So....ridden anything lately?
It warmed up enough and the rain flushed the salt away so I had a chance to put a few more miles on it last week, still a bit gun-shy until I get that rear scrubbed in. Looking forward to a decent length trip asap.

Sssshhh, don't tell eemsreno but even though I've "moved on" I'm still going to hang around and troll....I like you guys! Those guys over at the orange forum are too pretentious. ;)

Why do people feel obligated to point out bad things about KTM?
Early KTMs had some really bad reliability problems, many of which were either fundamental design issues to get highest performance (less design margin). They also tended to have incredibly short maintenance intervals because they were race bikes and they would break if not tended to correctly. I had a couple.

That was over 15-20 years ago and the bikes of today have none of the issues those bikes did.

Glad you got out some.

I never found a worthwhile KTM forum. This board is more of a place where friends meet, regardless of what they ride. Heck, I was here when the board started, I imagine I'll be here when they shut it down. I don't know if my next thread about the upcoming 890 will be singing praises, or the blues.

Regardless, us former Tenere riders do what we can to make the Other Bikes section informative, and yes, sometimes incessantly positive if we just can't help it. I'm guilty as charged.


So, what caused the fire? Was it the leaves that got hot and combusted?
I see most speculation going towards an initial leak in the hose between the two sides of the horseshoe tank. Hard to imagine dead leaves would help put it out. Others speculate laying the bike on its side likely added more fuel to the fire.

To be honest, stuff like this reaffirms my personal desire to buy a bike after it's been out for a few years. Manufacturers do a huge amount of testing, but can't find everything. My early Teneres had a couple of recalls and a cam chain tensioner that were all addressed in later years and updates of the bike. My SAS is the last year of that particular version and my future 890 is expected to be more tweak than redesign. I like it that way.

I watched so many 890 videos lately that I had seen that one.

Can't imagine the sinking feeling you'd have watching your bike burn.
It belongs to the insurance company as soon as the fire gets going. Break out the hot dogs.

I happen to own TWO KTMs and think both of them are the best bikes I have ever owned in their class. As a matter of fact I feel my 125SX is made so perfect that not one thing on it has ever been out done by another manufacture.
I'm also very interested in owning an 890.
This just happens to not be the forum for it. It's like going over to a BMW forum and ranting about how great the Tenere is.
If you have moved on then move on.

Yes, that advice from my flying days definitely went through my head watching the bike burn. If something goes wrong, remember...you're now flying the insurance company's airplane. Don't worry about protecting their airplane, think only about protecting life and well being. It's great advice.

That makes as much sense as anything. I can see leaves getting hot enough to light, cats have been known to light grass on fire, but there shouldn't be anything down there to make the flame grow. A leak could add fuel to the fire . . . . literally. Laying it on its side definitely didn't help, but the fire was burning well by then.

I suppose I should pack my things and go. Reason I stayed was the camaraderie. Seems the forum has evolved beyond the S10 same as ST-owners forum evolved beyond the bike which is a good thing.

Yamaha last updated the Tenere 9 years ago. Most issues are known and already addressed somewhere on this forum. If the camaraderie doesn't keep you here, not much reason to stay beyond getting an answer that was created 8 years ago.

I bought a S10 from a guy who bought an 890 coz th S10 was too heavy. I get that. The S10 is a road bike. I think I'm shopping for an old KLR thrasher this year, for the trails

Can't go wrong with a KLR. I feel like I was late to the party when I got an '11 as a winter bike this fall. I'm enjoying the heck out of that bike.

Last time I checked the title to this web site was still "Yamaha Super Tenere" and until Venture changes the title it would be nice if users still remember that.
I sure don't want to see riders no longer on here just because they ride another brand, that's their loss. I for one still believe that the Super Tenere is still worthy of the "Super" in its name and is still the best all-around, do everything, big Adventure bike on the road today.
Look at riders like "Big Bob", he has moved on to another bike, but I don't see him on here saying the Tenere is out of date, and we should all be riding Ventures.
TNWalker is another great example, He has moved on to many different bikes and gave us good opinions of some of them bikes, but I haven't seen him trying to convince me that my Tenere is out of date and I need to ride the same bike he does.
If some day, I'm the last rider to still be riding my Super Teneres and everyone else has moved on to inferior bikes, I'll still be trying to convince others just how awesome a bike it is. But not on a KTM , Triumph, Or BMW forum. Hopefully still here on the "SUPER TENERE FORUM"

Wow....have yet to see anyone on here "trying to convince you that your Tenere is out of date and you need to ride the same bike they do". Maybe I missed it?

Loved mine, agree with your description of the S10, wish I could have kept it but the "new bike bug" was just too strong and can't justify having both..

I am the type of person who buys something and uses it till it isn't worth giving away much less selling or trading in. I am very pleased with my Super T and I am sure it will be around many more years for me. it does it all for me and is my pick up truck of bikes. On the other hand I love all motorcycles and for one, I am happy to have members with other bikes on here giving experiences and opinions on the bikes they bought. I really like to know about all brands and how they work and hold up. O.K. I can live with someone saying that the Super T wasn't right for them doesn't change what I feel about mine. I really like that we can have other bikes and opinions on here even though it does say Super Tenere Forum.

Don't believe I have said anything bad of the S10. Owned 2 and enjoyed them. I like my KTM. I don't care what anyone else rides and don't expect anyone to like a bike just because I do. Being as my views have offended some I believe it best if I take a leave from the forum. Over and out (which I know is incorrect radio jargon)
