"Is it just me, or does anyone else think these windscreen adjusters (Wasp's, Touratech's and now Madstad's) are "asking for trouble" (don't want to get unnecessarily graphic) in the event of a crash of the type where you hit something and are thrown forward?"
The stock windscreen brackets appear to resemble two metal spears which could possibly gore you........ that's if you get past the shards of windscreen plastic as it shatters and cleaves open your chest and neck in a collision. There's an inherent risk to riding a motorcycle (or any motor vehicle, a bicycle or even walking down your basement stairs, for that matter).
Sorry about being graphic. I watch Ilia Kuryakyn (remember Man from U.N.C.L.E ?) cleave open a body on NCIS once in a while and nothing bothers me any more. ???
Your best defense is to pay attention and learn to make sensible decisions when you ride. No one or nothing can protect you from all hazards (including yourself). If that were possible, riding would lose it's appeal.
Honda makes an airbag Goldwing, if this sort of risk is unacceptable. I guess that would protect your face, but the rest of your body would probably be ground off on the asphalt.
I have a feeling you tend to over-think such things.
