Installed a Nomadic rear rack in the low position. I wasn't necessary unhappy with the stock rack, but this one is well made, looks beefy, and allows me to position the rack in the low position with the rear grab rails on: Nomadic Rear Rack

I like soft bags. I got a pair cheap on sale a while back. But taking them on and off and them getting dirty wasnt good. Managed to get a pair of cheap waterproof rucksacks that fit in them perfect so when i get where im going i can leave the outer ones on and clean them after the trip. Works great and less weight than metal.

Not sure this counts, but I ordered a ton of stuff for the bike ranging from maintenance parts to farkles.

Most excited about picking up a Graves manual CCT and having it installed when the dealer does my recall and valve check/adjustment.

Got a Boosterplug to see if it will cure the start from stop hesitation. I haven't plug it yet.
The box is generic (no part number on it) and no part number on the plug either.
Those are supposed to be bike specific, even year specific.
So how am I supposed to know I got the right one before plugging it on my S10? :(

Just removed the rear suspension linkages, except the one the exhaust blocks, to clean and grease the bearings, sleeves and bolts. I don't think I did it a minute too soon. One bolt did not want to come out due to white surface corrosion. Mr hammer was needed to persuade it out and that took some doing. Cleaned the bolt up and it slid back fine when everything else was cleaned and lubed. Had to use a tyre lever under the rear wheel once to sort out a slight misalignment when putting the dog bones back on, it was only a fraction of a millimetre, but enough to mean pushing the bolt in pushed the sleeve out the other side which is where I wasn't to stop it happening!

I'll have to look at loosening or removing the down pipes soon to get at the remaining bolt.

I received my (improved) oil report from Blackstone Labs. Previous report showed higher levels of fuel contamination. I suspect I briefly warmed the bike up in the garage, which did not burn off fuel contamination from start-up. For this sample, I rode the bike for at least 20 minutes per Blackstone's instructions (to address this exact issue). Have to admit, I was exploring the idea of either a Gen II S10 or even a R1250GSA. Instead, I'll keep on truckin' (Since I'll probably get asked, I run Castrol Power RS Racing 4t Synthetic 10w-40)

I put one on my bike a couple years ago. I will have to see if I still have the packaging and see if mine had indications of what it went on. I seem to remember it had paper work that said it was for my bike and year. I don't think the package had anything but booster plug on it.

Thanks, mine went in this morning. So far so good, it is toying with the perceived air temperature advertising it significantly lower than actual.
It seams to have cured the stumble at take offs in T mode. I didn't notice much difference in S mode.

I also got a reply from Boosterplug that the 2010-2016 unit is the exact same as the 2017-2020.
Which is kind of puzzling since they are selling them as two "different" devices with two different part number on their sites.
Including a notice to buy the one matching our bike year.

My 1st time I did the same thing. The second time, that final bolt was the worst. Once you drop the exhaust, swap the direction and you won't have to do it again.

Also i added a Booster Plug to the thing just to try it. I will say it has not solved all issues but the bike is so much better it is staying on there. It idles better but has not solved the issue of dipping to a low idle at times. But pulling out from that idle is way better and much more predictable. Roll on at any speed or rpm is much better and engine even sounds better during that phase of riding. Steady throttle at any speed requires just a bit less throttle to hold the same speed. Even the issues i had with throttle blips on down shifts are gone. I am definitely happy with both changes!
Where did you installed the temperature probe?

After reading what I can find about it ranging from (It's a Miracle! It's snake oil. It will melt your bike) and to be honest a much higher ratio of happy people who actually tried it than anything else. I installed one of those yesterday. The theory behind cheating the temperature sensor to enrich the mixture by +-6% across the board works surprisingly well on my S10. Tricky pulling off from idle was my No1 annoyance about the bike and it's gone/fixed. For me the Boosterplug is a cheaper viable alternative to a flash. Don't get me wrong. I'm not fishing for flash trolls here. That simple variable resistance link to the temperature doesn't touch the gazillion parameters that can be tweaked with a proper flash or ruined with a bad one if not done correctly...

How does the booster plug affect fuel mileage?

I wonder if one could accomplish exactly the same thing as the boater plug does by just relocating the existing intake air temp sensor outside of the air box? Zero expense.

Of course one would need to McGiver some sort of plug for the air box.

Where my finger is pointing that is the temp probe. It has served me well. No it isnt perfect but much better! Much easier to ride

No change in fuel milage at all. Well for me anyway. I suppose the original sensor could be moved and some what accomplish a similar affect. My booster plug makes the bike think it is 40 degrees cooler outside at any temperature. If you moved the air temp sensor on a 95 degree day it is still going to show 95 degrees. I have read of people doing it that way and having decent results though

Oil and filter + diff oil replaced today, also removed and inspected front pads and cleaned the pistons at 50,000kms before shop service last week.

Bike in shop last week for valve clearance check (all good) first plug change , air filter clean fork oil, brake and clutch oil replaced total NZ$700.

  • I haven't rode it enough to notice any significant change. Not sure if 6% richer translate to 6% increase if fuel consumption.
  • I don't know how you could subtract 20c from the sensor by relocating it.
I rode the bike one last time this season while bringing it to my winter storage location.
The outside temperature was around 4c and the temp display on the dash was showing -16c (16c below freezing point)

Quote from the Boosterplug site about fuel consumption:
"As the enrichment will only be effective under these conditions, the extra fuel consumption will only be aprox. One third of the 6%, so if your usual fuel consumption was 5.0 liter / 100 km, it will now be 5.1 liter. Still while maintaining all the positive effects. "

Nice! Mine went in the fork "well". At rest, this area catches a little engine heat as I can feel it when I put my hand over the well.
