It comes to the same conclusion that Mobil 1 is good stuff, but it also addresses the issue of oil additives in non-motorcycles oils affecting clutch operation on wet-clutch bikes.

Click on that link at your own risk. It may end up costing you several hours and a fair amount of frustration!!
I read heavy stuff all the time and found it, as expected, tedious but informative. So thanks for the link.

Just bought some Mobil 1 4T. I'll see how the gear change test goes over the next 6000km. Had a good chat to the oil tester techo down there a few weeks ago as well about the difference between the oils. His basic response is that all of the Synthetics are so much better these days than dino oil, especially where a gearbox is sharing the same oil as the engine, so use Mobil 1 diesel, car or motorcycle oil and is will be way better, BUT the different Mobil 1 synthetic oils have different additives for different jobs but all of them are so much better than filtered Pennsylvanian crude oil that people used to use (I think that was a bit of a jab at a once popular brand that old timers refuse to let go of.)

I'm not an engineer/expert about oils, but I do have personal experience that has me convinced that synthetic oils are superior. More than a few years ago I owned and maintained a Cb400F, 75 vintage. For years I used dino oil, then tried Amsoil racing oil. Bike ran great, and with no other changes to the bike or my riding the mpg went up 6. I gained 6 mpg by simply using amsoil. I am very happy with their products. ::012::

I only ever use motorcycle specific oils, that way there are no grey (gray, US) areas and if there is clutch slippage then I know it's most probably not oil related, unless I was twat and over filled it.... ::013::
I agree. If you buy your moto specific oil at Walmart or an auto parts store the cost difference, per oil change, is extremely insignificant relative to the money we spend on our bikes, tires and riding gear.

I use Mobil 1 4T motorcycle oil (10w-40) every 4k miles

I doesn't cost one penny for an oil company to state that their oil meets JASO MA. They can self certify and state that it meets the standard. Only if they want to use the copy wrighted JASO stamp do they have to pay for the third party testing.
