Well maybe we ought to just head out for one instead, and leave them to it. :)

Been monitoring my MA3 front tire. It has signs of that weird wear pattern as shown by a couple other Tenere riders. My tire is showing the wear only on the left / clutch side. Someone mentioned that the wear might correct with more miles but it seems to be getting worse.

If it's anything like the strange wear pattern that appears on the front of the Anakee II, I've only seen it get worse once it starts. I've seen it a lot over the last 5 years.

Thanks D_D. I did not know that the MA2 had the same issue. Good to know.

I've got 4,000 miles on my set... Hard miles, both on- and off-road, and in the heat of the Texas summer at high speeds on our abrasive pavement surfaces...

And my front tire exhibits none of the odd wear pattern as shown by others. Just nice and rounded all the way from edge to edge. But note, I run the Yamaha (and Michelin) recommended 33 PSI up front (41 in the rear), not the higher pressures recommended by some here.

I still don't like the edge gripe level of the Anakee 3 rear (the edge grip seems to be fine up front), but it it does seem a bit better in that regard as I've gotten miles on them. Of course, that could be just getting used to them and unconsciously compensating for the lack of edge grip. The rear has squared off a bit, but my last couple of trips have required me to ride more slab than I normally do.

Looking at the wear rate my guess is that the rear will go about 7,000 miles, which would be an all-time high for me on the Super Tenere. That's the good news... The bad news is that the front is wearing nearly as quick as the rear (edge to edge, so it's not the 33 PSI pressure). I used to get two Metzeler Tournace EXP rear tires out of a front EXP. Doesn't look like that will be the case with the Michelin Anakee 3.

Just FYI...

I change a lot of tires for friends and members of forums from my past (SV/Buell). I always joke that I am going to implement a "non-Michelin" tire fee. Michelins are a joy to mount/demount.

I want to see what he thinks at, say, 16 miles.
There's still time for him to change his mind.

I had some extra time today, so I spooned the set I've had in my garage a week on.

Current odometer: 21.5k

PSI:
Front: 33
Rear: 42 (I'm a fatty)

Once I get some miles, I'll post up.

Just had a set of Anakee 3's fitted to my S10 :). I'd covered 5K mile on the previous K60s which looked like the front was cupping and the rear was very squared off, the new tyres have returned some control to the bike that I hadn't realised had been eroded, I can now carve turns as opposed to taking bites at them trying to get the square rear to lean. I've only covered the 12 or so miles back from the dealers but its noticeably smoother to ride than what must have been vibes from the K60s . very happy sofar just need to remember to scrub them before spanking them. Wont be going back to K60s anytime soon, not enough mud grip to cover off the on road compromises in my book.

I spooned on a set 4000 miles ago and they are doing great. I feel on reason they are so easy to change is the rims on the bike have very deep offsets so you are able to push the tire into the center much further and not have to use as much force to get the tire over the bead. My KTM that I sold has very flat rims and not recess so you really had to fight getting any tire mounted even a Michelin. Also had a ZX-14 with aftermarket rims and it was very hard to change the rear. Ended taking the wheel to a shop with a power machine and paid them $30.

OK. Got 12,000kms on my rear Anakee 3 and it still looks good for another 1000 or so. Longest lasting tire I ever had. I've tried most of them. I also am very hard on rear tires. Lots of tire spinning on gravel roads. Love the big roost. So I guess I'll be staying with them from now on. I though Anakee 2s were good. 3s are better. Traction wise, I can't tell any difference. Mind you I try to stay out of mud, sand and rain. But for all the rest, simply awesome! Thanks Michlin. ::012::

So you think they are good on gravel roads?

They do much better than one would expect. Traction decreases with wetness and loose dirt/sand/gravel. It can be done but it is no fun. Excellent tire for the road, wet or dry. 7,000 miles on my set and front is showing wear bars while the rear looks ready for another thousand. First tire I have ever experienced that on.

I don't mind them on gravel roads. It really depends exactly how you define "gravel road". If you have DEEP gravel, they aren't going to be as good as a knobby. If you have gravel over a firm dirt base, I find they are quite good actually. So far I think they are the best "off road" of any of the tires I have tried:
Battlewings
Anakee 2
Tourance (std)

I do think I am getting a bit of a wobble or vibration from my front at ~1500 miles. I plan to pull the wheel and check the balance on Friday.
