It's mostly the bikes to which the are attached. Bike that are limited to pavement frustrate me. Plus, I have to admit, I'm a needy guy. I only enjoy bikes that need a skilled rider to ride them at a high level. My experience with 17" bike, such as the FJR, or even my FZ1, is they are too easy to ride. They don't need me to have sharp skills to go fast in the twisties, heck, they don't need me at all. Which only forces me to ride faster. I'm not about high speed, I'm about high satisfaction. I find 19" fronts to require more skill to ride at a high level. It's more challenging, more interesting, more gratifying, more rewarding to master a 19 inch. At least that has been my experience. What is it about a 17" front wheel that you don't like?
The times I have followed you I was awake and happy when we were done!I'll never claim to be a fast rider. But as far as I can tell, those who have ridden with me don't appear sleepy at the end of the day.![]()
Once again, I look at things just a little differently. I want the bike to be easy and predictable. Because traffic isn't. When the doody hits the fan, and I have to pick an escape route . . . . I want easy. Just one less thing I have to worry about.. . . . is they are too easy to ride. They don't need me to have sharp skills . . . .
I never (almost never) ride for transportation. All my riding is recreation, so I rarely deal with traffic.Once again, I look at things just a little differently. I've ridden very few 17" bikes. All of them were useless or at least undesirable on a dirt road. When I come upon a dirt road that looks interesting and I don't take it because of bike limitations, I end up getting a bad attitude about that bike. That is at least 50% of my dislike of the 17" wheel bikes.Dirt-Dad when I went from a Multistrada to the '15 SA the first thing I noticed was how easy the bike was to ride fast. No drama always seemed like I was going slower than I was especially in the twisty stuff. Bike was just easy. I don't think wheel size has much to do with it. I have ridden bikes with 17" front wheels that were so good that they put you to sleep and the '20 SA R/S is the same way. I've ridden bikes with 17", 18', 19" and 21" front wheels that terrified me and I prefer never to ride again. All comes down to how the whole package works and what you are comfortable with.
I always considered the 172 as a good reason to give up flying. Owned a Super Cub and could never see the reason to fly in a 172. Rather take my truck.
That's funny. One of my minor disappointments with the 890 is I'll have to deal with a key again. It's a great bike even if it has a fob instead of a key. I like the 890 more, it just puts a smile on my face every time I ride it.
Jealousy? Why do people feel obligated to point out bad things about KTM?
I think that rather than saying something bad about KTM, it would be good to create a Thread about which is the best portable fire extinguisher….I happen to own TWO KTMs and think both of them are the best bikes I have ever owned in their class. As a matter of fact I feel my 125SX is made so perfect that not one thing on it has ever been out done by another manufacture.
I'm also very interested in owning an 890.
This just happens to not be the forum for it. It's like going over to a BMW forum and ranting about how great the Tenere is.
If you have moved on then move on.
