I have a set of K60's on order with Tabassco. I do mainly 2 lane side roads but I often like to radomly run down any gravel/dirt road I come across. This summer my S10 will send most of it's time in N. Central Pa. 1000's of miles of dirt township roads and forest service roads. Lots of 2 lane in between. That's why I'm going to give the K60 a try. My Stock stones only have about 3000 miles on them, so I will set them aside in the garage. I find they are not a great tire on loose gravel esp. when you throw in some wet conditions. I hope the vibe thing is only temporary until them wear in?

Hmmm, I expect a more aggressive tire to vibrate, and some are startled by it. Has Wasp read this yet? What are the TKC 80s like on a Tenere? I have a friend that runs them on his GS... only when he plans extensive off road riding. Otherwise it's Tourances. The TKCs vibrate all the time, 0-100mph, mile one to the dumpster.

To all with K60's.....

I have ZERO vibrations from 0- 100 The only vibe I ever get is from 20-0 Mph. I balance the wheels and run 38F - 40R...

********* For people that are not aware. Make sure you carefully look at the rotation direction of the front tire. It would look to go the 'correct' way but in fact that is the wrong direction. It does have a direction arrow on both tires. Only the front looks to go the wrong way.... Double check the direction arrow. Ive read tire reports from people that have installed the front backwards, the front will vibrate much more and wear and cup funny... As they wear funny the vibe gets much worst... So make sure the front is installed correctly... ::008:: ****************

Fitted the Shinko 705 non-radial. I now have a strange shimmer through the seat & footpegs at around 40 kph. Almost as if brake pads are chattering. Anyone else?
FWIW - There is a thread on ADVrider about the Shinkos and some guys with big bikes (R1200 GS & GSA) have had issues. (Tread blocks coming off). Seems maybe the tires weren't designed with big bike weight in mind. YMMV.

I found the photos of the K60 tires and found the 150 rear to be the only tire with a continuous smooth center patch. All the other tires have a a broken center patch.

When speaking of vibration one might mention whether it is in the handlebars or the seat or both.

looking forward to using the K60 for the June-July trip to Canada Alaska and the long way home.

How many miles on the new tires?

Are you sure the balance job is ok? (some shops don't automatically balance tires, just mount them, unless you specify and pay extra)

Have you verified that the wheels were installed correctly? I.E. pads in right, one on each side of the rotor, rear caliper spacer washer in the right spot, nothing loose, etc.

Have you checked to see if the tires are radially out of true? (Spin the wheel and see if the tire is going up and down)

If everything seems to be fine and the tires are still quite new, odds are it will smooth out after a few hundred miles or less as the tire wears in.
EricV, thanks for all the suggestions.
This problem appeared immediately from new. BTW only the rear installed so far.
I fitted the tyre myself. Not balanced but I will do so.
The rear caliper spacer washer I will check but it looks like it will only go one way. The pads are ok and radially true.
This is a really worrying feeling. As I stated it is only at slow speed around 40kph. It feels like a mechanical vibration similar to a brake pad chattering on the disc and is felt thru the seat also. It's a bit like the vibration from a big block knobby tyre but a much higher frequency. I have been racking my brain but will have to disassemble everything again to check. ::010::

I like the Shinkos, but just don't be too hard on them...

At the dealership, I spent an hour trying to decide,,,, Shinko's vs K-60's. The Shinko's won out for 4 reasons
1 = Radial design
2 = More road oriented (but still an Adv type tyre)
3 = The vibes/noise of the K-60's
4 = Good reviews on other forums

I'll be able to give a good comparison in about 2200 miles.

Peace-Out

WantaJustride, keep us informed on the wear of the Shinko 705's.
Here is an update HoebSTer,

I am at 2200 miles on the 705's. Rear looks about 1/2 gone. Front is wearing better. 90% asphalt commuting, 10% dirt/gravel. I don't know if I'll buy them again.
They do feel/handle well for my riding style though.

Some feedback on the Shinko 705 rear bias ply vibration. Well the vibe is the same except when I lowered the pressure for off road. Back on the tar with low pressure and no vibe. So it seems the vibe is from the tread. Remember, this is a bias ply not the radial so expect the stiffer construction is the culprit. Everything else checks out OK & it's not bad just a little strange accelerating and decelerating through around 45kph. I'm really happy with both off road and tar. The tar traction in the wet is very good and in sport, is difficult to get the TCS light on. Wear also seems very good. Haven't fitted the matching front yet. Still with OEM. ::013::
