Lads...is this an off road ride - or a tarmac ride??

It's a "ride-where-you-want" type of ride, so you can, uh, ride where you want. ;D From what I've gathered so far, we'll probably be meeting as a group for breakfast and then ride in smaller groups depending on where folks want to go.

I'm not so familiar with that area, but from the pics I've seen there looks to be some country roads, some trails with varied surfaces, and some hardtop. I'm sure there will also be some hilly areas (elevation is around 1800 ft), so there may be a few twisties and some great photo ops.

Combo, did anyone ever get a headcount? If so, include me, as I now have the "all clear" from the powers that be. Unfortunately I'll have to leave Sunday instead of Monday and I won't be able to camp, so I'll have to find a hotel in the area. Gots me some plannin' to do...

You have plenty of both paved (great twisties) and dirt. The National park has around 70% paved and 30% dirt but that 30% dirt is a lot of dirt. This is a very large park. Better have a full tank and keep an eye on it.
The State park has almost 100% dirt/kinda small rock ??? roads and trust me it is large enough to get lost. 170 between the two parks is one of the top paved roads in Texas. It runs the river all the way. ::013:: Checkout the map.

Not sure about a head count of Tenere folks yet unless they post here. looks like 3 or 4 right now. When it gets closer to takeoff all that are going can PM contact information including your location at Big Bend to me and then I can send it to the Tenere gang that's going. ::018::

This can also be a safety issue with emergency contact number, not that anyone will need it but just a good idea since we may not know who will be riding with who each day.

There's some great info there, and though I am not affiliated or associated with that site or the gentleman who runs it in any way, I have to say his books and guides are *EXCELLENT*!

His "Big Bend Ride Guide" is well worth the $25 just for the maps that come with it, though his knowledge of the various dirt roads and tracks is truly invaluable. I heartily recommend it.

Good info.

I have met Richard a number of times. Did the TAR 3 times now. Cool guy and does a great job with the ride guides and putting together adventure rides.

Hey y'all, I think we got a few Houston area and other Gulf coast folks headed to BB in only 2 1/2 weeks or so...does anyone want to get together for breakfast or lunch on a Saturday to talk about what we want to do out there, compare trail tails, or maybe plan for a few folks to get together for the ride out and/or back? What do y'all think? Anyone and everyone is welcome to join in, even if y'all can't make the ride and just want to check out some other Super 10's! DFW folks too...come on down!!

I dont think I can come down to Houston for the meeting but I will be in BB for the group ride.. REALLY looking forward to some JEEP type trails off road. There are a ton of them out there ! Shoot me your number or Email and I can contact you this week. I would like to take part in the rides for sure ! Where is your group looking at staying ? Camping, hotel??? Thats a good idea. I think lunch one day may work out for those that want to meet. We all could plan our route for that day to meet at lunch in a central location once we know more about the camping location of the folks that want to meet. I picked Cosmic Kathy's for the AM, but if that would work as a lunch location one day then cool. It is close to Big Bend and not far from the State Park.

it is reported on TWT that Kathy's in now closed. you guys have fun wish i could go.
