New Tenere' handle bars

So Chris with Fasst called me this morning to let me know there is a couple of days delay on the Flexx bar for the Tenere. Seems the pivot pins require outsourced heat treatment and they hope to have them Wednesday next week. But that being the day before Thanksgiving, the delay still exists.

Regardless, I was very impressed with the personal handling of my order. I wish all vendors strived to handle their customer service issues so thoroughly.

Again, thanks for the op and others for explaining this product so well. I'm convinced the reduced sweep will be a benefit on longer rides. The fact that they are well made is a bonus.

I have read a few comments saying that Fasst Co. flexx bars can't get rid of vibration. And yet I changed my bars and got rid of the hand numbing vibration. If there is an elastimer connecting the handle section off the bars to the part mounting to the bike ( which by the way also pivots) then it may just be possible to stop enough vibration to help improve the ride. We didn't swap out silver bars for black ones. We changed rigid bars to pivoting works of art.

how long/wide are the bars? I had a old set of pro tapers in the shop I was going to tray and make work but........

they are not wide enough to get all the stuff on them. Damn it. Are you guys using the fast bars still using the weight? I am told you can add more weight to reduce more vibrations.

So is it worth it?

I chose the ATV Mid ProTapers..... The ATV bend matched the stock bars in rise, were half the sweep, and were .5" wider than the Moto bars @ 32". I was able to fit all the controls , etc.

More weight reduces the strenght of the resonance a tad but increases the frequency, could suit some, didnt, like it myself.

well I may order me a set of fasst flex, not sure. I would like to see more than one option, then I will need to see if I need new lines and reroute the wiring.

So it continues.....

I noticed at the Fasst website they now have '15° Super Tenere' in the flip down menu for the Flexx bars. I also notice that a 15 ° sweep seems to be the standard 'adventure' sweep according to them. Does anyone know what the OEM sweep is?

This was in a email from Cole:

Patrick,

Great talking to you, thanks for the interest in Flexx Handlebars for your Tenere! I'm confident you will dig their abuse reduction the big bike throws off. Flexx Handlebars will absorb the continuous high frequency abuse like road chop, washboard, stutter bumps, etc. while also protecting your upper body on the slow frequency big impacts. The big adventure bikes transmit a lot of abuse to the rider which Flexx Handlebars will absorb so you will have a better day on the bike.

Our new 19* Adventure sweep, with dimensions specific for the Tenere, will have 80mm of sweep which from our testing seems to be most comfortable for the majority of adventure riders whether they are coming from a street or dirt back ground. We also offer our 15* Tenere specific bar that offers 62mm of sweep, which works well for tall or dirt oriented back grounds.

Attached are some notes for fitment and testing of our work with the Tenere, all of this testing is based on our 15* sweep bars. I've been working with Cycle World editors Ryan Dudek and Blake Conner as well as Dirt Rider's Jimmy Lewis to be sure we have not only the bar bend dialed but overall improve the ergos.

Please let me know what questions or concerns you have as well. You are welcome to call to me at any time as well at the number below as well.

Yamaha Super Tenere Ergonomic Notes

Stock Handlebar dimensions:
Width: 32.5”/825.5mm
Heigth: 4”/106mm
Sweep: 5.75”/146mm
Peg to bar: 36-38” Depending on how the bar is adjusted.

Flexx Handlebar Tenere dimensions:
Width: 32.5”/825.5
Height: 4.5”/116mm
Sweep: 2.4”/62mm
Peg to bar: 37-38” Depending on how the bar is adjusted.
Part #: FL-1004-15-32.5

I got mine ordered Thursday with blue highlights.

Definitely interested in your thoughts when you've had a chance to put a few miles on the Flexx bars.

Finally finished my FASST bar install today:

All standard equipment and all my farkles fit like a charm. I am 6'4'' and felt quite cramped on the stock bars. These bars open the shoulders up and relax my wrists. Standing up they are just simply comfortable.
Will report back once I have more miles under my belt.

Here is a pic of how different they are compared to teh stock bars:

And I can confirm that they fit without any adjustment with a straight up 1'' riser:

Well worth the $$ and FASST is one of the most knowledgeable and friendly companies I have ever ordered from.
Which sweep did you go with? We're the same height and I'm looking for a reference point. Thanks!

