Re: Ordering a left switch cluster to have a Euro hazard & flash to pass

Hey Andy how long was your wait time for the housing? Tohru said it was going to be awhile and I remember it took weeks for my levers to come from Hong Kong. Just wondering and thanks again.

I think you guys are getting good deals now that the yen is down.
Tohru is excellent. I ordered my silver side panels from him too. Shipping was pricey but not ridiculous.
I first found him when a bunch of us from the advrider xrl forum were trying to find fmx650 5th gears. After months of waiting on uk suppliers at twice the price I was glad I found Tohru.

Just ordered/paid for the switch from Japan-
$134 bucks shipped to California, said it will be packaged and headed my way in the next few days.

Will be VERY glad to have hazards, flash to pass will be a bonus. Anyone else wanting one just send him and email with the part number and he will get back to you with price/shipping cost.

Part number 23P-83969-01 I got this part number out of AndyCBR post #103-with a pic of the switch and part number.

Hi Everyone,
I tried this link and inquired about the part. I received an email yesterday giving me the price and telling me to send the money to a paypal account. I'm wondering if this is the way it's done? Thanks for the help!

I bought a used left hand switch cluster from an 09 hyabusa off e bay for $50 has the flash to pass switch and hazard switch. Spent much time with multimeter and wring schematic but was able to make it work. Had to extend the Suzuki wire harness by about 14 inches and match up wires to mate with Yamaha harness. Pretty far from plug and play but with plenty of time and patience it can be done. Now have flash to pass and 4 way flasher functionality.

Hi Janet, I just went through this and sent the $134.00. There's a certain level of trust and risk that is associated with sending a payment to an unknown email address. The way I look at it is that other members have used this person and he has been trustworthy and sent the requested parts. If he didn't, I would hope our members would raise a red flag. I haven't seen that so I went for it. I'm now waiting for my part to arrive.

I'm in the same boat. I e-mailed Tohru and he responded quickly and concisely to my every question. He had a verifiable PayPal e-mail address and no complaints there I saw. Members here seem to have had good luck with him, and he told me up front that he did not have my switch in stock, but ordering it from Yamaha would have it in two days, then a day to get it shipped to me, follwed by a week for it to make the transit from Japan. He also responded to me with confirmation he had my payment and was proceeding as discussed.

I now just await the switch, which should be here either the very end of this week or the first to middle part of next week. I guess we'll see. ::017::

Hey Janet I'm in the same boat as the other guys. I took a leap of faith based on the good results Andy had. I placed my order and await my switch but I firmly believe this part will arrive as promised. All my emails were answered in a very timely manner and clear info. As James Brown said "I feel good."

Glad you jumped on the bandwagon, Janet! ::008::

Look at this way... If none of us get our switches we'll have a group assembled to complain about it together! :D

I'll post when mine gets here, and hopefully others will do the same. That way others will know if Tohru is a reliable source and be able to get a handle on just how long it takes to get one. For the record Tohru got my PayPal payment on January 24, 2013 (my time, January 25, 2013 his time).

Have a bit to add to this. I had an 09 Suzuki Hayabusa switch I had bought last year to give this a try. Doug C stopped by, asked if he could "borrow" the switch, it came back fully functional with flash to pass, hazards, horn working etc. ::013:: Also added an on/off switch for the clutch switch mod.
So for any of you who have done the mod. (US or Canadian bikes) the hazards work with the key on only? I'm assuming the Euro version bikes with it can turn the ignition to park, remove the key with the hazards on? ( the way a 2011 Vstrom 650 does)
Very pleased with the finished product, although I understand you need the wiring diagram, connectors, crimpers etc. and since the Suzuki harness is to short you have to make up a short section of harness for the length needed and reconfigure the pins from Suzuki to Yamaha.
Seems like the purchase of one from Yamaha is certainly a time saver. ???

It's been a while since I ordered the stuff but I want to say I had it in 10-12 days or so. I've never ordered anything that was backordered though. If lots of people start ordering Euro switches I wouldn't be surprised if they end up on back order sometime. Not sure what mother Yamaha's stock threshold is for that part number.

I did have to go to the post office to pick up any package he has shipped to me though. USPS wouldn't leave it without a signature I guess because it was international air mail.

Had the same luck when ordering some Euro only Honda parts from him too.

He's legit.

BTW I never see any risk in using paypal to order something. I have had it go bad before (with other vendors) and paypal has always made it right.

Best,
Andy

Thanks again and 10-12 days isn't bad at all. I hope I got my order in when there was stock on hand but if not the wait will be a little longer.

Same here...

10 days, 2 weeks, a month, whatever. It's not like I've just *gotta'* have it. I've been waiting for it 18 months and over 26,000 miles. What's a few more days, right? :D

Had completely forgotten about PayPal protecting the purchase, so it really is a no-risk deal. Sweet!

Thanks, Andy, for paving the way and finding this source. ::008::

You're welcome glad it is working out.

After the mod the functionality is pretty neat to have.

Too bad the guys buying 2013 bikes can't import them direct from Japan, they would've gotten a really good deal now. On the other hand it's good that Yamaha is making good money over here so they can give us good service.

A friend of mine just got a new (Canadian) 2012 KTM 990, I really like the way the hazards work on that bike. You turn the key on then off then pull it out, the hazard button lights up for about 10 seconds, push it in and the hazards stay on without the key. I don't really need that here in north America, we almost always have room to park the bike properly even for a quick run to a store.
I'll probably use hazards only when I'm on the bike and I'm sitting on the side of the road, so everyone can see me, I also turn the hazards on when I'm on the highway and the traffic suddenly stops, being ready to jump into the shoulder is also a good idea.
Was the yen too high when they brought these bikes to North America? Hazards simply make my bike safer, it is also a couple more OEM simple/basic/cool buttons to compete with today's big ADV bike standards.

Just a quick update...

I just received - here on 01/31/13 at 10:10am my local time - an e-mail notification from Tohru that my switch assembly has shipped from Japan. It include Japanese Post tracking information as well as all of Tohru's physical address, phone number, etc. info. Very complete and very professional. He told me that post from Japan would take about a week to the USA, so it looks like I will have my switch this time next week.

Great service, IMHO, so far! ::008::

Just FYI...

Ordering a left switch cluster to have a Euro hazard & flash to pass

On my US bike all lighting is dead with the key off including the euro spec hazard switch.
