healthcare system first or it’ll get over loaded and not available for everyone else.

OP: so I am a nurse at a hospital and I worked in the Covid unit for a couple nights to help out when we were filled to the brim with Covid back in March/April. I fully understand the risks of the disease. I also understand how important it is for new treatments to go through full trials to fully understand side effects and unintended consequences. The vaccines currently have emergency FDA approval. I am not an antivaxxer by any means but I don’t want to take any treatments that haven’t been through the full testing protocol. i’m 40 years old and don’t have any kids, I might want to have a child or two if I find the right lady. we don’t know if there’s any effects on offspring from this delivery system. we don’t know what the effects are years down the road either. so I am being hesitant in taking this vaccine. Granted I smoke ciggs and cigars and i vape, and I am type O+ blood. so according to some preliminary research I am somewhat protected from getting Covid for those two reasons. again we don’t know this fully yet, this is all speculation. I also don’t work on a covid unit, and rarely, if ever, have work related exposure to covid, and when we do have exposure we have plenty of PPE. I fully understand when people want to get it because because they are older, have chronic disease that places them at risk, or just because they want to. This is largely a personal decision for each of us. The radical left would immediately have everyone take the mandated vaccines to protect everyone else, and the radical right would say do what the fuck you want (including not wearing a mask nor taking the vaccine). I do not fall into either camp here. I think vaccines overall are a good thing but until there are long term studies on it’s effects I wont be lining up to take it.

As for handwashing and restroom use: well just handwashing in general... my microbiology teacher pointed out that the system of washing our hands after going to the bathroom fails because not everyone does it. For that system to work everyone needs to do it. Everyone needs to wash their hands after they sneeze touch their face or go to the bathroom, and that’s just not gonna happen. It’s a great idea but it doesn’t work. So he said he washes his hands when he first gets into the bathroom after touching whatever else in the world he has touched, he cleans his hands before touching other parts of his body, and doesn’t wash after. This was kind of a shocking revelation to me but it made a lot of sense because that’s when our hands are contaminated. so I make sure my hands are washed or at least sanitized with alcohol-based hand rub before I touch my face or go to the bathroom. And yes it is possible not to touch anything in the restroom, but the biggest point in breaking sterility is our awareness… No matter how much we focus on it mistakes happen and you have to be very vigilant, which I myself know I am not, and i work with sterile fields at work, so i do the best I can. after I leave the store, and before touching the steering wheel or controls in my car, I sanitize my hands. grocery cart handles, doorhandles, payment terminals, gas pumps, car keys, cell phones... these are all vectors. vectors are objects which can carry pathogens. be mindful about what you touch and how clean your hands are. the outside of our masks are considered dirty too, that is where the floating pathogens are sucked to, think of it like the dirty side of an air filter on our bikes... so remove your mask after cleaning your hands and only by the earloops/ties. I have to say I have not been sick since taking that microbiology course (6yrs ago) and keeping hand sanitizer in my car. back in April I used to do the whole sanitizing of my groceries routine... but now that just seems unnecessary and honestly it’s too annoying for me to keep it up. when I’m grabbing containers from the grocery store I usually reach to the back without trying to touch the box in the front… I don’t know how much difference it makes but it helps me feel better about having those items in my living room and kitchen.

i’m not sure if this helped anybody but that’s how I feel about it

So when they get released they become super spreaders and cause the deaths of hundreds?
Why should they get tested before free citizens?
1) If they are in the middle of having covid, transfer them to a hospital; we're already paying for their medical treatment.
2) They won't be sick, or contagious, for ever. Most people are only sick, or contagious, for two weeks.
3) Plenty of tests available.
4) If the free citizens have been vaccinated first, the prisoners can't be super spreaders.

Send that extra vaccine up here to Wisconsin. The providers claim they are ready willing and able to administer the shots, but do not have it. I still do not know of anyone who has even received their first shot.

Guys...way too much info about your restroom habits.

Yes. As long as we are aware of those two extremes we may make some headway as laypersons.

....so i do the best I can. after I leave the store, and before touching the steering wheel or controls in my car, I sanitize my hands. grocery cart handles, doorhandles, payment terminals, gas pumps, car keys, cell phones... these are all vectors. vectors are objects which can carry pathogens. be mindful about what you touch and how clean your hands are. the outside of our masks are considered dirty too, that is where the floating pathogens are sucked to, think of it like the dirty side of an air filter on our bikes... so remove your mask after cleaning your hands and only by the earloops/ties....

Here in the Philippines there is a requirement to wear a mask and a face shield. When my wife and I are both out and in close proximity to others we wear both and carry a 70% mister spray each. We spray our hands continuously, spray each other down prior to entering the car/getting on the bike and then prior to entering our house. All produce/deliveries are cleaned thoroughly before being put away. Masks are one time use and destroyed.

It seems like overkill to both of us, but I do not know if or how badly covid will affect us. I am currently doing as much research as I can to prevent any contagion and also what remedies are available and their effects.

I appreciate all the contributions on this post. Some have been very helpful, some shocking. Stay well and healthy all.

Ex cons tend to be from the radical right and won’t want to declare they are positive

Only when they are very sick will they have to go to hospital by which time they’ve infected our grand mothers

Can you imagine an ex con on release from jail stopping and thinking “I better get a test”?

It’s the period before the free citizens have all got vaxed that is the danger period.

Meanwhile, if prisons become covid hotspots, they will clog up our hospitals so we can’t use them

Since you seem determined that prisoners deserve preferential treatment. . . . what's your solution to the true super spreaders. . . . . the 18-30 year olds that party without any precautions, testing, or concern for anyone else but themselves?

Thanks for your information...lotsa sense I'd say...hygiene is, or must become a part of the western culture, sadly it is not....I remember one afternoon wife and I stopped at a diner in Michigan City, Mi., as I recall. I went to the can and I saw a guy exit a stall , leave the bathroom and by that time I was finished my pee and on the way to our table...I saw this guy March right back into the kitchen...dirty pig...wife and I got up and left, continued our drive back home to Canada.
Yuuuuk!!!

I assume he didn't wash his hands, and that’s nasty if you’re a cook

Prisoners don’t have any choice about social distance. Youngsters do. If they break the rules, prosecute them.

You are absolutely correct, he was the cook or maybe kitchen staff, we didn't hang around and bailed..
It happens more often than one can imagine.
Looking forward to the upcoming riding season...

The 1 million a day goal was announced over a month ago. We have only been meeting that goal for the past week. Now they are saying that goal is the floor, not the ceiling.

Distribution is the problem now as you stated. States are all over the board on this, some succeeding and some failing badly. Things are brewing to overlap this with federal assistance. i.e. FEMA mobile vaccination units, etc.

I saw a documentary that showed ventilators being sold on EBay and states bidding on them were pushing up the price hugely then towards the end FEMA started bidding on them and pushed the price even further! Surely federal government is supposed to step in to assist states with federal resources not become competitors?
