I clean my bike fairly frequently because I enjoy doing so. Not from some obsessive inclination toward tidiness. I just enjoy doing it. it gives me a chance to wax affectionate with my bike. I would think no less of anyone for having a dirty/filthy/disgusting bike. Not at all.

I also shower pretty regular. I guess that's more information than you needed. R

There's nothing wrong with a few scratches, scuff's, and dents. If you dont drop it once in a while your no testing the limits.

On the subject of cleaning your machine: I could never understand how folks could leave their bike (or any machine for that matter) in a constant state of un-wash.
I actually find the washing and detailing of my bike therapeutic, but more importantly it is the perfect time to notice (and rectify) loose spokes, bolts, crack's, covers missing, fluid levels low, tire/rim damage, globes/lights etc...
As well as rectifying stains before it reaches a point of having paint and alloy surface damage.

With the right system and approach it really only takes a couple of hours to take any bike from this:

To this:

OK - Crank up the heat!!!...

Greg.
Well said Wasp, even if I don't get to it often(washing the bike - not a lot of water at my house), I agree fully with the preventative maintainance and the eye on the machine.

Wow, look what I started.

Just to clarify - I do all preventive maintenance to my cars and bikes religiously, I just get a little lazy with the cosmetics once the vehicles "ages" a bit. When they're new the get the shine quite often, but after some cosmetic wear sets in I always feel less compelled to be so diligent about it, which makes me happier since it's a bit less for me to worry about.

When I wrote the original post I was thinking of a certain family member of mine, who is a bit of a sports car fanatic. He once stopped down on a beautiful spring day, in his wife's Subaru. I asked him, "where's the Stang?" (he has a supercharged Mustang GT with lots of custom parts). He responded with, "it's dirty." "Dirty" in this context means dusty. ::) Sorry, but that's a little too much love for me.

I think you got a great bit of discussion going Venture, I am a bit guilty of making cavalier statments that don't clearly reflect my approach to life. Statements like "ride it hard and put it away wet" or "turn up the volume and rip off the knob" it does get the energy up for everyone and makes for stimulating discussion. Usually requires some clarification as the conversation evolves. ::) :-*

Maybe I'll go start an oil thread as well, while I'm on a roll. :D

Troll appears to be relatively harmless. I wouldn't be too concerned. R

Nope, nothing from Yamaha. I had a few third part items. I will have heated grips installed when they get them.

I just did a short ride this afternoon. Man, I gotta tell you. This boy has kick. I've been riding in Tour mode the whole time. So on the way back, on the highway, I pulled over and put him into Sport mode. Well Jay-sus beJay-sus .... I purt near lifted the front tire off the pavement. Seriously. Scared the pooh out of me. Talk about a noticeable difference. Then just a little later I did the same thing in some gravel. I'm purty sure the traction control kicked in on me, and I'm not an aggressive rider. Most impressive. R

Exactly! It's part of the bonding process for me. Just like the first time you remove all the tuperware and slowly learn where all the fasteners go.

May as well throw in tires while you are at it!

I used to wash the bikes after each ride. Now it's more like when they look a little ratty. Too many other demands on my free time nowadays, gotta prioritize.

Troll, did you order any fatory accessories and if so did you pick them up with the bike?

Rem, how about you?
I did not order anything until the bike was confirmed to Whitehorse. I then ordered Altrider stainless crash bars which arrived late Friday and I will pick them up tomorrow. When I swung my leg over the bike, I immediately went back in the shop and ordered the low seat. It should be here tomorrow as well. I plan on Yamaha heated grips as well.

Ain't that sport mode fun, and this thing pulls between 5500rpm and 7500rpm. Really smooth.

Riding the SupaT just gets better and better the more I get time on the seat. Just under 700km on the clock. commuted in to work today, a ride I have done a lot on my Harley. All I can say is I am sure glad that I bought this scooter and I am glad the Harley sold on Saturday. This is a wonderful motorsykle, it is sooooooo smooth (remember I am coming off a Harley), it doesn't matter what rpm or speed I can look in the mirrors and see clearly down the road behind me. It is calm and composed, very managable torque and acceleration. You guys that are waiting - hang in there, this is a bike worth having. No kidding, this is an awesome ride.

I see some other Canadian lad has beat me to pictures of the Altrider stainless crash bars - I pick mine up today and will post some photos after I install them. 8)
