Got the RAM Mount bolted on, Easy, easy, easy. Decided to snuggle it close for easy reah. I bought holders for both a fair weather Nuvi and a more rugged GPSMap 76. Swapping out takes two screws, but will be even faster with a second swivel mount.

I discovered that the Nuvi will accept touch inputs with my gloves on. Don't know why I didn't know that.

.
The RAM Mount allows cable access for the external antenna (which isn't necessary) and USB cable. THe Garmins both use the same power adapter.

I also popped in the little fuse for the clutch mod. Went for a 2 mile ride and tried to see if I could identify any change where I wanted it (which is very low rpm). I can say easily that the motor lugs better than before. I idled down to 8 then 7 mph and it pulled out quite nicely. I tried the same in 2nd, lugging down quite low, and it pulled out with nice hammering thumps. Can't wait to do a decent dirt trial and see if this is as simple a fix as it seems.

One of the things I liked about the KLR was that the gear ratio could be changed so I could go play with the rough stuff, This little mod seems to be a step in that direction. Now, if someone would just machine up a set of reduction gears....

Oh ... and is this just wrong?

Why does John's bike look so different?
I got rid of those hideous stock turn signals you silly!

Installed the Off The Road (OTR) goodies:
OTR LED Turn signals. Convenient in that OTR provides a replacement flasher so the singals flash at the correct rate not too fast, the signals, and fillers for the body panels in a convenient kit. Turn signals only. Not running lights.
OTR mini crash bars. Replacements for the stock bars. The rubber pads are replaceable. I've dropped the bike on the right side prior to this install with no significant damage to the bike other than the stock crash bar was scuffed pretty good. I'm not crazy about any of the available crash bars excpet maybe the TT units. These should do just fine for me and my intended use of the Super Tenere (I have a WR250R for serious off road work)
OTR ABS Switch. Again an easy install with the OTR kit. The switch is a bit confusing. "OFF" is actually ABS On. "ON" is ABS off. While riding you can svitch da svitch which will turn off ABS. Throwing the switch the other way while riding does NOT turn the ABS back on. It is necessary to turn off the bike for the ABS to reset. If the bike is started with the ABS Off (switch in the ON position) ABS will be disabled.

Also some photos of my GPS mount using some brackets I fabbed up to mount the GPS using a Touratech mount and the handlebar clamp bolts. I prefer the GPS in this position. No need to reach to the windhshield (as required with the mounts that add a cross bar to the windhshield mount - Madstad, Wasp, etc.). I can see the GPS while standing with a quick downward glance. The last photo is a cockpit view from eye level.
Also have a nifty holder for the iPhone.
I am probably gonna transition to a Garmin Montana in the next few months as a replacement for the GPS x7x series chartplotter.

After sacrificing my left side Jesse bag to a Moose in Alaska this past summer, I have finally replaced the box and am back to riding 'normal'.
You need to shim out those lower mounting points. The Jesse's don't sag like that.

Mounted up the SW-Motech Rack:

Added on the kit for mounting a Givi trunk and put on Givi TRK52N Trekker:

And some extra conspicuity tape as all that black in the back end just disappears in the dark.

Installed K60's friday,tried them for 2 days now.
Like them on the pavement and on the packed gravel but any thing
wet and they spin to much,and slide all over the place.
Got them off now to make some changes to the tire,will try them again tomorrow. ::022::

If by wet you mean on pavement wet, once they are broken in they are better in the wet. If you meant off pavement, you might like the tread design on the 140/70-17 better than the 150/70-17. It doesn't have the center rib.

Added fork protectors like these a while ago;

from Jaxon;

but took them off today to fit Shock Sox;

then replaced Jaxon's fork protectors;

In standard form the fork seals are not well enough protected for off-road / mud. I think mine are now. Overkill? Maybe. ::008::

$25 for a Shock Sox....vs. damaging those seals in some rather easy riding in the Yukon? There were several of us who wished we had this item prior to riding on those back roads.

Rebuilt forks will cost about $275...Sure wish I had the Shock Sox then. I have them now.

Picked it up from the dealership. They had to replace the axle and axle nut. Rode 90 miles on river roads.

What was the complaint? And did you feel it was addressed?

Early July the dealer replaced a final drive seal under warranty. No problems no complaints.

Last Monday was headed for a 4 day California Coast trip. I got a flat while on I-80. Slowed down, pulled to the side, took the next exit into a Chevron station. Plugged the tire and aired up. Pulled out of the station and the tire wobbled severely. Turned around and back into the station. Discovered the tire was damaged structurally and was out of round radially and laterally. Found a Cycle Gear that had a 150/70-17 tire. Rode 18 scary miles to the CG. Could not get the axle nut off the axle. Could only move 1/8 turn CCW (freeze) then 1/8 turn CW (freeze) and the nut was still 1/16" away from the housing. The threads are either cross threaded or stripped depending who you talk to. Was towed 71 miles home, 10:30 pm.

Tuesday 1:00 am: Sent an email to the dealer Service and Parts. Asked for the parts to be ordered and the Tenere to be picked up. Tuesday 3:00 pm: Checked with the dealer. The parts were ordered from Japan. Thursday 10:00 am: I asked the parts manager to find out when parts will arrive. Thursday 3:pm: parts should arrive Monday or Tuesday. Ordered a new tire. I asked the service manager to have the Tenere picked up on Friday. Friday 12 Noon: Tenere picked up. Tuesday 11:00 am: service manager called and said my Tenere was ready to go. Tuesday 1:00 pm: A friend takes me to the dealer. My Tenere is ready to ride. The axle had to be cut off! Paid $180 for a new rear tire and $25 for RnR.

Other than missing a 4 day California Coast trip... No Complaints

Wow, thanks for sharing the saga Tim. Glad it got addressed nicely, and too bad about the trip.

Replaced my left headlight bulb, (just burned out), wires do look a bit gray, but at 35k+ I opted to just use some dielectric grease and install a new bulb for now.

Also finally got around to installing a 4-way flasher set up. DPST toggle switch on the left side, brown and green wires tapped into and power thru a simple flasher from the PC-8 aux. fuse block, using an unswitched pin, so flashers are functional with the key off. Waterproof boot over the switch, but didn't really do anything to the underside of the switch. I may wrap it in wonder tape or something later, but needed to button things up for a ride tomorrow.

Received and installed the AltRider tail rack yesterday. The product was nicely packed, the hardware count was right the instructions were OK. It was a very simple swap, but if one were a complete non-mechanic the instructions could be a little lacking.
