I kinda feel for the new members.

It's like showing up at a party late, after it's been going on for some time. And instead of kinda lurking around and getting to know who the folks are that are already here, and what their "styles" are, (in other words, reading a lot) they simply jump in and announce they are here too. :)

Absolutely understandable. But you gotta know SOME stuff first. Lol

Otherwise, how you gonna know who you just got into a debate with?
I ain't going toe-to-toe on documented facts with Dallara! That's crazy.
(Most of us could see it coming too. For me, entertaining as heck while I wind down for the day)

And for the folks that think this volley calls for moderation.
I respectfully disagree. :)
This board gets teased for be boring all the time. (I blame Yamaha)
Every once in a while a thread finally gets a bit saucy. And you want it capped?

I need this. I'm old and I don't watch reality TV.

What's next? Dumping the EFI for a Fisher carburetor with a Spiralmax/Turbonator like you run on your '69 Buick? ;)

Only with the oversized gonkulator valve.

On a more serious note, kerosene is a known seal-swelling agent used in various after market additives, but is also known to break down rubber.

I worked pretty closely with my father who's been a wrench all of his life. The only time he ever used kerosene was to clean/flush individual metal parts...and never on complete assemblies with seals. I'd much prefer to flush using more frequent oil changes, if one is so inclined. Saving a few bucks by flushing a perfectly good final drive with a solvent isn't very sound judgment, IMO, and repeating the process just because nothing failed the previous times doesn't make it any more correct.

Are you sure

Dallara is bound sure to come back with another 6,000 word essay, I have learnt my lesson, it is like trying to have a debate with my Mum, you can only agree to disagree if she is unaware of said agreement, and you are highly unlikely to get the last word in (unless it is well hidden under your breath)

So far no personal insults so I have no problem with this running on and on, the first few posts covered the original suggestion, and counter arguments, along with the sensible middle line of flush it with the right stuff.

This will probaby be my last post as I am about to go and ride for 3,000+ miles, if you do decide to sort it out in the playground at lunch time make a recording so I can see it later ::008::

Oh lord now you've done went over the edge, Mr two thousand words a minute will be a long soon to type out his extensive résumé ???

Hope you like reading (BS or the like) cause its a coming but stick to your guns on your beliefs. Internet bully's are just like heavy smoke in a room eventually with enough fresh air the room will clear.

Dude don't lump us all in the same boat as Dallara. There have been guys like him on forums since their inception. His type are the one constant in a ever changing universe. Keep your chin up the worst thing you can do is quit the forum because then he wins. The trick is don't fall for the bait in the first place. :D

Sorry to disappoint you folks, but here I am out on the road with nothing but this phone to reply with... So until I'm back home at real computer I'll say this:

Thanks for the link, Riva. I look forward to reading it when I get back.

Rasher... You can write pretty good "essays" yourself...

Ridefast99... I'll see your drag racing with a number of WERA expert road racing wins, and raise you putting cars on the starting grid of the Indy 500 all eight years in a row I was there.

Roy, you should have a raven black Super Ténéré as much as you like to "blow" smoke...

Thanks to you, Autoteach... You have a wonderful way with words!

So now, how 'bout a show of hands? How many of ya' are gonna' flush your final drives with kerosene? That's the real question!

Can't wait to read the replies when I return!

Dallara Take note of section entitled "Solvent Cleaning"
Here you go, just so everyone can read it:

"Solvent cleaning – The use of solvents to remove organic deposits that cannot be removed by recirculation. Solvent cleaning may incorporate the use of organic (hydrocarbon-based) halogenated, nonhalogenated and blends solvents (type A-1 cleaners such as kerosene, or A-2 cleaners such as naphtha and Stoddard solvent are common) to dissolve heavily crusted or layered carbon residues.

Organic solvents tend to be blends of aliphatic and aromatic hydrocarbons and dissolve soil as opposed to emulsifying soil. These materials may be warranted if evidence of heavy carbonaceous residue exists."

Doesn't really describe the conditions in an almost new FD does it... "Deposits that cannot be removed by recirculation" "heavily crusted or layered carbon residues"

Crikey!!! I just read this tread for first time, very interesting but for me 'no' I would not use Kero myself, on another note I have used this forum to gather info to do my own work on my bike! so I would rather have both sides of coin and like the fact that some have shat loads of experience so I can make informed decision on my own,,,,

Good work in not closing it down too.

Zzzzzzzzz ..... Hhhhmmmmmmm .... Zzzzzzzz

Huh! ??? Yikes. Hey are we there yet?

Had this real bizarre dream about flushing my ECU with Permatex and then raising the seat 6" so as my newly installed USD bars would make the rear shock respond better to controlled inputs from my sat nav. ::)

I'm still laughing about the pig wrestling bit ... priceless. Did someone mention OCD drama queens ...... what are those when they're at home?

What is also priceless is the fact that we actually have a forum in which we are able to consider all things and interpret as we see fit. All are welcome to contribute .... facts, opinions, hearsay and conjecture ..... it's all cool.

No one should have to consider leaving or not posting and we should be wary of bringing overbearing and dictatorial rules into play .... sheesh I have enough of that in my real world job.

Play fair and reasonable out there ... let's not mess with peoples feelings though hey ::008::

Dallara the great 1,000 word internet bandit

Awe shucks I was so looking forward to a long read/spill/resume/reminder of the great "D"

Phone to high tech for you? Funny I don't seem to have problem with one.

I may be full of smoke but you're definetely full of "insert you know what here"

You and autoteach should just get a room together that way you can stir the pot and he can be the kettle :))

Btw nimrod this wasn't about whether the guy wants to flush with gas, kerosene or diesel. It's more about you coming in stating your opinion and expecting it to be the only one that should be recognized, as usual in any of your long winded post.
