I've had a few Firstgear jackets over the years. Good stuff IMO. Hard to beat for the price range.
I too once upon a time thought buying less expensive gear was in fact less expensive, but it isn't. As I have mentioned earlier, it only cost me $1 a month over ten years to wear my AeroSTich Jacket. That came from spending $400 new, and recently selling for $270. I don't think a Tourmaster, Fieldsheer, FirstGear, or Joe Rocket will last ten years and almost 100,000 miles of wear.

Still liking my KLIM Traverse jacket but the matching Grey pants in my size are still nil stock. Have been for months.
I went in to Touratech this morning to pick up some Zegas for my new ride. Wasn't planning on it, but I started looking at all the Klim gear. Personally, I prefer a discreet look and frankly some of the Klim gear looked a little too motocross to me. Don't know how to articulate it. Maybe a bit too technical looking? Color blocking not to my tastes. Also the branding was a bit much. Kinda like there was a giant FOX RACING logo plastered all over the gear. Just not my style.

Anyway, I was checking out the Traverse Jacket and Pants and the black ones were technical enough to be functional but simple enough to suit my style. The Traverse doesn't come with armor, but Touratech is giving away the CE armor sets with purchase. Additionally you can upgrade to D3O armor for $80 something dollars for both the jacket and pant armor. (normally $175 or so)

With the 20% deal that was just posted, I certainly didn't get the best deal buying at Touratech but for under $700 I got a really nice Gore Tex jacket and pants with D30. I'm pretty pleased.

+1 -- it took a while to learn the lesson, but it stuck. Same applies for tools. Cheap tools are disposable tools. And when it comes armor, I want gear that will increase the likelihood of making it home to my family.

Today was about 98 degrees, my badlands Pro fared well as far as not too hot. As long as moving along the ventilation works fine, a little perspiration but not uncomfortable. I am somewhat used to the extreme heat though as my occupation is in Mojave desert and I have to wear lots of crap at work. Seems the Klim does its job ventilating for as heavy a jacket it is.

As far as the ride I went on today, it was near my residence 150 miles west of where I work. Now that heat out there is BRUTAL. More measures like constant hydration and or a stacool vest might be in order but in my opinion the Klim would be fine with all vents open IF you are acclimated to extreme heat. Talking about the Blythe area. It will get 115 plus monsoonal humidity for days at a time. Obviously extreme and usually between 1 and 5 pm.

That's where it matters. I had 108 in Kansas the other day and 104 today through Nebraska. Had 104 and horrid humidity in DC.

I'm still in my BMW Rally Suit and looking forward to my new Klim Badlands soon!!!

As a side, I use all Klim base layer stuff and their gloves and socks. Very happy with everything so far.

I have nothing to compare to except for leather jackets that even with a couple of vents, it is still leather and does not breathe at all. That midwestern/eastern/southern humidity is a bear! I imagine that one would sweat their butts off anything above 90 back in those areas no matter what you are wearing, least of all 108/104 degrees! Today was dry here(at least its a dry heat right) so the Klim did well.

By the way Phil, I got lost on the fact that you are actually out there now piling up major riding time. Stay safe.

I just figured out that there is a pocket for a hydration bladder. I knew there was a way to feed the hose through the jacket, but thought the bladder must live in the pouch at the back. No hose holes there though. Turns out it's behind the back protector. Cool! Should work well with the geigerig. My only complaint would be that there's a bit of work getting to the bladder for refills. Never mind...

Yea the Klim Badlands Pro really lacks nothing does it? I am glad I bought it because I am one of those guys that always wants all the bells and whistles if the cost is not that insane. I thought that 900 plus for a jacket was crazy till I started seeing other prods for a lot more. The Latitude would have been fine for me knowing I am getting less bells and whistles but no less protection. But that dang collar was just too tall rubbing on my chin etc. Where the Badlands tapers a bit in the front. They did that one right.
