I'm finally fed-up with my SW Motech racks

Current setup: http://www.yamahasupertenere.com/index.php?topic=2767.msg48344#msg48344

They broke last year and were replaced under a 2 year warranty through twisted throttle. I found them broken again while at the ride event this weekend. Same side, different connector on the rack. The odd thing is, it always breaks on the side that has an empty bag 95% of the time.

I'm done. I have been so disappointed with the SW Motech crash bars and luggage rack that I'm swearing off the brand. It just can't hold up to my gentle use O:)

I called Caribou to see what works. They told me they have never heard of a Hepco Becker breaking...ever. They are very familiar with both Givi and SW Motech breaking. They even mentioned I'm their typical customer for this kind of experience. Lots of washboards at speed, the cheaper racks just can't take it. Guess I'm getting a HB rack.

If the back of the cases are flat you should be able to put on TT frames and fit the Zega Pro brackets.
I'm listening... what are TT frames and the Zega thing?

Give Jaxon a shout!
Bummer...where were you 3 hours ago? I didn't think Jackson carried luggage stuff.

I've got the HB stuff coming from Caribou already. I'm never one to let grass grow when my bike is injured. My wallet nearly jumps out of my hand to get it fixed. Can't stand something being wrong with my Tenere.

Roger from Caribou did pass along a tip I had never heard. Check your luggage bolts every so often, even if lock-tited. He's found through his testing in Baja that harsh wash-boarding can loosen even the most secure bolts. Once luggage bolts are loose they can lead to rack failure in places far away from the actual loose bolt.

Must admit, it's something I rarely check. Once or twice a year I'll do a general bolt tightening on every bolt I see on the bike. Never found a loose luggage rack bolt, but seemed like good advice. I ride a lot of wash-boarded roads at stupid speeds. That stuff does rattle back there.

Roger also gave me another tip for those with Caribou hardware. The locking mechanism is built to handle 400lbs of pressure. I've always been concerned about breaking the lock if I put it on too tight. He gave me permission to crank it as hard as I can with hand pressure and not worry about it.

After finding these on Ebay at a good price, £386 with panniers and quick release frame, I went for it. They were from an Italian supplier so I was a little dubious about delivery time, but they arrived within 2 days of the payment going through.
Not as good looking as the ali boxes, but as I hardly ride with panniers I couldn't justify spending twice as much. It also leaves money for a decat pipe now. A normal Givi rail is about £120 with the quick release rails being closer to £200. Looking at it that way means I got two new cases for £186. Happy.
Anyone more has Kappa KGR33 on their S10? Like them (price is good ~ 2 new cases is around £600 with rack) and very interested but would like to hear some input before ordering.

This is my ride 2013 with a Honda top case from my XL650V mounted.

Moved the Pelican cases over to the Hepco Becker rack.

The cases sit much higher than they did on the SW Motech rack. I was unsure if anyone would still fit on the back seat so had to get my daughter to sit on the back. No problem, she lost no leg room due to the new position.

Racks and the way the cases sit on them are significantly more stable than the SW Motech. I've been told no one has broken a HB rack, and I can see why. It does appear to be much better constructed than the SW Motech.

I'm not sure what i think of them sitting so high. I think they probably look better, but I'm not going to be happy if they make the bike more top heavy. Time will tell.

Just got in and mounted up my Wendellcase Panniers from www.wendellcase.com, and I am very happy with them. The seem very well made and look great! I mounted them to SW Motech racks. As you can see in the last picture, the panniers angled out in the front a bit. It was a bit worse, but I was able to put some spacers behind some of the mounting points of the rack to the bike and fix it a little bit.

Oh my... they are luverly...

All my life I've drooled over the AH3000, (until the various owners moved me on...). I don't know about the states but they're rarer than hens teeth over here...

Thanks.
