Fitted these arrow headers to go with the oem muffler. Can’t finish the job due to waiting for a new gasket for the muffler joint. Investigated the recent weird throttle response and found that the heated grip had come unstuck and was twisting round without the throttle!!

Did it add much to your insurance for the headers?

Nothing at all. They aren’t interested unless they provide big gains in power, which they don’t. Had the same with my ZX14R. Put a full brocks system on it but insurance weren’t interested. But they did say if it got damaged in an accident they would only replace it with the OEM system. Which would cost them a lot more!!

Decided to flush and bleed the clutch and rear brake tonight. Going to do the fronts tomorrow.

I noticed at the bottom the clutch master reservoir that there was really fine black particle shmoo, the fluid was clean though.
I cleaned up all the shmoo with cotton buds. Weird that it was in reservoir. could not tell what was flushed out of lines as drain bottle had some old fluid in it.
Any Ideas?

UK insurers take the assumption that anything that adds performance means you you will use that extra performance, so are a greater risk. Not all companies are like that. The motorbike specialists I tend to find are more understanding and accept certain mods without any fuss. The general insurers don't like anything non standard and either give you a "f*ck off" price or refuse the risk. The other reason is if you have to claim for damages they will only pay out on standard replacement parts. Luggage is another area. If you don't declare it, in the event of a heavy crash you won't get any money for replacing it.

Interesting, I don’t think insurance companies here would be knowledgeable enough even notice. You can buy (and some companies include) additional coverage for accessories up to a certain amount but they don’t have any kind of specific list of what is or isn’t covered in my experience. For example my policy carries a $1000 limit for accessories. I could buy more but that’s enough to cover the panniers, which I think are the most likely to be damaged in a crash.

I suppose knowledge depends on the assessor and them knowing what standard vs aftermarket exhausts etc look like. It's all risk. Do you want to risk losing the value of your fancy exhaust if the bike gets written off? Do you want to risk having your policy made void through not declaring changes from the manufacturers specs? These are the things people weigh up when buying insurance I suppose. In the UK third party insurance is mandatory. Cover for replacement due to theft, fire and damage to your own bike and declared accessories is optional. If it is found that undeclared modifications or accessories were a material factor in the cause of the claim then you could find yourself up a certain creek without a paddle.

Having used an early finish last week to strip the swing arm and drive shaft I was pushed for something to do today to I fitted a tool box to the pannier frame. I'd been using a push bike frame bag to carry my compressor and puncture repair kit but it's not waterproof, I've had this a while but never got around to fitting it.

Is the caliper going to clear that alright? Camera angle is tough.

Yesterday was coolant, last of the fluid swaps. This winter was brakes, oil, gear oil and coolant, good to go for another 3 years I suppose, the old stuff looked fine, no obvious sediment.

I contemplated using a PMR for comms on my bike. What radio are you using?
I've got Kenwood under there at the minute, I've used Baofeng UV5R also which are great value for money. It's connected to a Sena SR10 that Bluetooths to my lid.

I'm a ROSPA tutor and only use it for that, that said it was great on tour last year when a few of us had them, range is huge.

I did mine a couple of weeks ago and you know what it's not as bad as you might think, having a decent tool kit helps to make sure you can get into the plug wells, I'd also remove the tank rather than just holding it back. YouTube is your friend, there are a couple of videos to have a watch of.
