Newest addition to the family is a ‘42 Mosin Nagant 91/30. Probably nothing special in the states but legislation is difficult in the Netherlands and this took some time to become mine. It is a well used one with great history and 2 Russian marked refurbishments. One to the stock (later type, with different holes for the sling and a crappy paint job) and one to the mechanics (a rebluing, and a counterbore what I can see) It has great history and shoots very true. I use it as it was intended, bought 500 candy’s for the old girl.

Last weekend my oldest kid and his wife came over for a day of ratcheting. My oldest son wanted his wife to try out some different sized ratchets to see which one she could use best. The funny part is that today's generation can be referred to as the 9mm generation. 'Cuz apparently, .40 sockets have too much recoil. Said he could hardly hang onto my .40 Shield. We did determine that the 5.7 has less recoil than the .380. His wife and her sister were doing well from about 10yds with the 5.7 and almost as well with the .380. The 5.7 is going to be very popular once the word on how easy and well it works get out.

The 5.7 is something I’ve looked at- particularly the claims of the FN model but with Australia being what it is, I imagine that getting hold of brass and projectiles here would be next to impossible.

Yeah, I would think availability would be an issue. They're just catching on here. The big reason for their increased popularity is that S&W and Ruger are selling them for almost half of what FN Herstal is/was. And now that more people are buying them, the price of ammo is dropping which in turn makes them even more affordable.

I've got one of those exact Rifles. I have not attempted to research the history on it.
Mine came with the Bayonet also, and a box of surplus 7.62x54R.
I picked it up when I lived in AZ some years back, along with a Czech VZ-24 Mauser in 8x57.
I need to get those out to the range and blow the dust out of them!

Cool! The surplus steel case ammo is widely available and somewhat cheaper (300 for €90) but the story goes it is corrosive (the primer to be exact) I am not sure if it is true but to be sure I bought brass. €1.12 a pop…. Cough..
I am going to the range in about an hour from now, exiting. You should let them bark too!

Those lumber rifles got me to thinkin'. I don't remember ever showing off my wood. This ol' thing was part of the deal with my benefactor; (2) M1a and this M1 Garand built by Springfield Armory. $10.00 usd each. The bottom pic is kinda hard to see the Springfield crossed cannon imprint.

There’s this ‘thing’ in Australia that anyone who gets their licence all seem to want a Lithgow 303 (made here and used in WW2). For me, I drool about getting an M1 Garand but it would mean a different licence category where I’d need to prove that I have a use for it and my licence would need to be renewed every year instead of once every 10 years.
I started to get excited a couple of months ago as a bloke I know said he had an M1 carbine that he didn’t want anymore- but it turns out he sold it years ago and only had parts

I'd be in trouble having to show an actual use for it. This one has less than 100rds through it. Come to find out, this is a Delta version of the M1. Apparently, they took every gun and test fired them. When they came across one that grouped better than average, they pulled it off the line, put a 10x scope on it, the cheek pad on it, and made it a Delta; aka sniper version. I sighted it in for him and it stayed in his safe.

Two things that stood out to me was the lack of recoil and the mile and a half long trigger pull. The recoil is more of a push than a punch being that it's a heavy, gas operated gun. He explained that you don't want a short trigger pull when everybody's running through the jungle and the guy behind you trips over a branch. Yup, long trigger pull it is.

I've wanted an M1 for quite some time.
I missed out on buying one when they were reasonable.
They have skyrocketed in price, and maybe above what I'd want to spend...........................plus I'd have to stock up on 30-06!
Maybe that is reason enough to get one?

That's always been a big consideration for me on whether or not to get a gun; how much does it cost to feed it? The $10 purchase price also included a couple of hundred rounds of .30-06. And a bunch of the required clips. It isn't a practical gun, but it's satisfying to shoot.

As with nearly all ammo here, buying factory made is ludicrous in cost. I bought a Dillon 650 when I started and have done the various improvements thanks to 3D printing and now press most of the main stuff I need.
Australia is now in the HUGE predicament where there simply is not any pistol powder to be had.
Those who have it aren’t sharing (which includes me)
