Here is a video of everything I hauled up to Alaska and back and I go through and say what I wouldn't take next time.

I let my buddy ride the Tenere and I led riding the Goldwing? He needed a day on the bike to get used to it prior to the CPAAT and I wanted to head up 5 hrs North to Cycledude's house to get that RDL seat he decided to sell. So instead of the slab we went up the back way towards Monroe on 69 north through New Glarus, then 92 to 78 up to Sauk City took 12 outside of town and got on County PF (great scenery and curves) then county W west by LaRue (just outside of Baraboo) back to Cty D north to 154 west up to Reedsburg then Cty K up to 12 then Mauston and headed straight north to Medford. Started at 8 am. 52 and cloudy. Supposed to be beautiful all week. But clouds and a high of 57... until 10 minutes from Medford... then sun came out and 62 when we got there at 2:20. Headed south around 5:30 and took the Super slab home. Getting dark and less possibility of a deer hit plus Temps dropped to 54. We had a few problems but we worked around them. Riding buddy had his neotec helmet comms completely die just as we were mounting up to go.(As in red light and nothing is responding at all.) Then my wings battery completely died when Itried to start it. I had just charged it 2 days ago. I used my jump pack to start it figuring in 150 miles it would charge up enough to start it back up... nope! Got the jump pack out and did it again. Jumped it at Cycledude's house too. We went into town to eat before we left and I stopped by the Honda Shop and they had a Yuasa battery with 310 CCA for $151. That's a deal from a dealer. They put the acid in and charged it while we went two doors down and ate. Then went back and they loaned me the tools to remove and replace the battery. So good people at the Medford, WI Honda shop. Tenere ran good all day. Fork seals seem to have quit leaking as the rotors were dry and oil free after 300 miles. I will still change out oil and seals this week. Oil test kits came in for engine and rear differential. I will get those sent off this week too.

Came home tonight and started fiddling and moved my back bracket to the front. Bent another bracket to fit over the end cap. Getting better and faster on the 2nd one! Had several pairs of vise grips out to hold things in place while bending and drilling. Almost to the final product. Will do final adjustments tomorrow and then paint the tube and brackets black to blend in a bit more. Will carry a wrench in a pannier for opening it up as it can be tough by hand. Then Friday or Saturday I will take the rear shock out as my new spring came in tonight. When the bike is done I will clean it up and check all bolts. Then be sure I write down all tools that I use to do it so I can bring them along. Then it's on to doing an inventory of camping gear and clothing to bring along. Then start packingView attachment 102897
I measure the cap circumference with a flexible measuring tape I stole from my wife's sewing room. Then mark it at 0° and 180° I bend the aluminum to a 90° angle in the vise. Then I put the end cap in the vise in such a way that it is level and I line up the 90° bent AL at the 0° mark then clamp it with a vise grip. View attachment 102898then start to bend it around the end cap using it as a form. Beating it a bit with a ball peen hammer. Then mark the AL at the 180° mark and bend it to a 90° angle. Then do it again with another strip so I have my bracket formed. Just need to drill it after that. Using Vise grips to hold in place while drilling it. View attachment 102900

Didn't have a perfectly tight bend but it's close. Had some rubber gasket material on the shelf so I cut a strip and put it under the bracket/band. Had to reduce it to 2 pieces so the top and bottom of the brackets would come together. Very tight now and the rubber will keep it from shifting position. View attachment 102903
Will cut this shorter tomorrow. Measured for suspension compression clearance. Right at 8.5 to 8.75" and that's to close so I will shorten the rear bracket strap and it will raise it an inch. View attachment 102905
View of the shortening. View attachment 102904
Big old maw gaping open. Will hold a good amount of tools.
View attachment 102906
Slight rake back so tools settle to the back instead of against the opening. There is someone who is getting rid of a temperpedic mattress and I am going to cut some foam from it and experiment with compressing it and the stuffing it in on top of the tools so it will expand and hold them in place so they won't jar around.
That is it for today! Happy riding!

I made a 4-incher for my V-Strom a couple years ago; no way will it fit on the S10...

I did my first Brisket this year (on a freebie Traeger). Turned out pretty good.
That tube looks a little long to fit on the S10. How long is it? (No comments from the peanut gallery please!) A free Traeger??? You must be living right to get that! I just did my first ribs. Delicious!

