ChecksWrecks - that's scary! I stand on my pegs all the time and more often than not in very rough terrain. And on top of that, during my first ride wreck a long time ago - I bent the right side OEM peg quite noticeably. I can still stand on it without issue or discomfort so I have left it as is. But hearing your tale and seeing the internals of your broken peg has me off to Jaxons site to see what I can find. Yikes!!!

Bummer. Sorry to hear it, but glad it wasn't for a tag I posted. I'd feel guilty about that.
Sorry ChecksWrecks. I sent you on this chase. I think I need a disclaimer in my tags.

Regarding the footpeg, I wonder if they are intentionally designed to break at a certain load before the frame / mount is impacted? I think of them as mechanical levers, and if the peg is unbreakable, that may make it worse by transferring a load that destroys stuff that's much harder to fix. That said, I wouldn't want to have one break unexpectedly from the burden of my 280lbs.

. For a street bike, I'd have to say the opposite, although all naps HAVE been dirt naps so far.

My mom always said I keep a lot of guardian angels busy. I say they have done an awesome job too.

Because the first time you do you wish you dropped an RM 250 and not a 600lb tug boat in the sand.
I remember my first time I had to pick this beast up I thought my belly button was going to pop out like a Turkey thermometer.. :-*

I dropped the bike, my bad, no worries.

Definitely not an intentional weak point. See the triangular hole at the right? That's a random void in the casting. And this is not unique to any one manufacturer, it's just a characteristic of mass-produced aluminum castings.

To the left of that hole is a shiny V-shaped area, showing how big this void really was, before the break. Zooming in closer it is apparent how the fracture propagates out of the hole and toward the left as an expanding V pattern.

On the up-sdie, it took the bike falling on it and broke back to front.
On the down-side, a void like this is totally random and could be pretty much anywhere.

I got my new Pivot Pegs from Jaxon in a little over 24 hours and love 'em! They give a big flat area to stand on and when shifting or breaking, your foot pivots at the shaft, not at the front of the peg. That inch+ makes a surprisingly big difference in comfort.