I personally went with the 15 degree sweep (FL-1004-15-32.5) - the one for the rather tall people. Still absolutely no regrets on the purchase. It will be spring before I can report back on any multi day off-road behavior though. I have no doubts that I will love them though. They give me a whole lot more confidence and control over the bike.

The new bars from a poseurs standpoint: Standing on the pegs riding into the Starbucks parking lot ... it just feels soooo much better... ::018::

Mounted! Just itching for a 4-5 hour run to be fair with my analysis. But just sitting static it is obvious with less sweep that I'm not bunched up like I am with the OEMs.

Broad shoulder guys are especially crowded with the steep sweep.

The suggested Aluminum bar-end threading kit (from ergo(?) something) was top quality stuff too. This is really nice USA kit. Very pleased with first impressions.

Super Tenere specific model.
Listed as 15 degree.
I will admit that they are not a subtle change. Very different. My first eyes-closed impression was "old school dirt bike", compared to what the previous 18,000 miles felt like.

Love the eye candy engineering. But what I really want is my aging old rickety bones to wear a bit better on long rides. I have a high tolerance for pain. I can ride through it. I can sometimes even block it out completely. It's like getting in a zone, if you will. But I'm convinced the oem bars are a fairly extreme geometry. Certainly at one end of the spectrum. These new bars are still pretty wide, but brought back into the geometric norm.

New Tenere' handle bars

Rode to work this morning. First impression:

Holy cow. VERY different bike. As I stated earlier, not subtle change!

I already know I absolutely love less sweep. These bars literally move your elbows out. (The oem bars had mine tucked in) This has a major impact on your mirrors if you are a big guy. I was always amazed at how much of the S10 mirrors were usable. But now they are like most bikes I have and are now considerably blocked by my arms. About 50%.

The tank bag must go. I have the lock ring version of the cortech dryver. It's never been the most elegantly looking thing when mounted because it doesn't match the slope of the tank. But it functions perfectly and is exactly the size I like. But these bars, with their dirt-bike posture cause me to crowd the bag with my fat belly. And although it has a large amount of sliding adjustment in the mounting plate, I can't move it farther forward without spoiling the turning radius of the new bars.

Also, although it was a short ride, I already think I want to lower the upward tilt of the control bars a bit. Not much, but some. It looks like you would simply remove the inner poly bushings and file a bit of thickness off them. That allows the rider to dial in his own rise angle with these bars. That also would lower my elbows just a bit. Maybe reclaiming a bit of mirror surface too.

These bars put me in a very aggressive posture. I immediately wanted to go hooligan. They were perfect for standing on the pegs. I mean perfect! (Keep in mind I have them mounted in the 2" Roxy pivoting risers)

Can't wait to get off road. They seem to beg for it. On the street they make me want to hug the tank and put a foot down and go supermoto. A silly notion considering this is a fat bloated 600lb beast that will tear your lower leg off. :)

Very different bike with these bars. Love or hate, they CHANGE everything. Mostly attitude.

New Tenere' handle bars

Final update, and I will shut up for awhile.

No need to shave anything off the bushings to reduce the rise angle of the control surface portion of the bars.

Instead, after getting home last night and still having a fresh "muscle memory" of the ride, I loosened up both the Roxy Risers and the handle bar clamps just enough so I could move both\either pivot with some force.

Then I closed my eyes and did my best to place my hands as naturally as I could on the grip surfaces. Then I attempted to move things where they required as little adjustment as possible in my shoulders, elbows, and wrists.

Turns out that I only needed to tilt the bars towards me some. Actually turning them towards me in the handle bard clamps of the Roxys. (Not moving the Roxys in the oem triple clamp)

I had the 2 crossbars on the flex-bars almost perfectly parallel horizontal to the ground. They need to be tilted back similar to the angle of the triple clamp, instead of the earth! Lol

Much nicer. But even more in the way of the tank bag I was using. So it is definitely out.

The last thing I could do to make them "eyes closed" perfect, would be to cut about 3/4" off each end. I swear I could go to sleep with my hands placed exactly there. :)

I'm about to replace my bars with Protaper Contour ATV Mid bars. Are there any things to look for or no about before the swap? Is the left grip just glued on like a standard dirt bike grip? Any tricks to getting it off to reuse?

Thanks,