Ya, as I said, it won't work on the Yam; I made it for a '13 Strom 650 w/OEM Pans. It'll go with the Bike when I sell it. I've owned two Traegers in this Life, and both were Gifts. SCORE!!!

Getting ready to ride the CPAAT across Northern Pennsylvania in mid October.
It took me almost two weeks to unpack the S10 then ignored it for another week while I exercised some other bikes. But I had to turn my attention to it. Ordered new SKF fork seals. The 43mm CBR seals are off by 1 mm so I couldn't use those. After that I took the front wheel assembly out and cleaned it up. Then removed the tire and put a new MotoZ Tractionator GPS on. Now it is sitting and waiting for seals. They can arrive between tomorrow and Monday. Then I will remove the forks and swap oil and seals. I also ordered some long Shock Sox. Either my current seals quit leaking or there isn't anymore oil in there to leak out. I also changed the oil and tomorrow the oil goes out for analysis. 13,000 miles on it. We will see the results. I didn't remember the oil change interval for this bike correctly. 4,000 miles??? Seems I haven't seen anything that low in quite a while. Hopefully the results will come back soon.

Was tearing the forks down to replace the seals... then I found out that I think I got the wrong seals. SKF KITG-43K Green.
Everything was fine until I tried to put in the retaining clip. Nope, not enough clearance between the seal as the green seals have an extra spring on a raised lip. Argh...
But... I am looking at the old seals and looking at the numbers on them. They are SKF Black.

That green thing is a protective cover. I grease it with Traxxion's fork lube made for this. Seals slide right on over the rough ends.

Thats strange as that's the number listed for them and thats the number Terry at Nor West suspensions has said are correct. Wierd! NOK is a different company IIRC.
Numbers on the black? Yeah, those are the old ones. Green is wrong.
I'm not to good searching. You have a link for them?

You might try contacting Terry. He's a member here and owns Nor West Suspension in N. Idaho. He will know!
No, I used the original spacers. Thst wasn't the problem. The retaining groove was at the right height.
The ones you replaced are NOK's not SKF's but I don't see why there would be an issue. The SKF KITG-43K are 'supposed" to be the right ones. If you can wait till Monday call Terry at Nor West Suspension since you already have the seals. He's done alot of ST's and is a member here though I see he's been off the site for a couple years. 208-561-5082. Jay, at Adventure Powersports who I was trying to set you up with could help too, but he's harder to pin down.

It says NOK on the old black seals. I'll call Monday on the SKF kit. Thanks. Everything fits but the retaining spring has those bump outs that are contacting the spring and mushing i to the rubber.

Ok, I just got on Partszilla and ordered new seals and dust seals. Even paid 3 dollars more for expedited shipping. I got tired of searching and I like SKF but that spring is not clearing the little spring on the seal. The first side I I put in it does but by the time I get to the other side that side won't slide down. Ohhh, I just had a thought! Take the spring off. Put the retaining clip in the put the spring back on! I will try that and if it works I will have an extra set in the drawer for me or one of you guys if something went wrong on a trip and you're near Northern Illinois. Going to do that now. I'll let you know how it goes.

I figured out the problem. I did have the correct SKF KITG-43K kit. I finally figured out that the seal wasn't seating all the way. Just a tiny little bit off so the retaining spring couldn't seat all the way. Separated the tubes a few times while diagnosing the problem. Finally spotted it. The upper bushing wasn't seated all the way and this was holding up the seal. Slid the washer/spacer down and got a long thin punch and hammer and tapped on the spacer. I could feel it mo e a tad then when I tapped it it sounded solid. I did it lightly all the way around then skid the seal down and seated it with my driver. No problem with the retaining spring hitting anything. I just hope I didn't screw up the new seal somehow...
Right now the tube is in my vise internals are in and fluid has been pumped into everything. But it was supposed to rain later today... so I started working on my fence repair before it rains... that's what I started out to do this morning but when I walked I into the garage the fork problem sucked me in and I couldn't escape the pull until I had it figured out!16956746962803321231819814324773.jpg

Back to normal programming now the fence and gate are completed except for staining but that's for after I finish the forks on the ST.

I wanted both upper and lower gate to be latched as I will have grandkids hanging and banging on it. Saw this chain in a drawer and it will open upper and lower latch at the same time!
