Is anyone considering soft luggage for their S10? Must be pillion compatible. Any suggestions would be much appreciated. TIA.

EDIT: My main concern is what a hard side bag would do to passengers legs in a get off...could provide some protection or could be just the opposite. Also wonder about the extra weight of a hard pannier.

yes, I have soft luggage for mine already, just waiting for the right side racks
What brand/model luggage are you planning to run? I've looked at RevPak, Nelson-Rigg and others but most appear to be geared for touring and not so much to adventure. Or they ride where the pillion sits. Spkldoe would not be pleased.

I know there has to be others besides WolfMan (and I like theirs), just hoping for choices.

IL, the land of straight, flat, boring roads
I have the Ortleib Dry Bags saddlebags for my KLR and like them a lot. The straps have velcro for adjustment across the seat, so no buckles there. I route mine across the top of the seat, as I do not have a passenger, but I see no reason why they couldn't be routed under the passenger seat. I plan to run hard bags for most of my touring, but would use these if doing some off road adventuring.

Regarding the over-seat buckle being centered on the Wolfman Expedition Dry Saddelbags, that is just the default location. On my WRR dual sport, I actually have the buckles adjusted so they are way off to one side. I didn't want the buckle on the seat or on the rear rack so I have them adjusted so they are on the exhaust side and span the gap between the seat and the bag. I would imagine the same could be done if one wanted to run the straps under a seat.

Berg, that fabs the Wolfman saddlebag racks for Wolfman, said he will be doing Super Tenere racks as soon as he has access to a bike. Wolfman bags also work with most other racks (SW-motech, Givi, etc.) if you get the Mounting Straps ($18 for the needed 8 straps): http://www.wolfmanluggage.com/Accessories/other_rack_mount.html

Thanks Chadx. I am leaning toward the SW Motech sideracks and the Wolfman Expedition Saddlebags with an eye towards hard panniers in the future. Depends on how much touring use my rumored S10 receives.

Will run a hard-side topbox with a backrest for spkldoe as standard equipment or else I need not bring the bike home

Those are nice looking bags. Should work well for anyone that doesn't need dustproof and waterproof bags (though the specs say there is a rain cover). I ran Dirtbagz brand saddlebags until the dust and rain penetration proved frustrating, so I swapped to waterproof soft bags. My wife still uses the Dirtbagz on her bike since she is a fair weather rider. :)

One will just want to consider how you are going to use them and if dust and rain penetration are of concern.

We ran the CL-850s through a week of heavy monsoon rain with the covers. My hard Ducati GIVI sidecases had a puddle in them at all times but the Nelson Rigg setup was bone dry inside. So far dust has not been an issue on our dirt road travels. I would like to take Dad up the Continental Divide, perhaps I will be able to provide a report on extensive dirt testing this summer.

Interesting! I've never had a GIVI bag leak, except for when holes were drilled in the lid to mount a rack - and not sealed properly.

Appreciate the inside info switchback. The Nelson-Rigg bags were the 1st ones I scoped out. I have used one of their tankbags on my '06 FJR since its inception and it has served me well. Good to know their saddlebags are capable too.

Note they are Ducati bags made by GIVI, not a standard GIVI pannier. Form over function likely caused this problem.

No problem. Many positive reports on a variety of dual sport forums and ADV for those who don't want to rely on me alone.

Excellent to know from first hand experience. Thanks.
