My Dealer just sent me a copy of the bill that they're sending to my insurers, for the repairs on my S10. With the dreaded VAT and labour charges………£2,026.00. Now just waiting to hear as to whether her insurers are going to argue the cost, or just cough up. Whatever the outcome, it looks like I won't be riding my bike much before they start gritting the roads again. :(

I feel for you Mikey last years crash I was involved in still feels like last month sometimes, I knew I had to shake it off and get back on sitting in the ER even with my Wife pleading with me no more motorcycles..
I saw mine coming at least and had time to whisper Oh-F and dear Jesus in the same breath in slow motion before going zero gravity and knocking my Soul out of me for a second.
You had been taken completely by surprise that is one big shock mate..
Never the less you seem to be doing OK, have you had any check ups with a doctor?

A big shock it certainly was Ramseybella. Out on the best bike I have ever owned, pootling through a quaint little village in the autumn sunshine. Feeling "zoned in" and at peace with the world, as I invariably am when I ride and suddenly………... BANG!

Didn't feel the need to see my Doctor, as my wife and I are both practicing Nurses. After returning home, a thorough examination of my painful bits revealed no more than some bruising around my left ankle and calf and a few more bruises and painfully pulled muscles in my upper back.

Now, exactly a week later I can sit down and stand up again, without wincing and swearing out loud. I also managed to take the dog out for a walk, without resorting to taking painkillers an hour before this morning. Given my 'advancing years' and the consequent lack of bounce that my body now possesses, I don't think I came off too badly at all and I still feel very grateful that i'm still around to ride another day. ::008::

Damn, glad you came out of it with all limbs intact! Getting hit from behind is my worst fear. I'm always moving faster than the flow of traffic for that reason, but that won't help much at a stop. I saw a youngster on a KLX250 motard version come to a stop at a traffic light, immediately pull out a smart phone and start texting. Nothing like watching your mirrors to make sure the car behind you is slowing down!

Got confirmation in this mornings post. The insurance company have given my dealer the okay to begin the repairs my bike. The workshop manager reckons that the non OE parts will get to them a couple of working days but couldn't give me any idea as to how long it'll take for the OE parts to get to them, especially the new fuel tank. A confidence inspiring response?……………………errrrrm, No. ::007::

Called in to my dealer this afternoon and spoke with the service department manager, who still has no idea as to when any of my OE bits are going to turn up. He looked at his computer screen and said that the parts will either be coming over from Yamaha Europe, in Holland or on backorder from Japan. He then looked up, smiled and said "……………and that could take several months."

My insurers are also being a bunch of pedants, as they're insisting that I need to pay them my policy excess. Naturally I told them that I would be doing no such thing, given that I'm not claiming on MY policy but the other drivers. The very nice but ultimately clueless girl on the other end of the phone said that she understood but added that the third parties insurers have not admitted liability and therefore, I needed to cough up £250.

I gritted my teeth and again, explained that the "third party" had rammed into the rear of my bike, whilst I was stationary at a roundabout. I then asked her to calculate the percentage likelihood of the other insurance company being able to deny liability, given those circumstances. I also suggested that her answer should be very close to the vicinity of 0%. There was a rather pregnant pause in the conversation, before she replied " I'll need to look into that for you…………………………………….…." ::010:: ::010:: ::010:: ::010::

Hi mikeybikey. I feel for you!! If its any help. Ive been doing up my bike since my deer strike 7 months ago. It didnt take 7 months but I couldnt move much for the first two. If it helps I ordered loads of bits (original Yamaha bits) from AJSutton uk and none of them took more than 4 weeks. I reckon your dealer (like most in uk) is probably just being a lazy bum and maybe only does his ordering once a month or something. Look up the part number(s) and give AJ Sutton a call. It may be good ammo to be able to tell your dealer that you could get the parts yourself quicker!! Several months is bollocks. I even got a few parts from a mate in Hong Kong too and that only took 3 weeks. Hope you can get the ball rolling soon.

When I was on the Triumph Tiger 1050 forum lots of riders from the U.K. Go figure!! (Triumph).. ???
Seemed you guys have so many issues with the insurance laws and loop hole jumping in your parts, I am surprised anyone can get things fixed..
Just keep swatting at the squeaky grad students on the other end, I had to deal with a few Love Pink poster children when I had my wreck with AAA insurance.. ::010::

Looks as though things are going from bad to worse here.

Problem number one:

My dealer went and found further damage to the bike, which now has to be approved by my insurer. The Givi bar on the left side has a small lug on it that locates onto a rubber bung that protrudes out from just under the front of the left side panel. When the bike and I hit the ground, the front mounting bar bent itself out of line and also went and bent the lug too. And what does the lug connect to…………….? The bottom of the radiator. So I now have a few more weeks to wait for that to be sorted out, at best.
Problem number two:

I also phoned my insurers yesterday to check whether the other drivers insurers had admitted liability yet. It's five weeks from the day of the accident, so I didn't think it unreasonable to chase them up. After much ummm-ing and ahhhh-ing the nice lady on the other end of the phone eventually said that they'd DENIED any liability!!!!!!! Apparently, the woman who hit me is now saying that it wasn't her and she had no clue as to what they're talking about. She even went as far as to claim that she wasn't even in the area on that particular day.

I think i'll go and lie down in a darkened room now……….. ??? ??? ???

Thats makes me boil. Had a couple of non fault accidents in my car n each time the third party has denied responsibility. This is after admitting guilt at the seen of the accident. Both times it ending in my favour, but not before heaps of time n hassle... Reading need a 360º camera recording in a loop... :-[ Regarding CMC, wether this is revelant or typical, they've messed me about a few times recently with parts and service... Modern life.., easier to where loin cloth n hunt mammoth! ::) Hope it all comes good for you anyhows...

Good news folks! Turns out my insurers had been accusing the wrong person of running into me after all. Apparently, they managed to get one digit wrong on her cars registration plate, which sent them off after an entirely innocent person. Having now received the right details and contacting the right person, the matter of liability is now resolved ,as her insurers have said they will meet the claim in full. ::015::

Also off to the Motorcycle Live Show at the NEC on Saturday with my mates Rob and Rob, which i'm now really looking forward to. I'll see if I can bag a replacement for my damaged Shoei Neotec at a "special show price" whilst i'm there but i'll most likely come home with a few more farkles and a very empty wallet. O:)

It looks unlikely that my bike will be repaired by then but I do live in hope, however futile it may be. Failing that, I may be able to get over to CMC anyway and meet up with folk before they all go on their run out.

Despite not being able to get out for a ride with them, it'd be really good to get properly acquainted with a bunch of people that also have such incredibly good taste in motorcycles. O:)

Very pleased things are starting to work out for you.

I'm at the exact opposite of the spectrum. My bike has been fixed and returned to me, so I suppose Yam UK must have had all the parts in stock.

Unfortunately the myopic driver that pulled out of a minor into a major is claiming that I'm at fault through speeding. I wasn't speeding and think I can prove it but it's holding up the insurance side of things. As it stands it appears that the Accident Management Company that are handling my claim are footing the bill at the moment.

It's almost a certainty, that getting to the end of an insurance claim will be an ocean going, fur lined, 24 carat gold pain in the arse. Despite this, just hang on in there Mike and things will work out okay. ::008::
