I know this is 'easy peasy' guys, but I'm bored, so bear with me. ;) Got my SW Motech GPS holder in the mail from Twisted Throttle after about a 10 day wait (overseas shipment).

Remove windshield

Remove headlight shroud to expose upper headlight fixture mounting bolts.

Loosen all 3 of the gauge cluster mounting bolts enough to insert the bracket between the instument cluster and the aft side of the windshield mounting bracket.

Replace upper headlight fixture mounting bolts with the longer ones supplied by SW Motech (these will be the lower mounts for the GPS bracket).

The longer upper fixture bolts shown protruding through the lower mount point of the bracket

Supplied nuts for above bolts

Bolts for side mounting point of bracket

Removable portion of bracket on the verge of 'full insertion" aaaaaaah!! :D

Ready to rock-n-roll with car style GPS at 50+ yr old viewing distance 8) Water proofing via plastic bag or RAM box if I choose to bring it on a ride.

OBTW, I skipped taking a picture of removal of the cheesy cover that hides the back of the instrument panel. No biggie..just 3 of those plastic dowels to remove (push the center).

No questions here. I like it! I'm happy with the stock screen, so I didn't need to opt for an adjustable wind screen bracket. Just needed something to get my Navi mounted cleanly with minimal vibration.
Oh... ok. When I posted my response there were no pictures and just one sentence in the thread. Just wanted to be sure there were no issues. Very glad you like it.

A word of caution. I too installed this mount but chose to eliminate the "Quick-disconnect" feature because I felt with the push of the tab and the flick of a pocket knife, someone could walk off with your gps and the cradle too.
Ironically, this item used to be designed differently and was more secure in my opinion.

The intention was to allow you to easily grab and go with the unit. We had requests by a large number of users to add this feature to the mount so that they could easily take the unit with them. Another reason for this is to clean up the look of the bike when the gadget is not in use.

Tremor38,

Do you have a pic from the riding position that shows what you see of the mount with the GPS removed? Just curious how much obstruction of the view ahead there is.

Thanks!

Good point. Personally, I won't leave a GPS on my bike unless I can see the bike at all times. I'm sure everyone has their preferred routine though.

From what I read, the removable part of the bracket has a universal hole pattern that allows direct bolt-on of the base that comes with the Zumo 450/550. In fact, the V-strom specific bracket, which uses the exact same removable bracket hole pattern as all of the other SW motech brackets, says 'originally designed to to mount the zumo 450/550.' I think you're good to go. It only calls for additional mounting adapters if you have the 660/665.

It will mount with any gadget that has an AMPS hole pattern.

A brief article on the subject: What is the AMPS Hole Pattern? There are a couple of mounting options here with links to mounts you can use based on what you already have. My suspicion is though that your unit came with this mount:

If that is the case you just bolt it to the detachable part of the GPS mount and go.... If you want to talk to a human call our Customer Service line at 401-284-4200 and they can walk you through it.

Dude, he looked at that page and "did not see a list of the GPS' that can be installed"

Try to keep up.
Here we go again...

Dude, what's with the attitude?

Tomatocity stated he had a 550 but couldn't find a list of what gps's will fit on the mount.
I think one can safely assume he wanted to know if his 550 will fit, well the link I posted shows a 550 mounted.

I've got the SWM mount bracket and am using it with my Zumo 660 and also have the Touratech screen adjuster - the GPS used to vibrate heavily on dirt roads, so I made a rubber insert to stabilise the mount to the screen adjuster - works like a charm and also prevents punks easily removing my GPS

Sorta sorry I posted my concerns. I do not like unrest.

Tremor was correct how I felt during my request. Tremor, thank you for the original post and photos. They will be handy during the install.

Kev, thanks for the diagrams, This is information that I would like on the original product page. Maybe in an active photo. The only reason I knew the bracket would support the zumo 550 is because of the product photo but could not find anything to to confirm that. Thinking of buying a Garmin zumo 665. Is the zumo 665 require a different bracket or just an adapter?

I usually have difficulty understanding most of the TT pages. Thought it was just me. Tonight I had dinner with a motorcycle friend and I brought up my post and the following posts. My friend is a genius level person though you would not know it casually. I asked if he purchases from TwistedThrottle and he said no with one of the reasons is because he finds the page information difficult to understand. Last week he purchased a 2012 RT and is a possible purchaser.

Kev, don't think I am slamming TT. Look at my Wish List and you will see more than $800 of items I will be purchasing when I get the already purchased items installed. Many times I will depend on forum members for the item number they purchased. If only I could resolve the issue with the City tank bag. Thank you for being a sponsor of this forum. A forum that I find to be one of if not the most intelligent, friendly and fun of all the forums I am members of.

My apologies for any indifference my original post may have caused.

My apologies. He already went to the page with the picture of the mounted 550 (in this original post) before you ever posted that link. What he wanted to know is if he needed an additional bracket or hardware to mount his 550. The page had no info on that...only a picture showing you could somehow mount a 550.
