I had the same problem. The wiring at the switch is very fragile and may disconnect when you take out throttle body to clean etc. The switch I'm talking about is the switch that off the cc by pushing the throttle forward. It's located at the throttle cable area at the throttle body.

I cut out the black part completely and connected the black and red wire to complete the circuit. Cc works now but pushing the throttle forward will not disable it.

Well that is interesting. You could test that by making a small jumper at the plug and leaving the throttle portion un-plugged. Perhaps as simple as a paperclip if it's female on the harness end. If male, shouldn't be too hard with some small connectors from Napa or radio shack, (if you have one of those nearby). Worst case, Eastern Beaver sells plugs and pins for Japanese electrical harnesses.

I'm not intimately familier with the component of this bike, since i don't have much experiencing working on it yet, but the rings that Eric mentioned could well be a cause for a problem such as this. That scenario would be very similar to the prop speed control problem I mentioned earlier. The new information on the switches seems promising too.

I'm an old school mechanic and I like to test and prove causes to problems whenever I can. I also have 30 years experience doing this and know that isn't always possible. Sometimes the skills knowledge and abilities required for the proving aren't available, sometimes you don't have the test equipment and other times suitable tests haven't even been developed.

Personally I think I would inspect the switches with the new information that was posted above in mind and then I would be looking for a way to get two bikes together so some serious part swapping can be done. I know that is a difficult and time consuming opinion, but at this point buying parts off the shelf and hoping the fix them or paying for extensive amounts of shop time could get prohibitively expensive. The ability to quickly change entire wheel assemblies etc. seems to be needed in this case. I know that isn't an easy solution, but frankly there is no easy solution to problems such as this. My 2cents worth what you paid for them.

So was your switch seemingly OK, but you found out that it had intermittent issues? I ask because my switch seems OK and I have to forcefully close the throttle to ever get it to trip the cruise.

What were your exact symptoms that led you to that switch? Thanks for the input.

Well, we can go ahead and rule out the throttle forward cancel switch. I jumped it out this evening and went on a test ride. Cruise control issues did not improve at all. :(

I checked it months ago and it was fine then, but I figured I would try again anyway.

I didn't know what was wrong and couldn't put the cc to set. Tried adjusting the brakes and everything but no avail. So left with the switches.

Re: My bizarre & seemingly unsolvable cruise control issues...hoping for new ideas.

Sorry for the delayed update. My wife and I had little baby girl on September 7th (our first)! That has kept me pretty occupied haha.

Last check was done shortly after the 7th when the Yamaha engineer had the dealer check the throttle position sensor. Sensor checked fine, which resulted in the engineer requesting us to order a new multi function meter. This was ordered right afterwards and I just got a call that it has been received. Bike is scheduled to have that replaced this Friday.

I'm grateful that Yamaha is still on the trail with me and I sure hope to get this resolved soon :(. I'm honestly kind of hoping it's not the meter because that resets my odometer and I hate seeing my hard earned mileage go from 45k to 0. But I goes oh well, what needs to be done needs to be done.

Engineer is confident that the wheel sensors are not the issue because he practically guaranteed we would be seeing codes if they were suspect. I kept bringing this up but they keep putting it to bed.

Wish me luck this Friday!

Congratulations all the way around! The young lady will be keeping you busy for years, I hope you'll enjoy it. I'm also impressed that the engineers are still engaged. Not many folks are able to get that level of involvement. Good luck.

Congrats with your little girl ::003::
(When I got children, there went about 19 years, before I got a bike again)

And good luck with the S10

Welcome to the club, my son was born 9 weeks ago and it's been an interesting experience! But the wife is still happy that I get a chance to ride when I can during the nice weather. Enjoy the diaper changes and getting him to sleep every night!!

Thank you very much everyone! We are enjoying watching her go through changes day by day. Amazing stuff. I sure hope she takes a liking to camping and riding some day ;).
