Took a 9hr day trip heading off road from the Four Mile area east of Buena Vista to Browns Canyon, Bald Mountian gulch, Ruby Mountain campground via fr300. The far east side of the trail was mostly hardpacked but very loose in spots, sand and gravel

You can see how soft the dirt is, the bike kept sinking in. Got back to it just in the nick of time before falling over.

After leaving the above spot I started down the canyon trail again, which was more sandy and gravel river bed than road. Picture the gravel section on the BDR outside of Buena Vista, but 2-3 miles long. I'm glad I had my new knobbie tires on. No pictures, but was very tired at the end of that section. This is overlooking the Arkansas river valley with the little town of Nathrop. Ruby Mountain campground is where the trail begins on the west side.

From here I headed down to Salida to take 185 back to 285 north. Saw a whole bunch of these guys

Heading to 185 I ran across this little town called Turret. It's an old mining town with very small buildings.

Back on 185 going north from Turret, I ran across some snow and ice in spots about 9500 ft on the shady side of the hills. The whole area is filled with very slippery when wet clay. After one snow section I had this pucker moment, when the back tire decided to go to the right when the front was going straight. I was just tickling the the throttle at probably 5 mph. The tire was digging in but not spinning going forward but slipped sideways. Very strange feeling when not power sliding. I didn't make it much farther up the trail, maybe a 1/2 mile or so, because it was closed until the end of April. I wish they would put signs up much further down the road advising so. So had to backtrack thru the mud and snow.

After the road closure of 185, I headed east on 175/cr2 . Wound up on a track called Herring park road heading north. Lots of ruts from people while the clay was still wet. Not much traffic thru this area. Passed thru this very large meadow, one of several, with no signs of humans except for the track.reize IMG_1864.JPGreize IMG_1866.JPGreize IMG_1865.JPGreize IMG_1867.JPG

This is looking towards Mosquito pass, almost in the center. I don't think it will be open very soon.

Likely for the last AZ ride this year. Heading back to boring IL. Rode with a KTM riding buddy. Switched bikes for a while. First time riding a KTM 1290, and a Recluse clutch. Plenty of power rev'd up, but I still love the low down pull on the ST. His setup was taller than my ST with the seat raised. I think more power than the ST would likely get me in trouble, and blow my tire budget. Bike is new to him, and he was not ready to go off road yet, altough I got him off a hundred yards or so.

Pshaw on y'all that says she's ugly. Not flashy, but purposeful. Looks like a pissed off owl from the front.

Went to Arrábida to have some fun and breathe some air - finally we’re exiting confinement. View attachment 79828View attachment 79829View attachment 79830View attachment 79831
thats great ... pleased for you.
I had a one-way ferry to Santander booked for ages, the intention being to do some of Portugal then up into France but cancelled it before losing too much on the ticket. l thought that both Spain and France would not be on the UK green travel list in time?
Brittany ferries will be overwhelmed with bike bookings when Spain & Portugal opens to Brits  :)

It might take a couple of months more to reach some kind of “normality”...
I had to cancel my trip to Morocco either. Hopefully next September/October (cooler) I can ride there.

Yep ... my plans have changed anyway in terms of 'where to' and going to hold out for a trip to Bosnia. If France opens up in June (dont think it will but maybe?) then I will go latter end or if not then late August / early Sept .... fingers crossed for everyone!
