I am simply in pursuit of the tire that can actually outperform the K60 off-road, but still last 4000 miles safely.
I'll be listening very closely. Although I suspect I'll be starting a new thread today where I will be able to unveil something that will greatly increase my tire life. Maybe even close to the mileage others are reporting.

Hey Jaxon,

They do look good. And I have no reason to believe they won't be pretty good off road.
But you got me wrong if you think I "expect" much from them. :)

Far more likely they will be toast somewhere around 3K?

But I am hoping! That I'm wrong.

I also don't expect it'll do more than 2500-3000 in average. I read some reports on ADV Rider from a GS owner. I'am not sure, but i think this pic was taken after approx 1000 or something mls.

Put 243 miles on them today. All mountain twisty tarmac.
Just took a close look and a pic.

Still has the nubs!

Yea, really big change from the Karoo T I last ran.
I am surprised that this tire is a "replacement" for the traditional nobby.

I like the new modern entry, but wish the previous model was still an option.

Scorpion Rally is still there for the real stuff. I read reports from italian s10 community that 3000mls are reachable.

I've never run the Karoo T but the Karoo is my go to tire for my Death Valley trip every year. It is still available.

I view the Karoo as a bridge tire between the Karoo T and a Heidenau K60.

I think it will serve the majority of my off road excursions excepting a couple a year where the Karoo will be spooned on.

Update.

1000 miles of mostly 2-up Colorado mountain tarmac. Some gravel\dirt, but not enough to proclaim it better (or not) than the tried and true K60.

After 982 miles, I'm starting to believe this new Karoo just might make 4000?
Can it be possible?

Slight squaring, as expected. And although I haven't really pushed the tire hard with the wife onboard, we did a couple of spirited rides coming down a pass that had become familiar. Rolled it over onto the outside blocks and I never felt a complaint.

In all fairness, I gotta wait to ride solo AND some familiar off road to make any fair comparisons. But it's hard to ignore the good start I have gotten off to with them.

1K miles and you can still see the remnants of nubs on the outside of the center block. I'm very impressed. Please keep testing. ::017::

Nope, stop testing and send them to me, they are definitely wearing out too fast for you!

Dirt_Dad - I had the same observation - those little nubs are still there??? After 1k on tarmac?

Haha Snakebitten how do you ride. You have no faith in any tire?

Made it home to Texas late last night. (Albuquerque to south of Houston in one looooong non-stop run)

Anyways, now it's back to daily commute. I suspect the next 1000 miles will be harder test. Stop n go, with more aggressive solo riding.
The idea is NOT to actually try and squeeze extra life from them. I want to know their "natural" life on a typical Tenere.

But yes, the first 982 miles are encouraging. But I still wish they had started with another 1/4 inch of tread depth.

I have a set on the way this week. I can't wait. Lots of gravel roads and actual off road around here to shake them down on. I ran a 10 mile stretch of gravel in the dark last night just afer it rained enough to make the road slick. The EXPs I like so much on paved roads were something less than confidence inspiring. There's something about tucking the front on one of these big girls that makes the butt pucker.

So, I am back home and I crank her up to go back to work. :(

Anyways, most of you know by now that my driveway is about a 1/4 mile dirt-crushed concrete-hard pack. I have traveled down it 1000 times on various tires. I KNOW this short trek and its bumps and hills and potholes like the back of my hand.

The Karoo 3 was going down it for the first time.

TC2

I stand up when I ride it. I like to go fast on it.

Wow! Didn't get the wheel spin I was expecting. Instead the front end lifted. A nice dirt bike wheelie was easy.

This tire BITES. Like a knobby. This might be addicting. :)
