I'm glad they will take the motorcycle another year. There is no other motorcycle that can compete for my use at least.
My sentiments exactly. I am a relatively new ST owner and the more that I ride the bike the more I want to kick myself in the ass for not buying one sooner. If they were to discontinue the ST I'd seriously consider buying a brand new one and mothballing it for future use.

I love my 13 Tenere, but lets be honest. It is a 98 HP , 1200cc bike that weighs nearly 600 pounds. It is a fantastic ride and really performs great after a reflash (i have a 13) , but with the competition blowing it out of the water in terms of performance, I cant see how they will sell many at $15500 or whatever US retail price is now. I would just buy a KTM at that price, and the only thing I would miss about the yamaha is the shaft drive.

why do I own a 13 S10 then? because at last years blowout prices, it was the best ADV value ever in the history of ADV bikes and for the roiughly $8500 it cost me to buy it, I could not fathom a better bang for the buck. but $15500? uh,. no
The older I get the less I get performance comparisons, it is not like you are going to be racing the damn thing. In all reality people should be looking at how well a bike fits you and your needs.

The KTM might blow the Tenere out of the water (performance wise) but how will you feel 15,000 miles later when the KTM is sat at the side of the road needing a top end rebuild?

I get the sentiment Shrek, but I have to agree with the poster above here (I lost his name). I absolutely _love_ my Tenere. It is my favorite street bike I've ever had by a comfortable margin, and I plan on putting a six figure amount of miles on it in short order. That said, I bought it used during the time this guy bought his for $8500 - mine is a '12 and I got it for $6500. For $15,000 there is absolutely no chance I'd buy it...just not worth that much money IMO. If that were my budget, I'd be looking at KTM, Triumph, or used BMW. This isn't to say that your viewpoint isn't valid; in fact I've said that exact phrase before (you're not gonna race the damn thing) when asked if the limp motor bothers me. Hell, I like the motor. But, facts is facts, and one of the things that's fun about a motorcycle for me is that it's fast, so if I'm dropping $15k on a bike, and there are alternatives that make 35% more hp, have more sophisticated electronics packages, and are otherwise competitive comfort and feature-wise, I'm leaning in that direction.

Since you bring it up, that's funny while I normally would not admit to subscribing to this kind of idea,... I was thinking of exactly the same thing on one of my last rides. I'd want to keep it sealed up in the original crate and open it up a decade later when everything from the future turns in to a full electric computerized motorcycle of sorts. The good old Rhino may be come a classic beast of the past, and as long as we could still get proper fuel for it by then, it's kinda fun to think about.

I'm really glad to see that Yamaha has it in the lineup for 2017. Now in 2019 when the YES warranty expires on my 2013, I'll be able to pick up a new leftover '17 for about $10,000. Looks like most of the farkles will fit, so I won't have to buy them again.

This is exaxtly what I'm not looking forward to in the future of motorcycling. I like EFI and ABS(not totally), but that's really as far as I wanting to go. Obviously, progress is at a rapid pace in the motorcycle industry, so I'll either have to keep what I have now as long as I can or throw in the towel. I think I'll keep the towel for drying off my awesome '14 Super Tenere (non ES) and my '08 KTM 990 ADV S (non ABS.)

Cobalt Blue and Desert Sandstone

Bold new price too. it went up $9 from the 2016 price.
WOW! Again Europe get S**T colours! Where is the Sandstone for EU? Every other manufacturer has really good ADV bike colours, like the Forest Green (Triumph) Desert (Suzuki) not to mention BMW. The Cobalt blue is only available in the MT09 Tracer. C'mon Yamaha, get it together, we in the EU don't just want black or white, both of which I f***ing HATE! Ontop of that we get reemed with the pricing too. ::009::
Phew! I needed that.

you notice that bike in the photo has a skid plate, which looks good and crash guards, but when you look at the specs, they don't show those items. the fully equipped model. ::021::

The bikes also have panniers installed and one has the PIAA lights as well. It's common to exhibit bikes with optional equipment installed. Yamaha want's to promote the accessories too!
