I don't have to buy any gear. ;D

My Aerostitch Roadcrafter one piece and my Roadcrafter jacket with Darien pant combo has served me well for the past4 years and thousands of miles. I already own a Shoei Hornet DS helmet same one the YAMAHA Super Ténéré model rider uses ;)
I'm in good shape too. My one-piece "stich" is about 13-14 years old and still performing well. Alternately, I wear Darien pants and a Hein Gericke jacket that work extremely well. I would like to find a good "air" jacket sometime.

Comment on the Alpinestar Scout boots. Earlier comment suggested a size down, I found them to be fairly true to size but Revzilla says they are slightly large. I would suggest going down if you measure a half size. The Garene G-Adventure boot looks very nice as well. It would be a tough decision if I were buying again. I have had good luck with Alpinestars, TCX, and Gaerne in the past. Have not been happy with the SIDIs, they are alright but the others have all been more comfortable for my 10d foot and have far better value.

Just a little FYI for anyone in the world that might stumble across this post, and they might be looking at that Klim gear..... I found out today that the suit has a life time warranty.. Some of the 2010 models and most of the 2011 models where recalled.. reason being is "there was an issue with one of the panels pertaining to water proofing"... they pulled it all from dealers... I'm guessing (on my part) it will be destroyed and all the new 2012 gear will be at dealers in January..... I called several places and confirmed the same story... If a vendor has this name brand suit, it was one that was not in the recall or its OLD stock..... These suits have something like a VIN number in them. (I guess,- I was told) I found one place selling the article.. I asked about ^^^^^^^ and then asked if it was 2009/2010/2011 gear... he said it was older gear they had... He was honest, but if I was a buyer that would kinda make me mad that I had a several year old version....
All three places gave praise to the brand and said that brand takes care of the vendors and the customers........ Shoot, I guess if I owned a Rolls Royce they would take care of me aswell....... :))

I've got all kinds of gear, but use the one piece roadcrafter unless really cold then use Olympia AST/warmnsafe liner and Firstgear TPG overpants. I just ordered the tan Darienlight jacket and pants since I like summer gear that is waterproof. I've used mesh gear and other (BMW Savannah/pants) but usually get really wet when summer storms hit before can add waterproof gear so decided to go with the Darien combo.

Oh yeah, after I get the Darienlight gear, I'm sending my RC in for the new waterproof zippers on the long (left leg and torso) and shorter right leg zipper. They charge $95 I think to do the zipper conversion but feel it will help the leaks I get in the zippers in heavy rain and extend my usage of the RC.

How about a review after you get them? I am very pleased with my regular Darien pants and have thought about the "lights".

I also am very pleased with my Darien AD1 pants, but have been considering an alternative to my Tourmaster Transition 2 jacket. I had been looking at the Darien Light jacket and also wondered about the Olympia AST. What do you think of the AST jacket? Is it vented well or is it too warm for summer wear?

Overall, I like the Transition 2, but it can get a bit warm in summer, in spite of some creative venting. I can travel with it and know that I will stay dry in rain by closing those vents, but if it gets over 90 degrees, it can get warm. Unlike the Darien jacket, the waterproof layer is sewn under the outer layer, so the outer layer will get wet and heavy in rain, even though I will be dry. However, I wish the Darien jacket had a mesh under layer in it for comfort. On the regular Dariens I had in the past, I used to wear a long sleeve tee because the lack of an interior mesh lining made it a bit uncomfortable against bare skin. I have a mesh 3/4 length jacket that I like for warm weather, but if I am travelling I would have to also pack a rain jacket to wear over it.

My idea of the perfect all weather travelling jacket would be a Darien Light with a sewn in light weight mesh lining. In cooler weather I would pack my Tourmaster Synergy long sleeve heated jacket liner.

It would be great if there was ONE "do everything" jacket for summer. Waterproof when needed - but still comfortable (breathable) and vented and/or mesh for when it gets really hot. I wear a Hein Gericke 3/4 length that has a fair amount of mesh, but just by virtue of the size/length of it - it is too warm when the weather turns hot. I remove the heavy waterproof/cold weather liner in the summer and simply use a light gore-tex jacket as a liner, which works reasonably well.

As for pants, I am very pleased with my AD1's. I wear top & bottom UnderArmour Heat Gear year around which makes all my gear more comfortable.

YMMV

I will have to look at the UnderArmor heat gear. Where does one buy it?

Edit, Google showed me where to get it. What particular items do you recommend?

Any good sporting goods. I think mine came from Dicks. You can also find it on-line.

Not sure if there are different versions of the heat gear line. When I bouight mine about 4 years ago, they only had one version in either long sleeve/leg or short. Mine are long sleeve and full length leg. They are easy for traveling as you can simply wash them out in the sink at night time and they will dry by morning.

EDIT
I see they now have 3 versions. Tight, moderate and loose. I'd say mine is closest to the "tight" line.

Will do. I've had a love/hate relationship with aerostich. I have loved my RC and hated it when it leaks in rain, so have to add waterproof undergear but with the new zippers it may be used more. I wish there was a little bit of a mesh lining in the darien gear, but I can wear a light wicking long sleeve shirt so should be enough. We will see.
