would anyone be surprised if the esa from the FJR is an option here? seems a spendy investment to develop just for the one bike

my thought s on this are real, this bike only needs more power from standard 130-150bhp, it needs to be lighter (the ktm 1190 feels like a 250 compared to ours, and of course better finishing, i.e better metal/materials. that is all we need. nothing more ::001::

Well, Triumph had the chance to do all that... Why didn't they? They may have made something with more power, but it's a huge, ponderous, top-heavy lump with zero off-road capability and lousy fit, finish, and materials.

What happened there?

Amen, Karson! ::008::

Lots of folks seem to want all these bells and whistles... Ducati Multistrada top-end power (despite the fact that would ruin the S-10 off-road), the light weight of a KTM (despite the fact that might totally compromise the S-10's bulletproof reliability), and all the electronic wizardry of the BMW and Ducati (despite the fact that might be a reliability headache/nightmare), yet they all want to have it without paying the BMW-KTM-Ducati level pricing for it!!! ???

Geez, just look at how many already bitch, whine (whinge), moan, and complain about how the Super Tenere already costs too much... Now they want more and more fluff but would never actually be willing to pay for it... ::025::

Normally, I find November to be a profoundly depressing month (cold, short, cloudy days, onset of winter, etc., etc.,) but at least this year I will have the excitement and anticipation of seeing what Yamaha has done to the Super Ten. I honestly don't think it needs much by way of improvement, just a few little tweaks here and there. It is already the most solid, reliable, and best overall large bore adventure bike on the market, as far as I am concerned. ::022::

Cheers,

Yea, tweaks....I wonder if any of the new features will be able to be retrofitted to the current bikes....

I'm ok with that as long as it's "optional".
Simply because I wouldn't want it.

Someday I guess this active suspension stuff will be mature and reliable and actually be BETTER than a well sorted "analog" suspension.
Someday. But not yet.

ABS, Traction Control, Linked Brakes, Multiple ECU maps.............
All amazing advances when they reach some point in development.

But again, right now, I would hope it is optional.

Very true, I rode the 2013 Multi Strata with the Skyhook semi active suspension and while it was the best electronic suspension I have ridden to date, it was not as good as the suspension I already have on 4 different bikes in my garage.....just more expensive and probably less reliable.

My wish list is pretty simple

1) Get the headlight wiring harness fixed. I started having problems with mine at 4,100 miles. To me, that is ridiculous.

2) Electronic cruise control!!! With the ABS, traction control, and fly by wire throttle already on the bike I've got to think adding cruise would be simple and cheap. This sure would make my right wrist happy.

3) More fuel capacity. Coming from a ST1300 I could go 285 miles on the highway before looking for fuel.

4) Sort out the fueling and make the ECU reflash unnecessary. Perhaps this can't be done and still pass emissions.....

5) A little more power would be nice but for the most part I'm happy with what I have now

You are really close to Yamaha's long-proven way of doing things. Develop for one platform and share with others. Then as the first platform gets a bit older, share other new tech back to it.

We also have at least the silhouette and it looks like the current bike, not something revolutionary new.

So to see the cruise control and ESA migrate from the new FJR would ought to be expected, just as much of our existing instrument cluster looks to have been adapted from the last generation FJR. Besides, it's what the competition has had for a while. The company also makes styling changes to the instrument cluster when updating models.

A little lighter weight would be possible, but since the silhouette is so much like the existing bike, I don't expect too much. Yamaha people are on the forum and this has been the focus of press criticism since the bike came out, so some weight reduction ought to be one of their goals. The reason I don't expect much again goes to how little changed between generations of previous Yamaha model changes. (FJR, VMax, FZ1, etc)

We know that it doesn't take much ECU or engine development to increase horsepower markedly. Another press and widespread criticism. A German Super-T was making about 130 hp a couple of years ago and I remember that he wrote it didn't take a lot. Of course, offsetting this will be emissions and lawyers.

Probably a slight fairing facelift and new headlight styling, but staying within the silhouette Yamaha has already released. Think in terms of how they have updated the FJR for 3 generations, while keeping the look fairly consistent.

Who knows, it may even come in that sharp red color!

I wouldn't be surprised if we saw CC, and perhaps ESA, though the latter doesn't appeal to me for the S10. As has been said, it adds complexity and cost and still isn't as good as custom set up suspension. And often it's really expensive to replace when it needs it.

Sadly, Yamaha does not have a history of making bikes lighter as the generations progress. At least not bikes like the FJR and Super Tenere. Perhaps dirt bikes and the R class stuff where weight is more focused upon by the magazines and perceived market.

Time will tell. I'd love to see a 500 lb shaftie that my wife could ride comfortably, with Japanese reliability and dealer support. She loves the Super Ten, but the weight scares her off, even with it lowered. That and she still has her love/hate relationship with her BMW. I keep trying to wean her off the Koolaid. :-[ "maybe this time it won't break" Yeah, sure...
