Sig P238 if in US, not if heading to Cananandnanda.

Otherwise, always, tire patch stuff and compressor, electrical wire, zip ties, tie downs (NRS kayak type), Gorilla glue, oil filter, crush washers and adapter, bike cover, disk lock, extra gloves, fuses, assorted tools including vise grips, electrical and duct tape, toilet paper, SPOT, pressure gauge, GoPro mounted on engine guard. More I'm sure as the panniers collect things.

What's a pay phone? :))

Seriously, if you're near a functioning payphone you're probably in pretty good shape emergency-wise. Most likely very close to a pub where you can sip a cold one until the cavalry arrives! ::003::

I'm pretty much with Vanderwho except for the rain booties (as stated by others).
I also carry a gas siphon and bungee cords. -JEP-

I put together a pretty good tool kit that rides under the seat, so it's always with me. I also stashed a good sized crescent wrench in the compartment with the stock tool kit. My panniers are on 99% of the time, so I always have a lock cable, extra gloves and a tire repair kit with the small Slime compressor. The other thing I always have with me is a USB dog tag; this has all of my medical and contact information just in case.

I normally carry mobile phone, puncture repair kit, a multi tool, cable ties, insulating tape, a few extra fuses. If I'm on a long trip a few 3/8 drive sockets and ratchet, first aid kit, a couple of spare spark plugs, some duct tape, small mole grips, a length of pipe to transfer fuel and jump leads. Although I do have roadside/recovery cover with RAC, I feel that by the time it would take them to get to me if in the middle of the Alps or Scottish Highlands I may well be able to fix the problem.

I've read some of the posts on here from our American friends regarding carrying firearms when travelling, I find it astonishing, I'm wondering how I survived several weeks travelling around that marvellous country ??? I'm certainly not anti gun, I own four shotguns, but for clay shooting and game shoots. I admit that when in the USA I felt a little concerned when I saw road signs warning of bears and mountain lions, and did consider what to do if my bike broke down. I decided that as I was travelling with three others I would trip up one of them up as we ran away, I mean, what are mates for if they can't sacrifice themselves for you? ;D

Lots of people packing heat, my wife and I are getting our conceal and carry this year (we already took the classes, just need to apply with local law enforcement).

I've found that carrying a well appointed, high quality tool kit wards off all evil spirits. I've only ever needed it to work on other guys' bikes. Tire repair kit, compressor, first aid supplies, etc., accompany me on all longer trips.

Whips, dips, chains – oooops, wrong forum…

Siphon, flat repair, tie wraps, water, granola bar(s), tow strap, first aid kit, 10 & 12mm wrenches, spring tool, electrical & duct tape. Just about everything I carry on my snowmobile, minus the extra gloves.

HA

Another Fox "news" creation which they got caught at.
http://www.washingtonpost.com/blogs/erik-wemple/wp/2015/01/18/fox-news-corrects-apologizes-for-no-go-zone-remarks/

We work with a French government agency in one of those areas and the neighborhood absolutely does "belong" to the locals. My mother in law lived in such a neighborhood in Germany, too. And note that European cities have a lot more ethnic groups than just black, white, and latin. For Fox to say that the police won't go to some "zones" is just untrue, and just like here, the police try to do "local policing" in which cops working a neighborhood are of that ethnicity. While the Charlie Hebdo shooting was not in a bad neighborhood, the cop executed on the sidewalk was a Muslim who had been opposing the extremists.

Those ethnic neighborhoods are not as bad as some inner city areas in the US and I do walk through from the Metro station to our French counterpart offices without the angst that you will have walking around a number of US subway stations.
