I'm in Faro. It's 68 right now and I'm dying. Out at the mine site all day collecting water samples. Gorgeous day. Lots of snow and ice still, but going quickly. You boys behave yourselves while I'm gone. Back Friday. R

Just got back from Ironhorse, and for the first year in many, it was without rain! Met lots of old friends, and some new ones. It has been sunny, clear, low humidity and about 85 here. The riding has been great. Considering it's May, having low temps and low humidity is a real treat. The vstrom has been running great, and with a few more adjustments, I'll have it just right.

US Teneres will all be shipped in pink color. Yamaha management decided instead of waiting for the blue and black colors (which are the reason for the hold up) they would go ahead and use the readily available pink. This will cut lead times in half. From what I heard there will be a choice to order either your favorite Pokemon or Hello Kitty on the tank. Tru story. U heard it here first.

This weeks contribution to keeping you boys occupied while you wait for your bikes to arrive.

The dry weather in Perth Western Australia has finally broken with some drizzling through the tail end of the week and a substantial rain on Friday night.... Perfect forest ridin scenario

We (the Brown Brothers) had been organizing todays ride since returning from our last outing Thursday week ago and, after a midweek call from an old enduro race buddy,
ended up as a group of five instead of three. All capable riders and no slow-coaches.... Perfect forest ridin bunch

There was a good mix of bikes on today's ride with me on the behemoth S10, baby bro on the 450EXC katoom, older bro on the F8, and the two mates on their 300 2st ktm and 400EXC ktm.

Thankfully its my area knowledge and the tracked up gps mounted to the trusty S10 that keeps me out on point, otherwise the enduro boys would have left me for dead on some of the tighter/muddy stuff.
That said though, the mate on the 300 2stroke (once Expert level enduro - now Veteran) commented on his surprise at the capability and pace of the behemoth through the course of the day given the intensity
of the track's. Obviously my response to that was "mate, I can make a Honda step-through look fast,,, it's not the bike, it's the rider. Just keep an eye on my tail lights in the distance and gas it"
Honestly, I get more pleasure doing this type of riding on the bike machine as it takes a lot more skill and concentration than those little machines that weigh 107kgs dripping wet

We did around 145kms over five hours which included about 1.5hrs of lunch (at the Weir Hotel) and sufficient crap talking stops to keep everyone chuckling like little kids through the course of the day.
We also had to divert back to civilization to fuel up the little chook chasers about mid distance. We took in a lot of great scenery and observed a goodly amount of local wildlife, including some kangaroo's
that I nearly collected if not for being fully locked up. There was also an emu that lead the way down the track for about 100meters before ducking back of into the thick scrub, and quite a number of rabbits
that seamed farely detirmined to check my tire pressure.

We found plenty of water on the tracks and absolutely no sign of dust, and the (many, many, many) creek crossings are close to gathering water and starting to flow.

Both guys voiced their approval with today's ride and have registered keen interest to make it a regular (2>3 times a month) outing.
Next outing is Mt Dale, around 40kms as the crow fly's, but about 120km round trip taking the twisty route

Any way, on with some pics of todays adventure.

The crew - First smoke/water/bullshit stop about 20kms out.

Second stop.. Doesnt get much more scenic than this, perched on a rock above the water gathering vally's of the Mundaring Weir.

Some bikes verry similar to ours parked out front of the Mundaring Weir pub for lunch.

A group of locals (that actually looked a lot like us) sitting down to Rissoto's, Battered Squid, and beef and wine pies...
Pussies - Real dirt/adventure riders chew on a sandwich and fruit in the middle of the bush, not sit down to a pick your own full dinner

I am generally more interested in riding rather than pulling the camera out mid ride, but the boyz wanted a couple of pics at play..

Little bro's bike needed a rest as the afternoon wore on.

More bullshit!!!

I love getting this thing dirty

Chalk up another great day out for the boyz, and look forward to many more to come through the course of this years cooler riding season.

Hope you enjoyed as much as we did.

Greg.

The aftermath from yesterdays ride..

I went up to the shed today and contemplated cleaning the bike from yesterdays ride.
Turns out that contemplation was as far as I got but I did take a couple of pics to show the extent of the front suspension travel and the extent of the clean up at hand.

It's not so bad actually because I really do enjoy cleaning the bike but I started a bit too late today to do the job properly.

This pic shows 180mm front fork travel out of a possible 190mm. I have previously been within 1/8" of the full travel and can honestly say that I have never felt the forks bottom on this bike, and it gets a hiding 8)

It will clean up!!. It actually wasn't a particularly wet or muddy day yesterday and I have certainly had it dirtier before.

Next time you see it she will be all clean.

Greg.

Thanks Greg,

Love all your reports. You are one of the reasons I decided on the S10 so thanks for all your help. I have a question I am looking at the purchasing the Skid Plate and crash bars for the S10, Cant decide between the SW Motech and the ALTrider, If I go with the SW Motech I will save about $250 from a local guy. So thank again for all your help on this great bike and if any one has advice between the ALTrider and SW Motech jump in.
