Dallara got the super hook up mega data bank on the Big Bend ride...... He prolly dont even look up the info... got it all memorized !!!
I only wish I had it all memorized, but no way my feeble brain can store stuff for any length of time these days! :-[
But I can remember where I am when I'm up there, and don't get lost anymore... much.
Honestly, I went up there once years ago to ride - my first time - and I was hooked. It is really hard to describe the austere beauty of the place. Probably has a lot to do with the near complete lack of civilization, but there really is something magical about Big Bend. Anyone I've ever seen go says the same thing, and it keeps drawing you back.
I went out there for years, and so I have kind of large "database" on the area, but not in my head. Books, maps, notes, bookmarks, address book entries, etc., and a tiny bit of what's left of the feeble memory to recall the good spots and roads. I'll try to add some more here from time to time and hope it helps some plan their trip.
One thing I will mention here, and probably again, is always filling up with gas each and every chance you get out there. Gas stations are few and far between, and those that are there don't always have fuel, especially the premium your particular bike might need. Guys with Super Tenere's may not have a problem with fuel range, but in 2008 I took my Ducati Hypermotard out there, when it had the stock 3+ gallon tank (it has a 6.5 gallon one now), and I never went anywhere without two one liter aluminum fuel bottles in the soft side bags, along with a siphon hose and small hand pump. Not the safest way to travel, but then I never ended up walking. Of course, the Hyper gets horrific fuel mileage, often only in the 20's if you are riding it hard. Only thing is, you'll want to ride roads like the River Road 170 hard... ;D
Over the years I have seen guys with BMW RT's run dry, and simply because they passed at a gas stop thinking "Oh, I've got plenty or fuel..."
Besides, you need ot stay hydrated out there, too, so it's not a bad idea to stop often for fuel and get some water, too.
Just FYI...
