I was at a Honda dealer this weekend for a Ride for Autism. The manager saw I had a Tenere and told me about some new tires they just got in that they were recommending for the Tenere and a few other bikes. He was talking about how he wished Honda would come out with an adventure tour bike like the Tenere. It got lots of looks.

The tires look worth considering, especially for wet roads due to their siping. Michelin Pilot Road 3 Trail.

I am sure it is a great tire but it sure looks like a 98% road tire to me. Makes the Pirelli Scorpion Syncs on my Multistrada look aggressive.

That was my initial reaction as well. But the little horizontal lines are tiny jagged (but precise) cuts in the tire. They offer excellent traction in the snow. We see a lot of tires like that up here. I don't know if they would work on gravel or not, but I bet they would be good in sand. I would like to try them, if I didn't have to pay for them beforehand. I put on the Heidenau[ that I picked up in Fairbanks] to go on a ride this last weekend an it changed my Tenere into a real dirt bike.

That is a hoot, but I took my brother over Cottonwood Pass last month. He rides a 105th aniversary Screamin' Eagle Ultra Classic.

On a serious note, I am actually pretty pleased with the Battle Wings. A little past 8000 miles and not quite toast yet. I am not a serious off roader, they did fine on a few hundred miles of gravel last month. No sweat at all on twisties. Been drier than a popcorn fart, I have no idea how they do in serious rain.

I am going to go get another helping I think..... Unless anyone has any FHE on the Anakee vs the Battle Wing? The Anakee has a very slightly heavier grooved tread, seems like it might be slightly better in gravel and not very deep sand on gravel?

Interesting change on the Soft-Hard-Soft distribution on the rear tire. This could be a very good tire for those that do not plan for a lot of hardcore off-road riding.

Sorry, but with 3 tires in the discussion, which do you mean?

I have the stock Metzler EXPs that came on the bike;

Over the weekend did 200 miles on gravel, dirt and mud (up and down hills and with full twisty's) as well as tiny country roads; The tires worked fine...great grip on pavement (wet and dry) and dirt/mud...good traction going up hill, though the bike is a bit loggy over deep ruts.

Ride was fine on hard pack gravel roads...got a little caterfunky on the loose/newly layed down gravel...like riding on marbles. I was with a group riding 250s and KLRs all with knobbies.....I kept up with them just fine.

When I kill these, I'm going to replace them with the same.

I got 9000 miles out of my rear Battlewing and probably had 1000 miles left in it when I changed. Great in the wet. I changed to Tourance EXP and almost immediately I fell in love with the handling it gave the bike. More immediate, natural turn-in and feeling at all speeds is my big take home. Also feels solid in the wet. Interestingly I don't feel anything like as much of that strange pulling/wobble effect when going over ruts or unevenness in direction of travel I was getting before I changed the rear which is strange because I assumed that it was the steering being affected on the front. I still have the original Battlewing on the front.

Picked these two up from my local dealer I purchased the bike from that is closing their doors at the end of the month. Kind of sad to see them go. :( Economy, weather, any number of reasons I guess. Still seems to still be a regular occurrence these days.
Used the Heidenaus on our ride to Inuvik in 2010. They worked very well on the Vee and hopefully just as good on the S10. No excuses now for the gathering in Whitehorse in July, might even make the attempt at the haul road if time allows. ::008::
