Finally used my Tenere for the purpose for which it was made....My first solo cross country trip.
This trip was started 5/20/2022. I was gone for 20 days total. I was able to ride 16 of those days. Overall mileage for the trip was 6089miles. The goal was to ride as little interstate as possible. I traveled less than 300miles via interstate during the entire trip.
Started in South Louisiana, rode across LA, and across TX (nothing interesting to see here) and into Taos NM. From Taos, I traveled across northern New Mexico and discovered that area is actually quite beautiful. I only knew of NM from the past driving interstates further south through the desert.
From Taos, I traveled across and into Colorado to Durango.
I didn't bother long in Durango as there were too many people pulling too many campers (weekend before Memorial day) so I continued on to visit a friend in Cortez Co. This took me 3 days to accomplish and due to heat and high winds and 3 days on the bike, my butt and back needed the welcomed break in Cortez so I took a rest day on day 4.
Day 5 had me traveling north to Telluride where the scenery is picture postcard beautiful.
Amazing how the landscape will change completely in just an hour of travel...
Ended that day's ride in Rangely Co...No pictures
Day 6 had me heading East from Rangely to ride some dirt into Wyoming. Last stop for gas before heading into Wyoming...
Wyoming was beautiful as hoped but quickly became disappointing due to poor weather late in the evening.
Unfortunately, the roads I wanted to ride in Wyoming were still closed due to snow and ice and I was running out of daylight so I had to find a place to stop for the night.
Setup my tent on this spot about 15 miles from the tiny town of Atlantic City Wyoming.
Turned out to be the worst night of the trip. Just after setting up and starting to relax, a thunderstorm developed and dumped rain and wind on me for hours. Then, just after midnight, wolves nearby (too close for comfort) made their presence known for several hours. When the wolves finally moved away from the area, a weather front came through and the wind started blowing so hard I that at first light, I crawled out of the tent, stuffed everything in my bag and rode back west to continue my ride to Idaho in 40+mph crosswinds!
