Just had a pair of K60 Scouts fitted to my S10, the oem Tourance EXPs had survided to 3390 miles and the rear was just about done , very square and probably had about couple of hundred miles at most left.
1st ride out on the K60s was a bit nervy on tarmac as the release agent needs to clear but was quite suprised by the extra vibes these seem to have brought to the party. It clears a bit once at reasonable speed but slower (30mph or less) it seems to vibrate but mostly from the rear especially on closed throttle . Not noticed this type of vibe as much on previous bikes when fitting knobs (last was T63s on a Xt660z) .
Anyone esle just felt this when swapping thier S10 to more off road biased rubber?

I only fitted the rear, but yeah, it is very shaky/vibey at 21 mph, but will go away after about 1500 miles. The space between the big lugs is causing it, and when it wears down enough to bridge that gap it will quit.

Cheers for that info Tiger1. Last time my faded memory can remember anything quite so vibey was when I ran AC10s on my old ktm640le , I think the rear shaft must transfer rubber induced vibes more "efficently" than a chain drive into the bike .

Just fitted my set this morning. Makes the Beast KNARLY looking indeed!

I get the "mud tire" vibration between 16 and 28mph. Very noticable on deceleration. Can even feel it in brake lever and pedal in that same range of speed. Below or above it quickly dissipates.

By the way, I like it! 8)

So to test the performance in dirt I simply left the TC set to 1 when I entered my long gravel drive coming home tonight. With the EXP's, I know exactly how fast it will accelerate down this road. Theory would be that if these tires get more bite, the TC should allow quicker accel. Right?

Sweeeeeeet. She hooks up SO much more with these paws. THIS is what this thing is supposed to feel like off the tarmac! Nice bite!

Folks ask how much am I on dirt vs paved? I ask why? They say if you are 80-20 pave/dirt, why put dirt tires on? I say even if I am only off road 5%, That 5% is my dream come true time. These babies are about 50/50?

Again, I like.

I have about 9k on my K60s now and the back is getting close to done. Yep, the tires are more vibey, but will smooth out a bit after you get a little wear. Still noticeable at the <20 mph speeds and over 80 the mirrors are shaking some, but as Snakbitten said, it's worth it for the off pavement riding performance. At least for me. I'll try to remember to take a pic tomorrow of the tires and post it with the exact mileage. Been riding more pavement than I would like, but it's like that some times.

Wow - 9K! I may have to re-think these as an opion for the Whitehorse run next year! With that mileage, they are a definate contender.

::026:: Last type tires I will be buying for an ADV bike.... I have over 2000 miles on them now with some aggressive desert riding and they still look almost new... ::26:: ::008::

The beauty of a bias ply tire. I have been very happy with the traction, wet or dry, in serious leans with these tires. Not as aggressive as a TKC-80, but lasts a heck of a lot longer! And surprisingly decent on the slab. If I was doing nearly all slab, I's still probably go with Conti-Trails, which will also do an honest 10k, but if you want the extra traction and mud digging, the Heidenaus rock. For Alaska next year, it's K60s for sure.

I put some hard hiway miles on mine plus some great riding in Torrey, Utah including sweeper madness, and hiway 12 and burr trail all the way to the end, then about 300 miles in the rocks and ruts in Salida, Co area. That tire worked in all of those conditions, track like handling on the twisties for me. Course I am a bit conservative some would say.

3500 miles and I pulled it off when I got home to finish off my EXP rear. It did square some from all the hiway, but I expect at least 3000 or more miles out it.

Pics of K60 Scouts with 9k miles on them. Not enough dirt or twisties, so perhaps worst case use in regards to roads and dirt/pavement mix. Maybe 1k of dirt, the rest pavement, mostly slab. (had to go places)
Rear

Front

I'll probably get another 1k of local riding on the rear, the front has a lot left on it.

edit: I should add that I'm a smooth rider and typically not hard on tires. For the FJR, I usually saw 6-10k from rear tires. Usually on the high end, except for Avon Storms, which were 6k. I personally won't buy tires that wear out in 3-4k. I just don't have the money to buy tires every few trips or 10 times a year. YMMV.

i hear they can hold up for the miles, i just hope they can handle the Seattle rainy monsoon season. Some reports don't favor this. I will have these mounted in a few weeks when I get the Recall done.

It's called taking it easier in the rain, Hobster. You are a fellow Washingtonian...we are are one with the rain 8)....and with the S10's nanny-mode traction control and ABS, the only worry is not being overly aggressive in the corners. ::008::

I hear you Tremor on the rain thing. Is it normal with these tires to have a vibration feeling when almost to a complete stop? Feels almost like riding on cobblestones?
Other than that they feel stiffer, fall into a corner waaaaaaay to easy!!!

Unfortunately, I think that's a 'fringe benefit' of that type of tyre (the vibes). Haha, they do fall into corners quickly...great off road, but suppose not so much so on pavement. I'm going with brand new set when I visit Hokkaido this summer.

:) ::026:: on the vibes. When I got them put on I rode away and stopped about 5miles away to recheck all the bolts & brakes. Thought something was falling off :)). Now have about 5k on them 80/20 tarmack/dirt, still have same vib at 10k or less but they work awesome & look like new still!!

Had the Heidenau K-60's on my Wee. Same issues as others have described. The tires wear like iron, but I noticed a lot of road noise at speeds 15-40 mph. So when I bought my new S-10 I threw on a set of Shinko 705 radials. Pretty happy so far too early to tell about the mileage but the ride is nice on the pavement.

The tire guy at my local shop told me to run the tire at max pressure indicated on the sidewall when on the street and check them frequently.

At the dealership, I spent an hour trying to decide,,,, Shinko's vs K-60's. The Shinko's won out for 4 reasons
1 = Radial design
2 = More road oriented (but still an Adv type tyre)
3 = The vibes/noise of the K-60's
4 = Good reviews on other forums

I'll be able to give a good comparison in about 2200 miles.

Fitted the Shinko 705 non-radial. I now have a strange shimmer through the seat & footpegs at around 40 kph. Almost as if brake pads are chattering. Anyone else?

How many miles on the new tires?

Are you sure the balance job is ok? (some shops don't automatically balance tires, just mount them, unless you specify and pay extra)

Have you verified that the wheels were installed correctly? I.E. pads in right, one on each side of the rotor, rear caliper spacer washer in the right spot, nothing loose, etc.

Have you checked to see if the tires are radially out of true? (Spin the wheel and see if the tire is going up and down)

If everything seems to be fine and the tires are still quite new, odds are it will smooth out after a few hundred miles or less as the tire wears in.
