So last night was the first time I went down on my tenere,,,,375 miles on her. Rookie mistake. The great city of Philadelphia is getting around to fix pot holes and craters from this winter. So on my way home from work, a turn I make every night, I make a right at an intersection and loose my front wheel in gravel and down I go. Why would they broom up gravel at a intersection? A few scratches and straitened my forks, she took the hit pretty good. ATGATT works great.

So sorry to hear the City Of Brotherly Love was unlined to you.
ATGATT is always the way to go, good on ya. Front brake in corner and gravel can be a lethal combination. ::005::
Chalk it up as a learning experience and ride far, have fun, be safe....... and have a philly cheese stake for me. ::004::

Been there. Done that.
The roads & corners we KNOW.
Then some debri, be it gravel or oil or some other unexpected traction limited substance, shows up by surprise.
Cruel joke. Road repair guys don't ride motorcycles. Can you tell?

Bet the damage sustained from this crash was worse than your incident.
Feel better now? :D

Glad that you were well geared, and that you emerged ok.

Good you wearing your gear, hurts less to sweat than to bleed as the saying goes. Still singes the ego when ya go down regardless of the cause. Glad you are OK.

Glad you and your new bike weren't hurt. Wise riders with ATGATT do fare better. Was just down in S Philly and those roads were pretty beat up. They're no better here either.

Not to jack your thread, but there must be something in the air....

I went down today as well. A guy pulled out in front of me from the median. A truck was in the turning lane and was blocking the guy's view. Instead of waiting, he pulled out. Luckily I had just started going from a stop light only doing about 40 I was able to slow down enough from that for it to not be any worse.

The good news is the hit bounced me over to where the bike slid mostly on dirt/grass.

The bad news is I wasn't wearing ALL of my gear. I headed into work for a little bit and didn't put my riding pants on. My knee kissed the pavement and I'm going to have a nice scar to remind me why I should wear ATGATT!

Only 190 miles on the bike when it happened. Can you believe that?!?!

Damn guys - be careful out there!

Glad to see neither rider was seriously injured - the bikes can be fixed. Bike parts are way cheaper than people-parts.

I hate seeing people go down and get hurt, but these threads are a good reality check for the rest of us. No matter how vigilant you are, this stuff happens in a flash, and you won't see it coming or have very little warning. I'm glad you all are ok, and thanks for posting this stuff up. Get them Teneres to the shop and fixed up. You all will be back out there in no time. Jonezn careful running that. Make sure that fan/radiator is not damaged.

Yeah, I did a thorough check and let it run before riding it. The radiator is slightly bent but it's not leaking. It will definitely be getting replaced.

Check your fan as well - we've seen fans get the kill-shot in downs on that side.

Glad you're okay!

I have always seemed to drop all the bikes I have owned within the first 5-10 thousand I have them. Stupid mistakes as usual ( never leave a bmw RT with it idling. Kickstand doesn't lock). That is why the first thing I put on is crash bars. But like they say, now that you have the first scratches, you are not going to worry anymore and relax about it.

And a good reminder (for me anyway) to take that extra few minutes to gear-up properly. I like to get lazy when the weather gets brutal-hot here in Florida, but the heat is no excuse. If it's too hot for the right gear, it's too hot to ride....

Mo def on the ATGATT. Fancy likes to nap with regularity. It started early - on my very first ride, to be exact - and continues today. My Rumbux did not even make it one ride before they lost paint. She is the world's largest dirt bike, afterall!!

Bought my S10 used in January and managed to wipe out on my first ride. I have a get away cabin in North Carolina and got it near there.... So first thing in the am I started her up and headed up one of our driveways, as I crossed onto another driveway I didn't pay any attention to the layer of wet leaves on the crowned gravel.....ooppps.....down we went, so fast I didn't even have time to react..... Ripped that same engine guard thing right off....just like your pictures. No injury to me, the good side was that I proved to myself that I could pick the bike up. Glad you all are OK.
