I order mine from a local AutoZone. About $10 ea. but they do go the distance.
The correct spark plug would be C”P”R 8….I don't know what the final effect of a “projected” electrode will be…but if Yamaha puts projected, they should know something that we don't know

I’ve not tried them, but I’ve seen reports on this forum that the non-projected tip iridium plugs caused misfiring and or poor running in some cases.

I’ve not tried them, but I’ve seen reports on this forum that the non-projected tip iridium plugs caused misfiring and or poor running in some cases.

I've run 'em 40,000 miles so far, never missed a beat. They looked remarkably clean for 24Kmi when I pulled the last set.

Swapped out my Garmin Nuvi for a rugged Samsung tablet with locking mount. I got the idea after seeing the setup @PineLaneRider has on his bike.

I spent last night tweaking the tablet and removing a bunch of bloatware and other useless apps that Samsung loads. This freed up both storage and RAM, so it runs a bit smoother now. I installed a spare 64gb micro SD card, loaded some offline gps apps and set it up to work like a Garmin where it asks if you want to power off once you kill the engine.

All things considered I'm pretty happy. Way easier to read than the Nuvi and capable of doing so much more.
Total cost = $150 and a few hours watching tutorials on how to tweak android via an ADB terminal. Time and money well spent.

I see you're running DMD2. I liked that app, but it would lock out my BT media controller.
Do you know about the Carpe Iter bar mounted controller for DMD2?
I've watched some videos on it and looked on their website. It looks really nice and rugged but I'm not ready to drop $230 on a BT controller. I don't see me using it much since I usually plot out my whole ride ahead of time. Still, would be a nice addition if it were about $100 less.

What BT media controller are you using?

If you had an OBD output in the ecu (GEN2), you could put a wifi interface in the obd port, read the data from the ecu (temp, O2 sensors, rpm, vacum sensor, etc)…and see them on a device….
Now comes my doubt, to Gen1 users….I know that Gen1 didn't have an obd output, because the diagnosis was done from the dashboard. But...the fault codes that appear on the dashboard, "are digits"...if they are digits...it means that there is a digital network between the ecu and the dashboard (CAN network)...if you know the pinouts or the wiring of the GEN1…you could extract the CAN +/- signal….put a connector on it, plug in a Wi-Fi interface….and project the engine data on a tablet or phone (via app)…

We know that the first GEN2…had the diagnosis on the board just like the GEN1….The last GEN2, no longer had access to the ECU through the board, access to the ecu via the OBD connector…..that is…they took out the cables (+, -, can+, can-)…..to a connector, instead of those same cables going to the board…..I hope you understand what I wrote:cool:

Yup, Im following you. The DMD2 app I'm using has an ODB2 interface just like you described. I doubt that it would be possible to isolate and splice into the correct wires in a manner that would allow an addition of an ODB2 port... I've looked, but I haven't found anything. If I could dissect an early model Gen 2 then maybe it could be done... or maybe I'd just ruin two bikes.
Maybe a Yamaha engineer will join someday and we can pick his/her brain.

Installed "Grip Buddies" today.

I'm giving these a try.
I'm not installing them for any kind of vibration issue. Only because I have large "Bear Paws" and the factory grips seem really small diameter to me.

I had previously used the "Re-Grip" foam-rubber ones (the ones that come on the Yellow sleeves are the correct size) and I liked them, however after some time the surface of them started leaving a black residue on my gloves, and subsequently everything I touched..

The Grip-Buddies took about a week and a half, and arrived yesterday.

The Instructions are pretty clear and easy to follow.

I had to trim a slight sliver off of the throttle-side one so that it did not interfere with the Bark-Buster bracket.

They stretch around the grips nice and tight. I'm not concerned at all about them moving or migrating. The adhesive strip is plenty strong as well.

I'm planning a day-ride tomorrow, so I'll test them out fully to see how I like them.

I did the same thing. They're super thin, I think, because they're meant for finer control when holding the throttle like an ice cream cone instead of a whole fist. But I still added grip buddies and they feel excellent now. I don't even have really large hands, I wear a "Large" glove.

Currently out on the COBDR. Very little service. Wanted to say ‘in the moment’ that the Motoz adventure tires are amazing. The wear, the traction, so far- unbelievable. I’ll post some photos when I get back.
We road about 20 miles of sand today. Then moved back up into the mountains. Reached 12,500’ and then proceeded to come across many water crossings. Some are 75-100’ feet across. Several are deep. The tires so far have been Super Stars.
Probably going to be my new forever ADV tires.
That’s sounds like a blast! But I am a bit worried about deeper water crossings. Didn’t you get water in the final drive through the breather?

I know that on Jeeps that's an issue. People don't think about their axles when they go through water. It can get into the housing, but is not an issue if you drain/refill shortly after it gets in there. The problems start when you leave the water in there. Serious off-roaders run a vent tube from the breather up to the roll bars.

I'll be interested to get your take now that you've ridden with them. I have heard mixed reviews, mostly concerning the seam and whether it gets irritating or not. I could see me unconsciously playing with the seam while I'm riding and having it come unwrapped on me. I'm the dude that picks at scabs though so go figure.

Speaking of water, one other thing I did during my last valve adjustment, as recommended by ~tabasco~, was to remove two small drain plugs at the bottom of the air box (dirty side). There are 2 small plugs roughly 1/8". They are basically at the same level as the intake hole, but they are where water could be held inside the air box. Sorry, did not get a picture.

No. In almost 40 years of riding I’ve never had this issue. But, if a drop or two did get inside it would turn to steam in about 5 minutes due to the heat. It then would go out the breather. After a 1000 mile ride home, there would be no water. And I also change the fluids way more than the average rider. No biggie! The BDR(s) are awesome !
