based on the map, we here in the NW could find a central location near ID, WA, OR border to have the people from Seattle, MT, OR, ID, and Northern Cali come for a meet.

Montana or Colorado would be awesome. Rod could use his car instead of the Tenere. R

We should all put together a Super Tenere gathering that is maybe part of the TAT... If not maybe have the meet somewhere close so a group could take a day out and do a few hundred off road, and the ST guys that want to do very little off road in this 'state' could go explore on-road......

Myself, I would like to do major off road... I dont mean death ride or hard nasty stuff,,, just being off the tarmac.....

And I would like to camp at the meet myself.... So when and where we do this we can camp and motel to accommodate the most ST riders.... Ive seen many of the BMW GS meets are 100% camping....

Yeah, me too. I can understand exploring parts of it, but don't think riding the while thing appeals to me much. For example TinCup pass in Colorado. The one and only time I was on it, I was on a Honda TransAlp and I cannot even imagine trying it again on something as large as the SuperT. I'm sure others will chime in and say "no sweat", but for me, it was a real challenge at the time.

Given my advancing chronological status, I should probably focus on developing a TCT ... Trans Canada Trail ... that is made up of only pavement .... no gravel. Could also call it the Timeworn Codger Trail .... restrooms every 10 miles, diners at hourly intervals, abundant ambulance stations. And a Honda dealership in every town.

I'm gonna get right on that, as soon as I install that air piston seat and cruise control. I love having a project that pushes the envelope. It will help me maintain that mean, macho sumbich image that I have developed over the years. I'll keep you posted on my progress. R

I've been working on that as well. Similarly speaking, I caught about the last 30 minutes of the movie "Wild Hogs" last night on TV. A real classic!!!!! ;)

I spoke with my Yamaha dealer today about sponsoring a Tenere gathering next year or at some point in the future. Most enthusiastic about it. The dealer would and he felt Yamaha Canada would as well. For what it's worth at this early date. R

Cool!!!! Perhaps it can be scheduled to coincide with my trip to AK next year (or my trip can be scheduled to coincide with the event). How does July or August sound?

Well, it sounds good to me as of right now. I guess you guys (forum officials so to speak) need to determine how to decide on the location, and if you pick a site for an "official" gathering and it turns out to be here, I'll get on it forthwith ... and right away, too. I'm not sure how many people would be willing to come up here for that, but if this is the spot and if we can get a tentative commitment for attendance, I'll certainly start to look into it. If we can get Yamaha on board, I can probably get YTG Tourism and maybe the City of Whitehorse involved. No reason why not. Anyway, let me know what you decide. I'm your dog. R

p.s. ... there is no dry season. June - August .... some years are awesome, some years are kaka.

The "forum officials" is really ALL of us!!! All the members here will be offered the same chance to take part in the selection of the date and location. Early talk was to try and have an event in Canada one year and the US another - really does not matter which location happens first.

I think a weekend in August next year. Hard to say.

I guess as with anywhere, the weather up here is very sporadic. Well, we have weather all year, but good and/or bad weather is hard to predict. We had an absolutely magnificent summer last year. Awesome. Got up into the 80's. This year so far has been mostly crap. Weather forecasts are totally useless. Generally speaking, you don't want to be here much before about June, as you may have trouble getting up over some of the mountain passes before then. And you want to be gone by end of August for the same reason. This can vary greatly, but generally speaking. The average riding season is very short. Mid-June to Mid-August would serve you well for the most part. But you could freeze your butt off or drown like a rat at any time. The spell of the Yukon. R

OK, well, maybe if we can get an indication of how many would be in favor of this, and it's generally agreed on, I'll start the ball rolling from this end and see what kind of interest I can generate here. It's not too early to get started on it. It's just a hop, skip and a tour up to Alaska from here ... two different route. North and South Canol roads. Atlin. Skagway. Haines. Keep you boys busy for a while. Let me know.

I'm off to Alaska Saturday and back the following Friday. If it looks like a go, I'll start hitting organizations up and see what shakes out. R

I'm off as well Saturday for my ride to Nelson BC. Not sure when I'll be back but probably the following Saturday (or Sunday) I expect.
